1. So today I filled out my first insurance claim form today! Filled in all the blanks and printed it out and mailed it in and everything! And then, and then, I made dinner. It was stir-fry. I cut up the vegetables and the chicken even though I'd never handled meat before, and then I cooked rice and fried the vegetables and meat and it was delicious! I AM SUCH AN ADULT UP IN HERE. :D

Tomorrow? I'm gonna wake up early, and I'm gonna go get my work clothes tailored, and then I'm gonna send out more job applications, and then I'm gonna run some errands, and it's all gonna be AWESOME.

Actual Real Conversation while preparing dinner:

Muppet: Have you ever looked at raw meat and thought that that's what we look like inside?
Mom: ...you're so gross, honey.

2. In less mature news: I drew a thing for the first time in a while! It started out as another sketch of girl!human!Bulkhead but I can't seem to draw people who are bigger than a size 16 so I don't really know how that's going to work. But I like her face so she's going up here. Maybe I'll finally re-download GIMP and color her.

I don't know what she's looking at. )

3. And a random bit of cuteness: Paige O'Hara and Robby Benson, the voice actors of Belle and the Beast in Beauty and the Beast, head down to Disney World for the commemorative re-release of the BatB DVD/Blu-Ray. Or something like that, I don't really know because I still have it on VHS and that's all I need until they stop making VHS players, but it did allow me to see this picture:

Back here. )

Is it bad if I still think Robby Benson's cute?

4. I haven't followed CSI faithfully for a while, but next week's episode looks to be the best thing on TV ever. At least, if the trailers are right and someone really is killing people with a mechanical dinosaur.

5. Dream log nonsense; seriously, like watchdog groups are even watching Rizzoli & Isles. )

At some point I'd like to make a post of all the fanart I've bookmarked so I can share it around. Maybe a fic rec post too. It'll be my splash of childishness once I'm done being an adult for the day.

I should go to bed so I can get up early and be an Adult tomorrow. Good night, flist.

So I'm sure I'm the last person to know about this because I'm slow like that, but some of the character designs for Transformers: Prime have been released, along with test footage.

And honestly I am probably being way too hopeful right now, but can I tell you how excited I am not only that Arcee is prominently featured in this picture (thus leading me to think that she'll actually do something in the show and/or be important), but she's blue. Now, don't get me wrong, I have nothing against pink or pink designs, but the thing about making the girl robots pink is that it makes so much of their design about their gender, and thus so much of their personality about their gender - like in the G1 series, where with few exceptions Arcee's role and personality was basically "the girl one". I'm hoping that by making her blue, the design team is thinking about her more as a character and what she would look like in context of the series, rather than "she looks this way because she's a girl".

BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY. The list of voice actors has also been released, but without much word (save for previous confirmations, i.e. Peter Cullen playing Optimus) on who would actually play whom. But the one lady on that list, and thus logically the one playing Arcee (since the human girl's voice actor has already been announced)? Gina. Freaking. Torres. DO YOU UNDERSTAND HOW COOL THIS IS. GINA TORRES. ZOE WASHBURN. AS ARCEE.

eeeeeeeee I hope she is awesome. :D

A couple of other things:

1. Lockdown is going to be written into the IDW series! Not surprising, really, since of all the Animated characters he seems like the fan-favorite choice for a crossover, but what I really want to know is, in the more adult-oriented IDW series, how much creepier and more disturbingly-overtoned the writers are going to make Lockdown, given how uncomfortable he already was. And given that he's on the cover with another slim Japan-influenced character, I also anticipate slash fic aplenty.

2. I have finally plucked up the nerve to ask the folks at the local Toys'R'Us whether they had an Arcee in stock; apparently they're getting a shipment in soon and are setting aside one for me! The wiki tells me that Arcee is prone to getting bought up by collectors and scalpers really fast, so despite feeling a bit guilty over spending money on plastic robots I'm still glad I asked. Next guilty purchase: AllSpark Almanac Volume 2!

And this window has been open for hours, so I should stop. I did get two whole pages written today, though! It was fantastic. :D

I have seen "The Beast Below", but as I lack the brain-space at the moment to talk cogently or intelligently about it here is my spoilerless review:

...I may have gotten teary. A little bit. Maybe. Consciously, I know the episode had flaws, but Who is doing that shiny thing again where it's so enjoyable I don't notice any plot holes or oddness until I read other people's more thoughtful reactions, and I kind of like when it does that shiny thing.

