I just managed to have a dream that involved Inception and TFA, how about that.

There was something about how me and this other girl had to make Saito dream so we could go to Spain in his dream, and once we were there I wanted to go to the Prado but she wanted to play around with dream physics because we were floating for some reason. And there was also this samurai person who I think was guarding him but was also guarding this sword with a handle and sheath that were so bright and shiny red that it looked like chrome, plus there was no hand guard so when the sword was sheathed it looked just like a curved beam of red chrome. And I think...I think the samurai had to give it to whoever he was involved with at the time, and someone used it to either defeat him in combat or do something wrong, so he had to commit sepukku with a black sword that looked exactly the same save for the color.

And then it rapidly switched to TFA, where it was some sort of series finale, with long CGI views of Cybertron. And some big disaster had just happened, and there was a voiceover of a conversation from the end of Beast Machines between Cheetor and Botanica about the "heart of Cybertron" and how that was the real key to reformatting the world, or something. Except, obviously, no such conversation ever took place in the actual series, and Cheetor sounded like Optimus Primal for some reason, and I've never even heard Botanica's voice so I have no idea where hers came from. And then the planet split off into four different parts, a central torus and three satellites along a perpendicular axis with the torus, both spherical and wedge-shaped, that hovered outside the torus, and that was apparently the shape it was meant to be from the beginning. Oh, and this all had something to do with the samurai, like they had to complete the planetary transformation before the samurai finished killing himself or something.

And the whole time TFA!Bumblebee was looking after Sari because...idk, she might have been dead or something. But the planetary transformation was like a giant reset button for Earth, and when she woke up she didn't recognize or remember Bumblebee. So instead he took an altmode as a yellow iPod so he could be with her all the time and yammer in her ear about all their adventures. And despite not remembering him Sari didn't seem to think this was weird at all.

And then I went over to TFWiki to look up the episode and I found out that everyone hated it because they thought it was a big pile of fanwank and especially hated that Sari had effectively gotten her memory wiped. Parallels to Journey's End are unsettling.

You know, that was one of the minor quibbles I had with Inception; the dreams were way too normal until the gravity started going wrong. I get that they were supposed to be purposefully constructed, and there was some manipulation of impossible physics and illusion, and I think overall Nolan did a fairly good job of making them a bit surreal and establishing why they weren't more so, but overall most of them just seemed to make way too much sense for a dream. I kind of wanted to see, I don't know, a line of can-can-dancing hippos in the middle of the highway chase or something.

I'm on my way out the door and I haven't seen Inception so I can't really comment on that bit, but:

I want this fic. It would be so lovely and sad and completely fitting. JUST SAYIN'.

I woke up realizing that this meant I *subconsciously* shipped Sari/Bee. Which is a little sad, really. I think I need a life.

I would totally write it if there were any way for that to make sense. There'd have to be a whole story in there about why her memory was gone and I really don't know what I'd do about that. But now I want to. :D

It's cool, I do too :\ Not in a pervy way so much, but in more of a, hey if she can live to be a few thousand years old, it wouldn't be THAT creepy! XD;

Omgggg you may have just damned yourself. Whenever I come across an idea and think "well how does THAT work?" my brain goes "well, let's figure it out" and by figure it out, that means writing it until it makes sense XD

Oh, I already knew I shipped them (with a lot of "no pervy stuff and no actual romantic stuff till she's older" provisions), I just had no idea it had infiltrated that deeply into my mind. No, I've shipped them since "Velocity" and the whole sequence where Bumblebee ice-skates with Sari clinging to his shoulder and giggling, because they are adorable and make such perfect partners in crime and I want them to get up to so much mischief together. And also I do a lot of Doctor/companion shipping so I am totally used to huge creepy age gaps. XD

Although I have to admit my resistance to reading fic about the two of them when she's older is sloooowly breaking down, I just don't like to admit that as much.

OH NOES. :O I have to admit I've never taken that approach to writing a difficult idea. I...almost want to write it backwards, now that I think about it. Like we're introduced to Sari after she's already lost her memory, and the only clue she has as to what's happened before is her mysterious talking iPod. And then things unravel from there? But I still can't figure out what might have caused the mindwipe in the first place, or where the other Autobots would be when all his was going down. Hmm.

Hahaha okay good! Yeah it's one of those pairings I very, very hesitantly admit to liking, with all of the same provisions. It helps that she's partially Cybertronian, so it could happen theoretically in the future and honestly not be that weird. And HEEEEEE definitely with you on Doctor/companion shipping.

