Re. your rant: the part of me that isn't outraged and frustrated with the fate RTD gave to Donna is the same part of me that laughs together with the Doctor at the end of The War Games. Remembering how turnedright!Donna was like in the face of chaos and danger gives me hope for her future.

And I like your coping strategy. Angry though I am that the Donna we've come to know is gone, at least she's still alive and still her amazing self, even without meeting the Doctor.
Plus, this provides room for the retconning itself to be retconned away at some point (Season 4b, anyone?).
