1. I have a haircut. It's a layered bob and it looks very perky and smart. Also, I got my highlights redone. Maybe I can look forward to a few weeks of not being handed applesauce instead of tortilla chips at the local Mexican place.

2. During today's trip to the dentist, I finally got my retainer fixed so it isn't gouging into my gum anymore. This'll make actually wearing the thing so much easier.

3. The illness is gone at last! After another day or so where eating was more than I could manage, I'm finally feeling better. Which is good, because there's nothing like stomach issues to make a seven-hour drive more festive.

4. Cheap books! One of the frillion Borders' near my house is going out of business, and while it was almost cleared out by the time I got to take a look, I did walk away with a book of George Carlin sketches, a teeny paperback version of A Study in Scarlett (which I keep meaning to read but never have), Play by Moby, and Live aus Berlin by Rammstein for just over $20. No replacement for Second Story Books (which I'm going to miss dearly back at school), but not bad.

5. Cuban food! There's a grand total of one Cuban restaurant back in The City Close To Collegeland, and it's a half-hour drive so I never end up going, so I miss Cuban food while I'm gone. After the dentist's appointment, Mom took me out to Tiny Cuban Restaurant, where I had the same thing I always do, except this time I also tried a guayaba-jelly-filled puff pastry of some sort which I utterly failed at (trying to cut off a piece turned into five minutes tearing at various layers of pastry and trying to coral them onto my fork). It was quite tasty, though.

6. My dog. She's pushy, lazy, and will stare at you for hours if she thinks there's even a small chance you might give her a taste of what you're eating, but I miss her too, when I'm at college.

7. Monk. I'm sad this show's getting cancelled, but so very glad it's ending before the quality started to slide. Also, one of the only shows ever to pull off a "long-lost brother" plot without making the episode suck. It helps that they actually mentioned it before this episode and worked it into the plot, of course.

8. Psych. You realize, show, that now that Monk's leaving, you have to stay on the air FOREVER. Otherwise none of the shows that made me start watching TV will be on anymore, and that will make me very sad.

9. A whole 300 words written! In one day! And on a belated [livejournal.com profile] fandom_stocking  fic no less! *does required dance*

10. I've been in one of those moods lately where I, very suddenly and apropos of nothing much, suddenly bolt upright and think "This is awesome! Why hasn't anyone written it yet? I should go write it right now!" Which, of course, I can't, with the dentist-ing and the hair-cutting and the packing (I should be packing right now, in fact), but it's just nice to be in that mood after weeks of writers' block. Hopefully I'll be able to sneak in a little writing tomorrow in between unpacking and installing security software and talking to Resident Life and whatnot.

(The two ideas in question were "Liz Shaw meets movie-verse Tony Stark and pwns him with sarcasm" and "post-Three Doctors Doctor/TARDIS/Jo". Stop laughing at my one-track mind. D:)

Things that do not make me happy:

1. It's still cold. I know, I know, you all in the hinterlands are laughing at me, but 30 F and windy is cold to me, dammit, and I want it to stop. I'm done with cold weather. Let's move on to spring now.

2. I'm going back to school tomorrow (later today, technically). I suppose I'm excited to have a fresh start, but I can't way I look forward to actually having to do something with m time again. Plus, I'm worried that this'll be yet another failure semester, where I get pretty good grades but still emerge with nothing resembling a consistent work ethic, self-discipline, or organizational skills. Or an active social life, for that matter. Oh, and I don't know who's going to be sharing my room this semester, so that'll be an adventure, for good or ill. And I didn't see all my friends this break, nor say goodbye to those I already saw. I'm sorry, guys. The end of this break snuck up on me rather a lot.

Off to pack, then to bed.

what kind of highlights did you just do frosting? How did you like your new cds? I feel in love with my Louis XIV cd, I listened to it straight three times, before I listened to my other itunes.

Yeah, I don't understand why it is cold, besides the fact it is winter, but it has been so cold for a while, it has affected the central heating in my house, thus I have to wear two sweaters.

Ok, the name of the restaurant that you should stop at during the way down is Aunt Sarah's Pancake there is one in Fredericksburg and Richmond, I can't remember where else, I think there is one on the North Carolina/Virginia border. It has a great gift shop filled with beanie babies ( hah, it sort of embarrassing to admit I still collect them sometimes) lol

I got partial highlights, so my hair's completely blonde again instead of just blond near the ends. I haven't actually listened to my new CDs yet, I'm ashamed to say - I haven't even unpacked them.

It's much warmer down in collegeland, I'm glad to say. It's still chilly, but you can get away with not wearing a jacket during the day.

I'm jealous of your Carlin sketchbook. There's a Borders near me closing today, too, but between money issues and being busy I won't be able to get to it. =( Shame, 40% off stuff! Also, Play is awesome. I love Play, good choice there.

I've neither read nor listened to either of them yet, since I haven't unpacked them, but I look forward to them both. And strictly speaking, I shouldn't be spending any more money either, but...cheap books. :(

2 and 1 on the second list might cancel each other out. It's not exactly nude sunbathing weather in college land but since I've been there/home you can go without a jacket or wear a t-shirt and still be sane. And each day after December 21 it becomes, the days get longer and more sunlight exposure and ergo more time to warm up and less time to cool down. That's the only thing that makes me want to go back to Berlin.

I know you're probably (hopefully) already driving, so good luck belatedly. And, wow, mystery roommate is a bit scary. Maybe you'll end up without one. They usually run it by you beforehand to make sure you get along! Seriously, how could they not? But then again maybe it'll be a transfer or something and you'll end up besties.

I've noticed - I could walk outside in just my sweater today, and while I was chilly I wasn't freezing to death like I was back home. And the sunset's coming at 6 rather than 5:15, which is refreshing.

Thanks for the good wishes. I think I'll end up with a roommate eventually, just because my room's so big, but still, I might get lucky this time and get someone I like. And I've called RLO, and they've said they'll allow me to discuss what I want in a roommate this year and/or at least meet some of the people looking for a room, so it won't all be blind chance.
