...and sleep I should be getting. But I told

[personal profile] rhia_starsongI'd do it.

I was wickedly, wickedly tempted into finishing up The Dominators tonight with her and [personal profile] kayliemalinza, and amidst our Very Serious Discussion of the deep thematic language of the episode we managed to squee a lot about how often Two and Jamie touch each other.

In case you haven't seen it, The Dominators features The Doctor Telling Jamie That He Is Clever, The Doctor Being Distressed Because Jamie Might Be Dead, and The Doctor and Jamie Lying On Top of One Another In a Smiley Pile After a Particularly Turbulent Capsule Flight. Also, swooshy kilts. And adorable robots which are obviously the overly affectionate little sisters of the Daleks.

Clearly, Two/Jamie contact is absolutely crucial to the episode. I mean, the narrative structure of the entire serial just completely falls apart if the Doctor and Jamie do not have their hands on each other as often as possible.

So

[personal profile] rhia_starsong, arush with the wonder and joy that is Gay Marriage In Space, asked me to make an icon.

So I did.

I didn't use a Dominators cap because I couldn't find one I liked, and frankly I'm not sure if I'm entirely happy with how this came out. But I figured I'd post the first one up here so you, dearest, could tell me what changes you wanted made and/or if you wanted more.

[personal profile] rhia_starsong, so far your icon looks like this:

I thought they looked good in blue, anyway. Much more interesting than greyscale in this case.

Made in GIMP with caps by [personal profile] calapine.

So? You like it? Any changes I should make?

Hahaa. There is much squee to be had from seeing Pat & Frazer at it. It's weird to think that, apparently, they were quite aware of the whole subtext/humour thing going on and tried to see how far they could take it.. I mean, you'd think that kids' TV in the oppressed 60's might not be the best of places to get creative with gay humour, but.. there it is. *shakes head* You gotta love those two.

Dominators is fun, ( under-scripted or not. Or something..) It is very cute indeed. And Jamie's so cool there.

That's such a fab icon. So true! ;D
(But, umm.. maybe the 'is' word could be behind Jamie's head? I know there's not too much space and the words are funny tilted like that, but it could be, possibly, maybe, perhaps, odd that they're right on their faces, no?)

Really, the fact that they did it on purpose just makes it all better. And if the directors could leave all of that in, I'd probably auction off my firstborn child to see footage of what had to be cut. :D I'm so fond of Pat and Frazer. So very fond.

...that video. Thank you for pointing me to that video; it manages to be wonderful and horribly depressing all at the same time.

I'll see what I can do about moving "is" around; the text to the left does look a little cramped, so maybe moving one word over would help. Thanks!

I love the icon! But then again, I'm a huge fan of the way Two and Jamie seem unable to keep their hands off each other. *points to own icon*

I haven't seen The Dominators yet. I must remedy that...

Aww, that is such a fun icon too. The only conclusion possible, haha.. ;)

Your icon made me laugh for far too long. "Two/Jamie was completely canonical, and we have the SCIENCE to prove it!"

The Dominators was lovely, except that the Quarks were way too cute for me to take seriously. It also segues very smoothly into The Mind Robber, as an added bonus.

It always helps when there's science to support it. *grins* [livejournal.com profile] yaseanne makes some great Two/Jamie icons, but this one in particular just kills me dead.

Hm. Yet another reason for me to watch The Dominators soon, then, as I've recently watched The Mind Robber for the first time.

Ooh! I love the black boxes with the type-writerly font. I agree that "this is" is a wee bit off somehow, but rather than moving "is" behind Jamie's head, I'd keep the text as it is and recenter the cap so there's more space in the frame to the left of the actors. Mostly I'd just poke the screen in an attempt to skritch behind their ears.

P.S. OMG U HAVE TTLY BLOWN OUR COVER!!!!

Hmm.. Good point. *nods*

The boxes-and-typewriter-font thing is shamelessly thieved from Anne Taintor, but I think it makes almost any caption so much funnier.

And I hadn't thought about moving them over in the frame; there's definitely room for it, and it would make the whole thing look less cramped. I shall try that next, perhaps while I'm not writing my essay tonight. XD

P.S. OH NOES! We shall have to adopt new secret identities, new code words, new everything! Dibs on the girly callsign.

How come there's only ever one girly callsign? It's not like there isn't a plethora of them sitting around, disused and moping about it. I call the most androgynous callsign

I want my callsign to be 'Sassafrass.' ^_^

Heehee. And so it shall be, Sassafrass.

And your callsign shall be...

Offenboffenscooteroo.

Muppet is Quark.

But, but...I wanted to be Cheshire And why do I always get last pick of names?! ;_;

Offenboffenscooteroo

...see, by the time I've called that over the radio, whatever I'm calling to warn her about will probably already be there. I insist upon a shorter callsign. For tactical purposes.

And if my callsign's Quark, do I get a homicidal robot big brother? 'Cause that'd be awesome.

xD that is fabulous. And so true. I'm not much of a slasher at all, really, but even I count Two/Jamie as canon.

Aw, thank you!

And yes, Two and Jamie are just too adorable to resist. :D Thing is, no matter what their shipping preferences, I've yet to meet an old-school fan who didn't think they were canon. That makes me quite happy.

Oooh, Muppet, this is fabulous! I loves it! You are so much more industrious than I; I still have not made my black and white porn icon. ::hangs head in shame:: mostly, I can't decide which lovely cap to use!

posted by [identity profile] stunt-muppet.livejournal.com at 08:12pm on 20/03/2008
Heh, I don't know if 'industrious' is the word I'd use, exactly...

And I'll probably fix it soon, as per the suggestions about the word spacing, so stay tuned.

mostly, I can't decide which lovely cap to use!

Oh, I know. We're so spoiled for choice.

We are pretty spoiled, considering that so many of the episodes no longer exist.

I think I might work on mine for a little bit now...
