Why doesn't every sport have an octopus?

So apparently, in an aquarium in Germany somewhere there's an octopus named Paul who has correctly predicted the outcome of every match Germany's been in so far.

Today, it predicted that Spain would win the Spain/Germany match, much to Germans' disappointment.

As a result, one fan in the German stands is holding up a sign that says "Even octopus can be wrong."

This sport is amazing.

I have to admit, reading that op-ed scared me a bit. How can you be so vehemently against soccer? How do you get that...well, that paranoid and hateful and etc.? But I have been curious as to why it's not as big in the US, and I suppose those are believable reasons.

I know, isn't it great? Every sport should have a predicting octopus. It makes me happy.

Between that and the BPAL merch, it makes me want a Cephalopod Cup. Squid football for everyone! Squids representing every ocean!