I haven't read any fic for them, but I probably would, if it were awesome >_> Dude oh my goodness. I love the idea of starting there, it has a beautiful mindfuck quality to it. Hmmm... would it be traumatic amnesia, blocking only the event or a certain time frame, or complete blank slate has-no-idea-who-she-is? Targeting specific memories of places or people would be incredibly sinister and something a Decepticon would do. Since canon does allow for memory wipes of full Cybertronians (if it was done to her intentionally or accidentally). Hers would be complicated by the fact that she is also organic. And hell, if this is in the future, they could have been on vacation when shit went down.

okay I'll stop rambling now :D

I hate to admit it, but it helps that TV Tropes seems to ship it without much guilt - look under "Toy Ship" or "Cargo Ship". If TV Tropes approves than it must be okay, right? I have written a couple of (http://stunt-muppet.livejournal.com/220557.html#cutid1) fic fragments (http://stunt-muppet.livejournal.com/223580.html#cutid2) for them, but nothing complete; they're one of those ships I keep meaning to write fanfic for and then just never get around to doing, you know?

And okay, it's probably a sign that I'm really obsessed and need help, but I actually mulled this over while I was driving to my job fair today and I thought of two possibilities:

1. Post-TransWarped. The EMP that it took to knock Sari out and quiet her out-of-control powers also wiped part of her memory (not like there isn't precedent), and when she wakes up she doesn't recognize the Autobots or anyone except her father (and doesn't remember that she's a robot, either). Optimus, by this point, is really shaken up by how close she came to dying, and has decided that they're going to take this opportunity to leave without hurting her - they've screwed with her life enough, none of this would have happened to her if it wasn't for them, by remaining around her they're putting her and the Earth in danger, etc. So they back off, focusing on getting a space bridge running so they can take the fight off Earth (and since Sari was barely in Season 3, it's not like it's much of a stretch). I don't know how they get Dr. Sumdac to keep quiet about this, but I suppose they somehow convince him that this'll be best for Sari. And when she wakes up it's like nothing ever happened; she doesn't even find her age unusual because as far as she's concerned she must have just grown up like normal.

Bumblebee, however, isn't happy about this, and takes off from the rest of the Autobots, assuming a tiny, inconspicuous altmode so he can stay with Sari and maybe, slowly, help her remember who she used to be without alerting her dad to what he's doing. And that's where the story starts.

2. Post-Human Error. After Sari screwed up his plans last time, Soundwave (after reconstituting himself) decides to hack her mind instead. He isn't entirely successful, and can't bring her under control, but he does manage to (like you suggested) block out her memories of the Autobots and instead instill fear at their appearance; not only does she not recognize them, they frighten her instead of intriguing her. The Autobots, unsure of what's causing this, attribute it to more problems with her upgrade/new body and don't really want to try to "fix" it for fear that they'll make things worse or make her explode or something, so they back of for a bit while they try to figure out what to do. Then Bee gets his bright idea.

I like them both, even if I'm not sure what's going to happen after them - the first idea seems like it'd lead to a lot darker fic since it has less of a possibility of being fixed, whereas the second idea could lead to more of a missing-episode feel, though that could of course be subverted by not pressing a reset button on Sari's memory loss even after they figure out what's happening. Though I also have a slight reservation using the first idea because it gives Ratchet yet another thing to beat himself up about, and that's pretty much the last thing he needs ever. :(

Why no, I shouldn't have focused on how I was going to approach prospective employers. This was much more important.

Shit, if TV Tropes ships it, I won't even feel guilty about it. I have my provisions! I'm not that kind of perv, I will not feel guilty for shipping a legal-age awesome young lady with the giant alien robot she's been BFFs with since she was a kid. It worked for the Time Traveler's wife, right?? *knows nothing about that movie*

Hahaha I only think you'd need help if you MISSED your job fair for the sake of Transformers fanfic. How else are you supposed to settle your nerves? At least you went :3 (How did it go?)

Ooooh shit. Those are both genuinely good ideas. I love the "lost episode" feel in fic, a lot, and the less we can pile onto Ratchet's conscience, the better. Let's seee...

1. Post-TransWarped: I like this one a lot because of Optimus. That really does seem like the kind of thing he would do, especially during that time in the show when shit starts to get really intense and awful. She'd never forgive him for doing something like this, leaving her behind when all she's wanted is to help them in their fight, but if that was no longer an issue... yeah. He probably would take the chance to remove the Autobots from her life. You're right though, Dr Sumdac would keep his mouth shut if they convinced him it was the best thing for her (seriously, he NEVER told her she was robotic, as he seemed to think that was best for her as well).

