I'm still overjoyed about Obama's election, but I can't help but feel a little disgusted with this country all over again when I hear that Prop 8 wasn't blasted out of its miserable existence. I expected better from you, California.

But even in the face of that, the fact that Obama is President-elect, and that we have made changes, gives me hope that we can fix this, we can do better, we can stop debating about whether or not equal rights should be upheld by a state constitution and make progress at last.

And that is (probably) my last political post for a long while, because I'm getting a headache just hearing the world "election" right now.

----

A while back, [livejournal.com profile] who_otp did a mini-mini fic challenge, where the goal was to produce fic of less than 40 words. The summary, however, could be as long as you liked. So, in lieu of productive writing today, I snuck those in between annotating pathways. Posted here so I feel like I've accomplished something. (DIY NaNo was on hold for the past few days, due to work and things, and it's still technically on hold, but these ficlets are bite-sized and don't take terribly long.)

6 microficlets, 3 to 36 words, het, femmeslash, gen, crack. Playing along, in comments or in your own journal, is highly encouraged. ;D

Title: All One Needs Is the Proper Leverage
Ship: Three/Jo
Words: 12
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Sometimes, it pays to be the one with the keys to all the handcuffs.

“Jo –”

“I just want you to say you’re sorry, that’s all.”

----

Title: As Near a Kinship as One Could Wish
Ship: Polly/Victoria
Words: 3
Rating: PG
Summary: Displaced in the 20th century, Victoria finds a kindred spirit, a traveler in time and space who understands her predicament...

“You look fab.”

----

Title: Definitions
Ship: Three/Liz
Words: 6
Rating: PG-13
Summary: There is a sublime mathematics to the human body; the balance of cantilevered arms, the potential energy of the half-curled fingers, the calculated curve of the waist and hip and thigh.

Y = 1.7sin(.3X). Useful bit of trigonometry, that.

----

Title: Tomorrow
Characters: Ben, Polly, Dodo
Words: 10
Rating: PG
Summary: It was easy to forget that only a day had passed for everyone else, but there were always reminders.

They visit Dodo the next day; she hasn’t gotten better.

----

Title: Photography in the Mid-Twentieth Century: An Overview
Ship: Zoe/Isobel (from The Invasion)
Words: 31
Rating: PG
Summary: The archives contain the work of the era’s most prominent photojournalists, including early work never before made public.

Zoe is the girl in the photograph, laughing at the camera, too innocent with joy to play the coquette.

Zoe is the library archivist, and wonders where this picture came from.

----

Title: Wars Have Been Waged Over Translational Errors, You Know
Ship: Three/Brigadier
Words: 39
Rating: PG-13
Summary: On the heels of a harrowing adventure, the Doctor and the Brigadier seek relief in that oldest and most familiar of ways.

“…knew no ‘arm of Bonaparte and plenty of th’ Squire...you’re singin’ it wrong again, Doctor.”

You’re singing it wrong. ‘S a Venusian marching song originally, y’know.”

“And yet you're singin’ in English.”

“Because ‘s a translation, Brigadier. Obviously.”

Actual proper writing to happen after pathway annotations are done. Which looks to be...never. Nngh.

I loooooooooooooooooooooooooove these!!!! So much crammed into so little space. I envy your ability to do this. I think Photography in the Mid-Twentieth Century: An Overview is my personal favorite.

Thank you! I've only tried writing these once, and it always surprises me how tricky they can be. Photography is one of my favorites, too, so I'm glad you enjoy it!

These are awesomely wonderful.

Also, I'm sorry about California fucking it up for everyone :( :(

:( Hey, if it'd been my state, I'm sure they'd have fucked up, too. It just surprises me that so many people are still scared to treat gay people like everyone else.

Oh, love to see the mini-mini fic again! Yours are brilliant, with terrific titles and summaries, but it's the Ben, Polly, and Dodo one that made me gasp out loud and feel teary-eyed. Terrific linking of events and beautifully executed.

Oh, love to see the mini-mini fic again!

I know! I caught the tail end of the last round on [livejournal.com profile] greenbubblewrap, but I keep hoping that [livejournal.com profile] who_otp will do another round now that I actually know how to write a couple of characters.

It's a point of personal canon for me that, after they got back home, the first thing Ben and Polly did (after, you know, getting some sleep) was go check up on Dodo. :) Glad you enjoyed them!

You may have heard this down the hallway; I read the microfics aloud to Sweet-bean, and she screeched. Several times. The reason I read all of this aloud is because I got as far as the first microfic, gasped in sudden laughter, and irrevocably piqued her interest.

More detailed feedback to follow when you've-- OMG YOU'VE JSUT WALKED IN.

OMG YOU'VE JSUT WALKED IN.

OMG HAI.

I'm so glad you enjoyed them, and that Sweet Bean enjoyed them, and that they did make you squeak. Especially that the first one made you squeak, because I was worried that it was only funny to me. :D

These are all so fun! Except for the Ben/Polly/Dodo and the Zoe, which make me maudlin. In the good way, of course. =D They're great.
