Since there are quite a lot of new people on my flist as of this morning (*waves*), I figured now would be a good time to post a little “about-me” entry, especially since things have changed a bit since I last did one of those.
So! Friends and neighbors, now's our chance to get to know each other. Tell me a bit about you, even if you've been on my flist since forever. Or point me to an introduction post, if you've got one.

Call me Muppet, Stunt, or whatever other internet handle you care to; the one thing I’m really paranoid about is using my real name and location on the internet, though I’m less uptight about it in locked posts.
I’m 19 and a college undergraduate in the U.S. of A. While I haven’t declared my major yet, I’m almost certain that I’m going to double-major in Biology and English when I do declare, and I’m hoping to go into science writing/technical writing as a career after that. However, I love simply learning things, and as such I tend to geek out about everything from psychology and neuroscience to history to film criticism to modern art (I’m a Minimalist fangirl; Dan Flavin and Donald Judd are my rock stars) to whatever I found trawling Wikipedia that afternoon.
I love reading, and tend to read any printed material put in front of me, be it the nutrition facts on a cereal box or the ‘Ra-Re’ volume of the nearest encyclopedia. I’ve developed the terrible habit of reading over the shoulder of the person sitting next to me on the bus or subway; I’ve actually picked out several of my favorite books this way. I love fantasy, science fiction, crime fiction, and mysteries, and I count Terry Pratchett, Agatha Christie, Ray Bradbury, and James Joyce as my favorite authors at the moment. I’m currently reading The Yiddish Policeman’s Union, by Michael Chabon, and enjoying it immensely; next on the list is probably The Beekeeper’s Apprentice.
My taste in music is also diverse; I’ve recently become fond of the many subgenres of electronic music, but they share time on my playlist with rock, classical, some pop, whatever falls under the umbrella of ‘world music’, and Bollywood soundtracks. Same with movies; the only two genres I’ve really no love for are chick flicks and horror movies (too sarcastic for the former and too wimpy for the latter), and I can even be tempted by those on occasion. I do, however, adore Mystery Science Theater 3000, so that should tell you something about my taste in film.
Regarding fandom: At the moment, I’m still in the squeeful New Fandom Discovery stage of Doctor Who, especially the Classic series; I’ve actually been sort-of into it since 2005, when the new series started, but it wasn’t until about 2006 that I figured I should start delving into the forty years’ worth of backlogged canon, and promptly became obsessed. I squee and flail over the old series the way most people squee over the new one, and I’m prone to lengthy meta posts on serials I’ve watched, containing thoughts, theories, ficbunnies, and miscellaneous fangirlism. There’s one on The Mind of Evil right below this entry; aside from being unusually long, it’s a pretty good example of what I’m talking about.
I like both Old School and New School Who; I like both Martha and Rose (slight preference to Martha) but hate the psychotic fen who tend to come with them (jury’s out on Donna); and while I like him enough as a character I do not think Captain Jack Harkness is The Best Thing Ever To Happen To Television. Criticism, complaints, comparisons, and affectionate “oh-criminy-not-this-again” moaning about New Who may show up here; bashing and shipwars will not.
Aside from Doctor Who, I’m also still quite active in my U.S. crime drama fandoms; this basically encompasses the CSI franchise, the Law and Order franchise, NCIS, and Numb3rs. I haven’t posted as much about them lately, what with the writers’ strike, but I should blather about them more once they start up again. However, unlike my Who meta, I tend to just post quick thoughts about a particular episode of my crime dramas, and only meta extensively if something really strikes me about the episode. Because pages and pages of meta about eight or nine programs per week takes too long, that’s why. I also adore Monk, Psych, Eureka and Chuck, but I don’t post about them often and I’m not in the fandom. I’m starting to hesitantly nudge my way into the Horatio Hornblower fandom as well, and am finding it surprisingly sane.
I tend to cling to my old fandoms; I still consider myself a Resident Evil and Final Fantasy X fan, even though I don’t really write fic for them and the fandoms seem to have dropped dead. However, my tragic lack of game consoles here in dormitory-land mean that I’ve sort of fallen behind on the video-game scene, and, while I still love video games, I don’t post about them or squee about them as much.
Aside from meta, I also write fic. Or rather, I write about writing fic, since I tend to get ideas that I’ll never end up writing or finishing but I love talking about. Out of my crime dramas, I tend to write about CSI: Miami the most, since I am determined to stay with this fandom no matter how many times the show does flying naked backflips over the proverbial shark. Next up are probably CSI: Las Vegas and Law and Order: SVU (currently in the same but-I-loved-you-why-are-you-sucking category as Miami); the rest are fangirled more than written about, although once I become better acquainted with Numb3rs and NCIS I’ll probably start writing about them more. While I write Doctor Who fic, I am still finding my feet as far as the canon and the characters’ voices are concerned, so I don’t post much of it.
I slash; I femmeslash; I het; I gen. I have ships that I like writing better than others but am an omnishipper by inclination, and will read and accept almost any ship if the writer can make me believe it. I tend to write het more often because it’s easier, but my writing is predominantly gen, and I am always on the lookout for good gen!fic. I lean slightly toward the lighter end of the spectrum in my reading preferences (i.e. would rather read humor than dark!fic, most of the time), but I’ll read just about anything if it’s good, and some of my favorite fics have been the unremittingly bleak ones. I love good crack!fic, unlikely pairings, crossovers that work, and anything unexpected in fic. The one exception: despite the occasionally ribald sense of humor on display in the meta posts, I don’t like porn. I get nothing from reading it, and while I’m trying to work through my shyness by writing it, it’s not going too well. (I will, however, read plotty NC-17 fic, though there may be quick scrolling involved.)
I am, unfortunately, not all that great about reviewing, as I feel sort of lame leaving a simple “I loved it!” comment but frequently find myself with nothing else to say. I’m trying to get better about that, though.
As far as posting goes, I post a lot of fandom stuff, fic and meta and the like; I also post about real-life goings-on (those posts may or may not be locked), interesting things that have happened to me, random thoughts and opinions, my beadwork, memes, and occasional frustrated vents that I generally lock or delete thereafter. But, no matter what I’m posting about, I love to chat, so feel free to strike up a conversation in the comments if you’ve anything to say!

