A couple of memes before I head back to college and don't see the light of day for another few weeks...
The first one:
Comment and I will:
1. Tell you why I friended you.
2. Associate you with something - a fandom, a song, a color, a photo, etc.
3. Tell you something I like about you.
4. Tell you a memory I have of you.
5. Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
6. Post my favorite userpic of yours.
7. In return, post this to your own LJ.

The second one:
Step One:
Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fun ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.- If you wish for real possible things, make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
Step Two- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
- Ah, hell, I may as well put the ridiculous one first: This.
- CSI Season 5, any season of The Muppet Show, any Doctor Who series, Old or New School, and/or Law and Order Season 13 (which isn’t actually out yet but shhh) on DVD. ‘Cause TV is shiny.
- A beta/Britpicker/Classic-canon-checker for my Who fic. Or just a beta, really – someone who will be brutally honest both from a grammatical, canonical, and story-structure standpoint.
- The means, incentive, time, and resources to finally rewrite and finish my first ever posted fanfic. Yes, self, you know it sucks now, but you made your very first fandom friends with that fic – you first dove into Internet fandom thanks to that fic. You owe it completion at least.
- To finally develop some functional social skills without having to give up the teeming Internet and fandom subcultures I’ve come to love. Impossible? Probably. But I want it, dammit.
- Some new books to read, or even some new book recommendations. It’s been a long time since I’ve read anything new, and while Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchett keep me amused, it’s time to start branching out again. (Book rec guidelines: I’m not fond of horror, and I’m still quite squeamish, so I politely request that you not point me in the direction of King, Palahniuk, Rice, Poppy Z. Brite, and their ilk. Also, despite my love for romantic fanfic, I grow bored with romance novels unless they’re extraordinarily good and do something fresh and new with the genre. I enjoy fantasy and science fiction, but have fallen out with epic fantasy except in parody form – Diane Duane, Neil Gaiman, and the like are more my style. I adore crime fiction, mysteries, and intriguing life stories most of all. Rec away!)
- Speaking of recs, some fanfic recs would be nice – any of my fandoms, anything you think I’d like. I’m flexible. And hey, music recs would be nice too – again, anything you think I’d like, and my tastes are pretty diverse as far as music is concerned.
- Some simple, easy recipes, so that I can begin my cooking adventures. (Preferably recipes that don’t require anything other than a microwave, because that’s all that I’ve got in my dorm.)
- Fanart drawn to accompany my fanfic, or fanart that illustrates a scene from my fic.
- I’ll second what
stellaluna_said, as well: any fic written with me in mind, regardless of the fandom or the specifics.

Regarding wish #6, I would suggest Lois McMaster Bujold, particularly The Curse of Chalion and Paladin of Souls (The Hallowed Hunt was a little dull) for some good fantasy. And Cat's Eye and The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood are what I would call intriguing life stories. :D

Lois McMaster Bujold, Paladin of Souls
"If you do not give me a bedroll at once, I am going to sit down on the ground right here and start to cry. Now."
This threat, delivered in a dead-level tone, seemed to get through at last; at least, he stopped worrying about all the things he thought she ought to have, that weren't here, and provided what she asked for, which was. He led her to the officers' tents by the trees, picked one apparently at random, poked his head inside, and ushered her within. It was stuffy and warm, and smelled of mildew, strange men, leather, horses, and oil for blades and mail. There was a bedroll. She lay down on it, boots, bloody skirts, and all.
Ferda returned in a few minutes with a piece of brown bread. She held up one hand and gave a vague wave; he pressed the morsel into it. She gnawed it sleepily. When the tent's owner returned...someone else could deal with him. Foix could have convinced him that this blatant theft was an honor to be devoutly treasured, she had no doubt. Ferda might do almost as well.
Margaret Atwood, The Blind Assassin
Ten days after the war ended, my sister Laura drove a car off a bridge. The bridge was being repaired: she went right through the Danger sign. The car fell a hundred feet into the ravine, smashing through the treetops feathery with new leaves, then burst into flames and rolled down into the shallow creek at the bottom. Chunks of the bridge fell on top of it. Nothing much was left of her but charred smithereens.
I was informed of the accident by a policeman: the car was mine, and they'd traced the licence. His tone was respectful: no doubt he recognized Richard's name. He said the tires may have caught on a streetcar track or the brakes may have failed, but he also felt bound to inform me that two witnesses- a retired lawyer and a bank teller, dependable people- had claimed to have seen the whole thing. They'd said Laura had turned the car sharply and deliberately, and had plunged off the bridge with no more fuss than stepping off a curb. They'd noticed her hands on the wheel because of the white gloves she'd been wearing.
It wasn't the brakes, I thought. She had her reasons. Not that they were ever the same as anybody else's reasons. She was completely ruthless in that way.
Hope this helps. :)

My second recommendation is Legends of Literature, edited by Phillip Sexton. This compilation of essays and articles from Writer's Digest includes pieces by H.G. Wells, Jack Kerouac, Eudora Welty, Stan Lee (yes, the comic book guy), and Stephen King, among many others. I've only just started reading it and I'm already hooked.
8. I actually have several recipes for microwave meals! Send me a message with your email address (and tell me if you're a vegetarian because most of these recipes include meat).

And now I wanna make you mix tapes... or at least burn you some mix CDs, since I've been forced into the new millenium, albeit against my will.
And I wanna send you books now, too. I'll at least give you recs, and provide you with quotey bits sometime in the near future. Some of my favs: The Blue Wall (Carsten Stroud), Black Water Transit (also Carsten Stroud, I'll just rec him in general), The Street Lawyer or A Time To Kill or The Partner or The Client (all John Grisham), The Prosecution (D.W. Buffa), and on a non-crime related note, A Complicated Kindness by Miriam Toews, because I adore it, and occasionally start to think that I'm the main character. The Georgia Nicholson series are good for a laugh, and Jann Arden's books (although likely impossible to get in the US) are incredibly fantastic.
I'm hungry. So I'll see ya later. Good luck w/ life, et al.

I can probably find you some nifty micro recipes, since I'm a cooking maven. Is there anything you really *don't* like, such as okra or Mexican food...that kind of thing? It helps if I know what you enjoy, too, so I can try to find recipes that build on your preferences. :)

TODAY'S STORY: Yes, there are zombies in Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital. Lots of them. Also House and Wilson aren't really sure whether they should snuggle or what. Seriously, this is my new favorite fic ever.
