STAR WARS! (How fun is this meme?!)

This meme is so much fun.

1. What bothered me most about Episode 1 was not the dodgy acting or the dodgier script but those damn midichlorions. I hated that plot device even when I was thirteen (or however old I was when the movies came out) and couldn't yet distinguish bad acting. The midichlorions destroy the very concept of the Force as it existed in the original trilogy, turning it from a universal presence that anyone who was willing to trust it and learn its ways could work with to a Super Speshul Power restricted to a certain biological caste. I hate the midichlorions.

2. Speaking of the prequels, I didn't hate Jar Jar Binks until fandom told me to. I didn't like him, but I didn't loathe him and wish him dead, either. He was just kind of there.

3. I've read very little of the EU and don't really intend to read any more. I'm not into the fandom enough for it to be a problem, and frankly I haven't got that kind of time and money and have no idea where I'd even start.

4. I...erm...actually like Luke? Movie!Luke, not just EU!Luke? I have no idea if that's unpopular or not.

HAHAHAHAHAHA. I think it just might be, but I certainly share it. I mean Leia will always be one of my favorite characters in history, but she was raised in a loving family and brought up to be a leader and a stateswoman. Luke, on the other hand, grew up without any purpose of direction of his own. While I'm sure Owen and Beru did the best they could for him, he was absolutely raised in the shadow of his father and Owen's hatred of Anakin and that life. So, I don't blame him for being a whiny little bitch in the first movie. And I think Hamill did an AMAZING job of showing Luke's transformation from child to Jedi. (Woh, sorry that was such a long-winded response.)

You know what? I think I have actively and successfully removed that entire plot device from my head-canon. It just never happened. I honestly had forgotten all about it or I would have included it myself. ABSOLUTELY stupid. You are 100% right.

I think so, too, which is one of the reasons I like him so much. His whole arc is about him growing and maturing into the Jedi role; it wouldn't make any sense for him not to be a child, with all the attendant petulance and rebellion, at the beginning.

QUOTED FOR TRUTH. At least the Powers That Be had the good grace never to mention it again. (Did they? I might have blocked it out.)

See?! It was so stupid we have managed to effectively erase it from canon! Even if they did mention it again, I didn't hear a word of it. ;-)

Sweet! We've altered canon through sheer force of will! I've always wanted to do that!

I prefer to believe it was through the power of the force.

*waves hands* There are no such things as midichlorions...you've made a terrible scripting error...

4) I love Luke! OMG. So much. He's my favorite. Especially in A New Hope, in fact. (Which is my favorite of the movies, going further into unpopular opinion territory.) He was mopey at the beginning, but he didn't grate and I felt for him, and then he went on to spend lots of time putting in lots of effort despite lots of frustration.

Exactly! He's stuck out on a farm in the middle of absolute fucking nowhere with nothing to do for fun but fly and shoot at the local fauna. I think he's earned a bit of whining. And even just over the course of A New Hope, he grows up so much, taking on whatever's required of him. I am very fond of Luke.
