Scream of the Shalka is AWESOME.
I just thought I should say that.
I mean, really, any Who story where the Doctor has built himself a robot copy of the Master to live with him (which is simultaneously hilarious and very, very creepy (especially when the Doctor switches him off), the Day Is Saved by show tunes, the Doctor complains about there not being any Pachelbel on a jukebox, the Token Military Personnel calls the Doctor on his abhorrence of the military, and the Doctor has canonically met Antoni Gaudi is welcome in my canon any day. In fact, I think it IS canon, and TV!Nine is actually Ten and just doesn't remember it because his brain is Borked From Time War.
I want so much fic of REG!Nine and Robot!Master and Allison now, guys. I mean, there's two stories on Calufrax, and they look quite good and I've set them aside and everything, but I want more. I want their continuing adventures throughout time and space!
Must run; dinner's almost ready. But I thought I should express my enthusiasm.

I don't care about the quality of the animation or what have you, I enjoy Shalka. And it has unexpected!Tennant, which I'm ashamed to say I completely did not know about, until, uh, very very recently.

And agreed: Shalka was great fun.

I KNOW. I can't think of any other explanation for that answering machine other than "having sex/tickling/engaging in foreplay while recording". No, wait, actually, I can think of another explanation. And it's "Naked Twister".
Ooh, I didn't know about
There was unexpected!Tennant? I completely missed him? Whose voice was he? And yeah, the animations kind of jerky and odd, but the voice work is so good and the characters are so fun to listen to that I can deal with the animation.

The story's so-so but I fucking love my exceptionally dysfunctional OTP.

I'll admit it: I want to write fic about REG!Nine building the MasterBot, and all the intricate programming that must have gone into making an even reasonable facsimile, and the whole idea of building a robot of your (presumably) dead best enemy that while cunning and sarcastic is still perfectly controllable by "Off" switch, and just...it would be so melancholy and yet creepy and deliciously fucked up. But I think someone's already written it, and if they haven't there are people who could write it better than me and I'd rather they do it.
Of course, the assumption is that it's still the Master's actual mind in there somewhere, since he speaks of choosing continued existence, so perhaps it's just his Matrix-brain-print thing downloaded into a robot body? Even so, there's fic to be had in this.

Alison is delightful, isn't she? I want fic where she and the Doctor go to the seventeenth century, make dry art history jokes, and sample the wine.
I always assumed the Android!Master was created because after the TVM the Master had no body. So the Master's consciousness is in the robot. Still doesn't make it any less creepy... but Fanboy!Jacobi is my hero.

This is why I love this fandom. It's so full of nerds of all stripes. :D
But why would he be surprised? Shalka was amazing. He should know that; he wrote the thing. :D
I love Allison. I'm sad there isn't more of her (much though I adore Shalka!Nine and Robot!Master, fic that ships them tends not to include Allison)
And I love Fanboy!Jacobi. Have you seen the Utopia Confidential? There's a bit where he talks about how he always wanted to be on two TV shows: Doctor Who and EastEnders. "So now I suppose I just have to be on EastEnders, somehow." ♥

Fact: Paul Cornell has a visible Aura of Modesty, like steam around a teacup. Perhaps that is why he ALWAYS looks like he needs a hug.
I remember reading an interview with some RSC folk talking about Brian Blessed getting cast in the Star Wars prequels, and Derek Jacobi saying, "I would be a grain of sand in a Star Wars movie, if they'd let me!"

Me too. :D I think there were ideas getting tossed around for fics like "the five times the Doctor disagreed with modern art"; Warhol was in there, naturally, and Klein, and possibly Kasmir Malevich even though there was another anon there who was actually fond of him (I've never met anyone else who even knew who he was, so...I was squeeful). I think after that we got sidetracked.
I've set aside An Irksome Word and Task to read (as I haven't had a whole lot of time to read anything new yet), but I've not read it just yet. I'm looking forward to it, though.
Cornell always seems very humble and self-effacing in his interviews; one of the reasons I want to go to a con is that I'd love to meet him. Funny to know he's the same way in person. :D And aww, Jacobi. I love it when srs actors talk about wanting to do geeky roles like that. What part did Brian Blessed play in the prequels, though? I must have missed him.