Heh, I know what you mean. More than once I've looked up and realized I've just spent two to three hours doing nothing but wandering around wikis. It's a bit sad, really. :D

ive nvr heard of horatio hornblower tho is it good? im' always loking for new fandoms lol b/c i get bored w/ just 1 all teh tiem! i liek ur fic but i wish u wrote more nc17 b/c it is sooooo hot. i bet u would be really good at it!! u shuld try!!!

You sound like you're kind of in a hurry as you type this post; it might be a good idea to post and reply using proper grammar and spelling rather than IM chatspeak. I'm not criticizing, just suggesting that you will come across as a more serious and thoughtful poster if your comments are spelt correctly and you take the time to check your grammar.

In my case, I've discovered Who in 2000 when I began watching it on our BBC cable channel. It was already halfway and it took a while before I managed to get into it. The first thing I ever saw was a bit of Castrovalva, and my first complete serial was Arc of Infinity, so Five was my first Doctor, and with Colin Baker appearing in AoI it means I got a bonus Doctor on my first story (I remember thinking Colin looked sexy in his uniform; if only I knew what was to come :P).

And yeah, Gallifreyan fashion is not very appealing, but Colin seemed less like a fish out of water in his uniform than the others. Of course, he wasn't on the High Council and therefore didn't have to wear those hats. :P

I'm a very new fan of Doctor Who, both new and old and so I've just recently started exploring it. (Even though, right now I'm a bit stuck with Two. Haha..) I do think Jack Harkness is, in fact, a very good thing to happen to television, but nah.. surely not a divine presence as such.
And I'm getting into Hornblover too. I actually rather adore the ships. (The real ones, I mean. With sail. ;)
I believe I pretty much share your curiosity towards various interests and also, you opinions on several things. (Hah! For example that about movies: I couldn't/shouldn't really watch a 'romantic' film unless I can't find it just deeply pessimistic in nature and therefor tolerate it, and simply don't get horror films: why's feeling uncomfortable or disgusted a good thing..)
We also seem to have similar views on fanfiction when it comes to shipping, gen!fic and.. *sigh* porn. (There are very few real porn!fics that I've ever liked; it just has to work on some other level than mere physical description, be it characterization, plot, concept, or whatever. Otherwise it often tends to get either cheap or plain naive, unfortunately.)

Oh, don't get me wrong; I do like Jack, though I like him better in Doctor Who than in Torchwood. I just don't really get the fangirl worship he tends to be the object of.
