So I had a nsfw sideblog on tumblr, which I backed up and shuttered when the ban rolled in. A few posts in there were things that I wrote, so reuploading and backdating those here makes sense. However, one of the things that blog also had a lot of was art.

Now, with some of the art, I may be able to find the artist again and link to another copy of the piece on DeviantArt/pixiv/the artist's web gallery. However, that won't be possible for all of them; some may have only had tumblr blogs or have gone inactive since then. But, of course, I don't want to repost art on an unlocked post where it could be further distributed without proper credit to the original artist.

Plus, as far as nsfw writing goes, I've had it cordoned off on a sideblog for so long that having stuff like that on my main account where - where anyone who follows me can see it instead of having to specifically opt in to do so - feels uncomfortable to me.

The way I see it, I have two options for a nsfw space. I could either:

A) Create a specific friends lock on this journal for nsfw content and put any art I'm unable to properly attribute there. Asking for access to the flock would mean understanding that there would be unattributed art and that it's not to be reposted unless/until I or you can track down the artist and get permission.

B) Set up a community for stuff that would previously have gone on the sideblog. Posts of my own content, or content I'd gotten permission to reupload/link, would be public. Unattributed art would be in member-locked posts only, and again, getting membership would mean agreeing not to repost the art further.

Looking at the two options written out here, I'm pretty sure I'll go with creating a comm, since that lets me keep writing/headcanon/prompt posts public and in the fandom tags while also letting me restrict access to art reuploads. Only real disadvantage is that I feel slightly self-important creating a whole ~community~ just for my porn stash.

So, if you've got input, or any reccomendations for what you did with any of your sideblogs (nsfw or otherwise), I'd love to hear them! Or even thought in general on adapting the good parts of Tumblr to a journal-based platform like this. It's something I'm still hashing out myself.

I can definitely understand a community being convenient for organization purposes. And I know at least a couple of people who've made comms for brainstorming or personal writing, so I think your sideblog would fit in well!

Looking at [personal profile] the_ragnarok's suggestion below, I kind of like the idea of making a group where everyone could deposit their stashes, even if they don't have everything attributed yet, or making a themed NSFW community based on the kind of material I used to have on the sideblog.

And since you mentioned it, a comm for writing or brainstorming sounds like a good idea too, as a way to keep writing stuff public and accessible. Maybe two comms, one for everyone's stash, and one for my own writing/brainstorming/headcanons, including nsfw ones? Hmm.

Either way it's probably going to have to wait until after MagFest, so I'll have some time to think about it.

I was about to raise my hand for access to these nsfw posts, but this community idea seems really neat!

I'm still not sure myself what, if anything, of my tumblr experience I want to carry over. Technically speaking, I don't really need to think about it, seeing as how my blog is swf and generally doesn't have much in the way of personal stuff, and I'm not deleting it either....but somehow I'm still thinking about it.

I think I'm going to go with the community idea, ultimately; I just need to decide what kind of comm I want to set up. I can't decide if I want it to be just my personal stuff (especially writing prompts/fics/headcanons), or if I wanted to make a community themed around a specific theme/kink, or if I wanted to make a general comm for everyone to share their stashes. Maybe I could make more than one?

Tumblr for me was where I moved to after LJ, so while my personal posts were far outnumbered by reblogs, I did have some personal things on there that I'd like to keep. I've been using it since...I think 2011? So that's a lot that I've put in there. And I know I can technically keep using both, but I'm never that good at keeping up multiple social media sites. I can barely keep my Facebook current, and that's a whole different set of people on that site! I don't know. I like to consolidate but I'm not sure how much I could do that with DW and Tumblr.

I know what you mean about tumblr, I moved there from LJ around the same time use it, and I couldn't keep up LJ after that. And now that I'm here I'm getting more disappointed with my tumblr experience than ever. For the past couple of days I haven't been able to bring myself to catch up with my dashboard and I have been doing that religiously almost every day since I started? Not to mention all the bots that have been following me AFTER the purge. Ugh.

Anyway. Maybe some other valid options might be... keeping your personal stuff on your blog under nsfw tag and/or specific f-lock and then crossposting to the community if you want to? Also instead of multiple comms, maybe just one big one and then people can submit and share stuff, and visitors can just cruise the tag they're here for?

hey, why the hell not make a community.

if you want, though, you can make a community around your general porn interests - the malesubs and torture porn were of particular interest to me - and invite others to also upload their porn stashes. ofc it is very valid if you want a community just for your stuff!!

When I'd got the idea to begin with I'd mostly thought of a community just for my own stuff (especially any prompts, headcanons, or writing that was nsfw), but the idea of modding an actual participatory community appeals to me. Granted, I wasn't a great mod when I had communities to run back on LJ, but I'm slightly better at budgeting my time now and it probably won't be as busy here now as it was on LJ in 2009.

Maybe I can do both? I'll have to think it over. Thank you for suggesting it, though!
