I have seen "The Beast Below", but as I lack the brain-space at the moment to talk cogently or intelligently about it here is my spoilerless review:

...I may have gotten teary. A little bit. Maybe. Consciously, I know the episode had flaws, but Who is doing that shiny thing again where it's so enjoyable I don't notice any plot holes or oddness until I read other people's more thoughtful reactions, and I kind of like when it does that shiny thing.

Also, AMY. :D How much do I love you, Amy.

---

Also I bought comic books today! It's a bit addictive, really. I was going to go in and try to find something featuring the Rogues from Flash, but all the back-issued comics are shrink-wrapped and thus I could not check to see if any of the Flash issues had the two Rogues in particular I was interested in (the Pied Piper and the Trickster). So, instead, I grabbed an issue of Birds of Prey with an entertaining cover. And then the one immediately preceding it, because it turns out back DC issues were buy-one-get-one-free and it also had a cover with Oracle looking badass, I figured that's a good sign, right?

Because I truly need another huge, sprawling universe to immerse myself in, especially one as convoluted and laid over with overlapping retcons as the DCU. Bleh.

Also I bought a collection of IDW Transformers Spotlight comics, specifically the Blaster, Mirage, Grimlock, Wheelie, and Arcee Spotlights, because that's three that I think I'll like based on their Wiki descriptions, one I don't know anything about, and one that predictably make me grumble dark things in Simon Furman's direction but at least has really pretty art to make up for it. All in all a good day, comics-wise.

Hum diddly. Not really feeling the writing urge despite having lots of ideas, and am sort of okay with that. Mostly I'm just tired and sluggish and not in the mood to do much.

That shiny over the plotholes thing might be a reaction I generally have to Doctor Who. I dunno if that's good or bad, but whatever. It's working especially strongly now. XD

Weirdly enough, my favorite Amy moment in this one was probably when the computer told her she was over a thousand and her delighted gasp and "Shut up!" whisper. It was just so real and precious. And then, you know, there was also her awesomeness. I'm loving this little actress.

It's generally my default status as well - I knew I was in trouble towards the end of Season 4 and the interstitial season when I could spot the plot holes as I was actually watching and the shiny had worn off. And now it's back, and all's right with the world. :D

I love that moment - like you said, it's so real, and it makes the shock and the newness and the wonder of it all just so palpable. Although I think the moment where we find out she has a hairpin hidden in her nightie and "Just because something's not allowed, you don't do it?". That was the moment where I just nodded and went "yes, you are really rather wonderful".

THIS. YES.

This is exactly my reaction, too. I knew the episode had some flaws, but it was enjoyable and shiny and, yeah, I definitely got a bit teary-eyed myself.

It's just...I am so glad to be happy about this show. And the bit at the end! The plot may not have been perfect, but it hit the right emotional chord, and that counts for a lot. :D

Ooooh, kinda jealous, I'd love to own some TF comics in print... I'd say those were good choices, too, since I remember all of those being quite good. Mirage's Spotlight was awesome (though I am quite possibly biased since I really like Mirage) and Arcee's was, well, at least one of the better parts of the Revelation arc... (Don't get me started on Spotlight: Sideswipe. Gah.)

I will try to filch Roommate's scanner for...certain purposes. :D And I was quite pleasantly surprised with the Spotlights - Wheelie's was surprisingly good, but then I haven't seen enough of him to dislike him, and the Mirage Spotlight was just beautifully drawn and colored. I have a feeling I'd like the Grimlock one a lot more if I actually knew about the Devastation plotline, but I...am actually not all that fussed about the IDW-verse and just like enjoying the stories as standalones or AUs. And most of them work quite well that way, which is why I have a feeling I would not enjoy Spotlight: Sideswipe all that much.