Also, AMY. :D How much do I love you, Amy.

---

Also I bought comic books today! It's a bit addictive, really. I was going to go in and try to find something featuring the Rogues from Flash, but all the back-issued comics are shrink-wrapped and thus I could not check to see if any of the Flash issues had the two Rogues in particular I was interested in (the Pied Piper and the Trickster). So, instead, I grabbed an issue of Birds of Prey with an entertaining cover. And then the one immediately preceding it, because it turns out back DC issues were buy-one-get-one-free and it also had a cover with Oracle looking badass, I figured that's a good sign, right?

Because I truly need another huge, sprawling universe to immerse myself in, especially one as convoluted and laid over with overlapping retcons as the DCU. Bleh.

Also I bought a collection of IDW Transformers Spotlight comics, specifically the Blaster, Mirage, Grimlock, Wheelie, and Arcee Spotlights, because that's three that I think I'll like based on their Wiki descriptions, one I don't know anything about, and one that predictably make me grumble dark things in Simon Furman's direction but at least has really pretty art to make up for it. All in all a good day, comics-wise.

Hum diddly. Not really feeling the writing urge despite having lots of ideas, and am sort of okay with that. Mostly I'm just tired and sluggish and not in the mood to do much.

Behind the cut is flaily liveblogging with even more capslock. )

So. In conclusion, it am so so happy about this show again and it is so nice. And I’m tempted to just write AMY AMY AMY AMY throughout the whole episode review but I need to save space for Eleven and Rory and the fact that I can hear people talk and and I want to watch the next episode right now but I must go to bed and I still did not get any laundry done tonight, see Who look what you did.

So it's been announced that a) a new animated Transformers series is in development (which gives me a fresh pang of sadness that there is no more Animated, but the franchise marches on), b) it'll air on Discovery Kids (which is...puzzling, given that Transformers is about as far from actual science as you can get, but then regular Discovery Channel airs Mythbusters and that is much less interested in science than it is in blowing stuff up, so fair's fair), c) it'll be called Transformers: Prime, and d) Jeffrey freaking Combs will be providing the voice of Ratchet.

That sound you hear is my Re-Animator and JLU-era Question fangirl squee. eeeeeeeee.

I'm excited as to what this means for how Ratchet will be played - given Combs' other roles (and his smooth, quieter delivery) I have a feeling this Ratchet will be more in the vein of G1!Ratchet, who was more laid-back and irreverent, rather than TFA!Ratchet (who is...basically fanon!G1!Ratchet, interestingly; fanon is odd that way). Either way, I'm looking forward to the promos and teasers so I can know more about the new series.

But what really amused me was reading the comments in the article announcing Combs, and how a good third of the comments were (of course) already declaring the new series and indeed the franchise Ruined FOREVER based on (take your pick) the fact that the series is airing on a cable channel, the series' name (no joke), or the fact that the series will in fact be aimed at children. Because apparently we have again missed the memo that the Transformers franchise exists to sell toys to children, whether adults collect them or not. (Interestingly enough, I saw few cries of Ruined FOREVER based on Combs' casting. A few raised eyebrows, but little actual disapproval.)

I was already giggling a bit at this rare opportunity to watch one of TF fandom's famous tantrums in real time, but then I realized that this all sounded eerily familiar. In fact, it sounded eerily familiar because just yesterday Doctor Who fandom was throwing much the same strop over one of the announced writers for Season 5 (or is it 6?), declaring that New Who and indeed the franchise were Ruined FOREVER because a writer they didn't like had signed on. Many of the angry comments sounded almost exactly the same.

And then I really did laugh out loud. Oh, fandom. Your absurdities never cease to amuse, except when they do and I kind of want to slap you.

Final point: I am only moderately ashamed that, once I heard there was a new TF series being produced, one of my first thoughts was "maybe this time there will be girl robots who do things oh please please please let this one have girl robots who do things please I don't think that's a lot to ask and while I'm here can I have a pony." A GIRL CAN DREAM, OKAY.
