and noticing just how *close* school is getting,

Less than two weeks. Where did all this summer go? It certainly doesn't feel like it's been two-and-a-half months since I was last in school.

Eew, comment wars. No fun at all. Your strategy of pretending it never happened sounds good to me.

(Just curiosity: Did that comment war involve the Terms of Service/banning tomfoolery? I'm glad I missed most of that.)

Yes. Only I wasn't exactly calling it tomfoolery, which put me at odds with pretty much everyone in fandom.
