I HAVE FINALLY SEEN "THE BIG BANG".

IT IS EVERYTHING I HAVE EVER WANTED IN A SEASON FINALE AND EVERYTHING I NEVER KNEW I WANTED AND OMG OMG HOW HAS SEASON 5 MADE ME THIS HAPPY.

I mean, just - AMY. RORY (oh god Rory. ;__:) ELEVENTY. RIVER I HAVE COME AROUND ON RIVER. WEE BITSY AMELIA. A story about stories, and storytelling, and the series itself in a way, and memories, and using time travel in an inventive and strange and marvelous way and setting up series 6 omg omg I want to know what happens in Series 6 RIGHT NOW.

*hyperventilates a bit*

So, yeah, I liked it kind of a lot.

Also if you have seen The Big Bang you must go read this post-ep RIGHT NOW, because it is lovely and wonderful and odds are it will make you cry. WELL GO ON THEN, I DIDN'T PUT THE LINK THERE SO YOU COULD JUST SIT THERE AND NOT CLICK ON IT.

I like that this finale has made everybody appreciate River. I mean, obviously I have not seen it, but I have always wanted to like her more than I did, so the news makes me glad.

She is really freaking cool in this finale. Without giving away too much, she shoots a Dalek in the face. And it works. :D

I'm just glad that she's doing things on her own now; I feel like she was more a device than a character in her debut episodes, and we got a lot of explanation of how cool she was without her really doing much. And now Series 5 has rectified that!

Also she has much better hair in Season 5, I will say that. ;)

IT WAS. I think it was the first time I honestly didn't dislike anything about a season finale, whether on a story-structure level or on a personal, how-could-you-do-that-to-Donna level. And the thing is I've already read a whole bunch of criticism of the finale, and I don't even care. Even with all the points people raise I love it anyway.

Isn't it? It's such a perfect complement to the finale; it's pretty much part of my canon. And

calapine is a fantastic author and I've been waiting to read that fic for ages, so I'm glad it was so satisfying.

I LOVE THAT I FINALLY HAVE CONTEXT FOR THE FEZ. I had seen it in icons and things and heard "fezzes are cool", but I didn't know where it'd come in, and I was so delighted that even in the middle of a universe-ending crisis the Doctor still finds time to wear a silly hat, because that is just so The Doctor. Smith is really surprising and pleasing me as Eleven, considering that I had my doubts before. His monologue to sleeping Amelia was brilliant.

And YES the "something old, something new" made me cheer. I love it when characters and bits of the show are mythologized, or remembered as stories, or even tied to existing aphorisms like they were here. It was really quite brilliant.

Also I love that we're apparently calling this one Series Fnarg. Where did that start? I don't have a Team TARDIS icon as of yet, but maybe check the Dailies? I'm sure there's at least a few icons iwht all three.

AFAIK the "Series Fnarg" thing was started by Steven Moffat. There was that whole weird thing where the BBC couldn't make up their minds about the series numbering - Series 5, Series 31, Series 1 all over again (why??) - so the Moff finally just said "Why don't we call it Series Fnarg?" and it caught on. I'm seeing the next one called Fnarg+1 now, in some places.

I do remember the whole to-do about the new season's name, but hah, that's one way to resolve it.

I kind of want a shirt that says Fnarg+1 now.

OH GOD I KNOW RIGHT D: D: I JUST - *FLAILS*. A DW finale that is not super depressing?? That is, in fact, wonderful and full of love and awesome times to come? FUCK YES.

EXACTLY. I mean, yeah, I get drama, but it got to the point where I wouldn't even watch Journey's End when it aired because I just knew something awful was going to happen and it'd make me upset and angry whether for meta reasons or just because I didn't want whichever character to leave. And this time it was hopeful and happy and yeah, a little bit magic, but it was satisfying magic so I didn't care. IT IS SO NICE TO BE HAPPY AT THE END OF THE SEASON FOR ONCE.

Hey, don't look at me, all my Who icons are from characters who've been off the show for a minimum of thirty years.

On the tiny off-chance that you haven't already seen it, the BBC released a whole album of Amy & Rory wedding pictures, and they are FREAKING GLORIOUS.

I'd seen icons with the wedding photos, but I'd never seen the source, so thank you for pointing them out to me because they're amazing. they're so fun and sweet and sexy and MY OT3 IS BASICALLY CANON, NO ONE WILL PERSUADE ME OTHERWISE.

Eleventy will be available on DVD in the USA in November, so I'll see him then. I'm looking forward to it.
