In keeping with the Shower Law*, now that work has begun in earnest and I actually have things that I'm supposed to do (which I had finished when I started this journal, don't look at me like that), the plot bunnies have come out in force, displaying themselves on whatever scrap of paper I happen to have handy. Of course, plot bunnies being their half-formed and temperamental selves, only three of these ideas have actually reached fruition, and those were all drabbles. Drabbles that I plan on expanding, but still.

Puts me in mind of that Pink Floyd song; "wave upon wave of avengers marching cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream", or something like that. I just know I've got that wrong.

Anyway, of these bunnies, the vast majority thus far have been of the species Piratus Caribbeanum, and as many have  followed roughly the same theme, I am led to contemplate the following...

WARNING: The following discussion may contain mild At World's End spoilers.

Of all the PotC bunnes that have emerged so far, only one of them would definetly be a full-fledged, multi-chapter work (if I ever got around to writing it, that is). The rest range from thousand-or-so-word oneshots to tiny things that are scarcely more than double-drabbles.

These ficlets all have one thing in common: they take place before, after, or in between the Pirates movies, never during. The first and third take place between movie 1 and movie 2, the second takes place a decade or two after movie 3 (and has nothing to do with Turnerette, before you ask), and the fourth takes place in between movie 2 and 3. All four thus far are focused around Will, Elizabeth, and Jack, though Will is favored since I've been musing about his character for the last few days.

Now, I had thought about posting all of these under the umbrella of a single fic, probably with a deeply unoriginal title such as "Before, After, In Between". But since the fics themselves are so disparate, both in style and subject matter (the first is a mostly introspective piece with little to no dialogue; the second is almost all conversation), and have varying amounts of spoilery content, I'm at a loss as to what to write for an enticing tagline or hook. It'd just be the same bare-bones description-type summary such as the one I use for Little Brothers. But then, I'm bad at taglines anyway, so I'm not sure exactly what I'd hope to accomplish.

I normally have no problem with posting really, really short fics; several drabbles and overgrown drabbles have made their way to ff.net. Really, there are only two reasons why I wouldn't put them all together, and that's that I'm sure someone's already done something like this and probably done it better, and that they have almost nothing in common.

So...any ideas? Would a collection of ficlets be better together or apart? How would you describe them? Do any more original titles come to mind?

Also, would anyone terribly mind beta-ing them when/if/before I put them up here?

*The Shower Law states that your best ideas will always come to you at a time when you cannot or should not be writing them, such as while showering, while at work,  while you should be sleeping, etc.

I'd be happy to beta them for you. As for posting, I'd suggest putting them all together as a sort of piratical anthology, maybe titled "Jeu d'Esprit" (here not meaning "witticism", but being literally translated as "play of mind". Your mind at play). For a summary, maybe you could have something along the lines of, "We all know what happens in the movies, but what happens in the median?", then give whatever pairings, etc.

Another idea for the title would be to give each individual one-shot a special title, and then name the fic as a whole after one particular one-shot that you feel reflects a recurrent theme in all the one-shots.

P.S. I feel your pain with the Shower Law. I have been known to jump out of the shower in order to write down an idea.

Your beta-ing help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much! :)

"Jeu d'Esprit" sounds like quite a fun title, and one I'm very seriously considering. Only three of the four one-shots so far have a title ("Now What?", "It Gets Us All In The End", and "Taking Your Chances"), and the last two of those titles are indefinite and will most likely be changed. I like your idea better.

XD I have to say that I've never actually jumped out of the shower, though I have started reciting lines to myself to make sure I'll remember them until I get out.

Right, so...

A) Now more than ever, it is entirely necessary to my health and well-being that you write these fics.
B) I would very much like to give you viable ideas for a summary, but without seeing the actual story all that jumped into my head was "moments unseen," and I don't know how to expand on that. The only other thought in my head is that if your pieces are all set outside the movies, which rely heavily upon action and fighting, can I take it that yours are set during quieter interims? That might be a theme worth highlighting. Though admittedly I'm just taking a stab in the dark here.

And if all else fails, there's the tried and true "quote a line from the fic" version of a summary. That tends to work well for people.

All he needs is a hat, and some more suitably piratelike clothing.

Yes, indeed, these pieces are all set during quieter points where there's no fighting going on. One of the titles that I'd thought of before was "Interludes", which did reflect that theme but was also maddeningly unhelpful.

I do like the "moments unseen" idea, though. Something could certainly be done with that.