But yeah, Bee? He would not leave her. ;A; I am with you there. I like this because them adventuring by themselves is so wonderful. And in a very Sari way, you know she'd only question her talking mp3 player for about .3 seconds before thinking it was the coolest shit ever.

Okay, I wanted to cover all the things I love about the first idea but I think the second would work better all around. On the one hand, her being AFRAID of the Autobots is freaky, that it's something that was done to her by a Decepticon does give one hope that it can be fixed. I do like the idea of not using a magic reset button though. Like, hrm, for instance... maybe at some point they can repair the damage that causes her to fear them, but they might not be able to recover her memories, perhaps not entirely. And again, I like that they back off, so Bee and Sari can have awesome adventures by themselves :3

Come to think of it, the second idea supports Bee's new alt way better. If she just "doesn't remember them", there's no reason why Bee can't continue to be her awesome robot car. If she's afraid of the Autobots specifically, he'd have to be something she didn't recognize, ie new adorable altmode and not transforming back unless he has to. Also, if this was done to her by Soundwave, I kind of like the idea of him stealing Cassette technology to compress himself down that small. THAT'S JUST ME THOUGH, sorry XD

Sorry about the late reply, being fic-thinky hasn't come easily lately so I had to wait until I was more into that headspace.

Oh, and there's another little bit for it on the Fetish Fuel/Transformers page, where someone brings up that Bee's reaction to seeing her upgraded form is "...you're different." As the Troper puts it, we all know what 'different' is code for in situations like these amirite. Though personally I like to fanwank it as "sweet now she's a robot I feel so much less awkward having a crush on her"

It was like an hour and a half drive to that job fair and then two more hours of sitting in line, I had to think about *something*. And it went okay, but...well, the only person who actually took a resume from me were the people I mentioned in that other entry. Bleh.

That is a really excellent point about the second story - there's not as much need for Bee to hide himself if Sari just doesn't remember who they are. And so far as them having adventures together - maybe Soundwave didn't think to program her to fear the Decepticons, at least any more than a person would normally freak out about huge robots destroying crap. And thus Bee can slowly try to reintroduce her memories, not by throwing her into combat obviously, but by having her relearn the ideas that hey, there are giant robots on Earth, and some of them are doing bad things, and it's our job to make sure they don't hurt your planet.

I really like the idea of having some of her memories remain gone even after the reprogramming, too. She's gone for much of the series, so it's not a huge stretch, and it allows for some nice scenes between her and the Autobots as she tries to re-learn what she's forgotten. And maybe at the very end her technopathy can come into it, like she'll start discovering it when she accidentally uses it on one of the Autobots - say, Bee - in order to see their memories and try to understand them. And that way it still mostly fits in canon but doesn't use a reset button. I really, really love it.

And you can still have Optimus withdrawing and considering just cutting himself and the Autobots out of her life now that it won't hurt her to do so, it'll just be for a different reason - like, after they've already decided to give her some space because they don't want to make things worse by trying to fix her, he starts thinking that maybe this is for the best before he discovers the reason behind the memory wipe. And that's why Bee gets angry enough at him to go AWOL and hide as Sari's mp3 player, because how could they even consider just leaving her?

Eeeee having Bee steal Cassette tech is a brilliant brilliant idea and I don't quite know how to implement it or how he'd get his hands on it (maybe some of Soundwave's machinery is still in the basement and he can figure it out from there? After all, there has to be a way to translate guitar!Laserbeak into the virtual world, right?) but it's amazing and somehow adorable and I love it. :D

Oh, no no, please don't feel obligated or anything. Talking ideas through is an enormous help and a lot of fun besides, and I appreciate you taking the time to do so!

DUDE THIS WAS MY BIGGEST THING WITH INCEPTION TOOOOOOOO!!! Like really, where was the random appearance of Mr. Magoo comic book characters in life size form, and the giant bats in my hallway, and having to get Toby and CJ from the West Wing out of a snowbank in my truck? I want actual, realistic-because-they-are-completely-unrealistic dream scenarios represented.

What wierded me out the most was that the projections were *alerted* that something was wrong when impossible physics and landscape shifts started happening. Isn't that perfectly normal in a dream? Wouldn't they be more alerted if there wasn't weird things happening all over the place? I mean, it would have made the movie a lot more visually distracting, but still.
