I've returned.

Wedding went off without a hitch, aside from being COLD (you damn yankees and your damn weather, getting this cold in October and all; it's just not natural). Dress looked pretty and did not fall down. Bride and groom both happy, good time was had by all. Amusing anecdotes and perhaps photos to follow, but the few times I was actually home I spent sleeping, so I got no homework accomplished, which means I have a huge-ass lab due Monday morning

Also I did not clean up my room before leaving, which means I have to clear stuff off my bed if I hope to sleep in it. Not that I'll have to worry about that if I keep putting off this lab.

No writing accomplished either, save 150 words I ticked out on my phone while waiting for the plane. Boo, that's the one thing I was hoping to get done.

Speaking of writing, does anyone know if [livejournal.com profile] lizbee's Cliche Swap-a-thon is still running? I haven't gotten my assignment yet, and I didn't know if they'd been sent out already and my e-mail was just failing me (as it does).

Also, is it bad form to fill your own ficathon prompts if you think no one else will?

Finally, and in conclusion, I have seen the new promo photos for the Star Trek movie, and after my initial moment of "wtf Star Trek movie why", I have to say that I have formed an opinion, and it is thus: Shattner!Kirk is hotter than Pine!Kirk. OH YES I WENT THERE.

Quinto!Spock looks quite good, though, and since I am not already used to him as Sylar (never seen Heroes) I quite look forward to seeing what he'll do with the part. Now gimme some hi-res Simon Pegg!Scotty shots, JJ. Right Quick.

Off to do huge-ass lab, back later.

Shatner!Kirk is hotter than Pine!Kirk.

Like there was EVER any doubt. Shatner was one of the hottest men of all time back in the day (not that I'd kick him out of bed even now). Pine never stood a chance.

Finally, someone who understands!

What gets me is that Pine's just too...pretty. He reminds me of Robert Pattinson in a way. And while there's nothing wrong with pretty per se, Kirk was way more butch than that.

Dude, totally. Shatner was sexy because Kirk was a man, with all that implies. Animal sexy. Pine is definitely too pretty.

Not to mention he's not wearing the uniform half the time. Uh, wtf, Shattner rocked the uniform. It meant something when he took it off/it got shredded, and he still looked fine in it. Putting the Captain in muscle tees all the time is just Trying Too Hard.

I didn't even think of that! But you are so, so, so, so right.

Dear Muppet. I want you to know that I hold your intelligence and personality in high esteem, and my affection for you is not primarily sexual in nature. Also, I am not a stalker.

I just wanted you to know this before Sweet-bean poisoned your brain with lies and misrepresentations.

Love,
Kayliesaur.

Oh, what shenanigans have you all been getting up to while I'm not looking? Also, precisely which lies and misrepresentations do you speak of? There may have been many.

I feel very comforted and reassured that you are not a stalker, however. Not that I thought you were, because I didn't, but it's just always nice to add a name to the list of "Friends who are not stalking me", you know?

Oh, no shenanigans at all. None. Don't you worry. >>

I think it's time to admit that I haven't been living in my parent's house all this time. I've been living on the roof of Belk with a cardboard box, a Spiderman sleeping bag, and a never-ending box of Ritz. At night, I peer through the windows.

I just wanted to be close to you. :(

Well, for goodness sake, come in already. It's too chilly up there for you to be spending nights on the roof. That's what we've got a futon for. :D

(Although that would explain a certain roommate's otherwise inexplicable habit of closing the blinds.)

It's ok, my Spiderman sleeping bag is really warm and I have a portable heater that runs on nuclear power. :D I'll pop in for a visit once my mutations are ripe.

Didn't you know? She's an olm:

The light burrrrrns her, precious.

The picture, it does not appear. However, the Wikipedia article explains everything for me. Suddenly the perpetually shut blinds make perfect sense.

I'm no mod, but in previous ficathons, I've seen the following-- Filling your own prompts is probably not encouraged first round, but if you complete your assignment and no-one's filling yours, second go is fine. But check with [livejournal.com profile] lizbee?

Then again, on a completely self-indulgent note, I'm totally drawing one of my prompts for [livejournal.com profile] dw_historical (Liz Shaw/Nichola Tesla OTP). I figure I'm doing ten mini-drawings for ten people, I might as well be one of them. I'm doing your Four/SJS/Harry Metropolis prompt, among others, so you finally get them in 1920s garb!

I think [livejournal.com profile] lizbee's ficathon uses prompt assignments, though, so I wouldn't have to worry so much about that. The "filling my own prompts" query was actually about the historical ficathon. I was quite worried that nobody would take the Metropolis prompt - 1920s-50s German cinema is sort of my pet historical obsession - and so wanted to know if it'd be okay to write it myself.

So you can, of course, imagine how excited I am to hear that you're working on the Metropolis prompt. :D I have only a vague idea of which ones I want, but while I don't know terribly much about Lenin or Joyce I have kind of a thing for Dadaists, so I might give your last prompt a go.

Gratuitous Icon Post! :D I'm not too knowledgeable on the subject, but I know the period fashions and can do movie research, so I'm excited. I think you should totally write it if no-one else does, if only to go with the art.

Okay, I'm going a little crazy in my head with this art thing because now I think I should do period art pastiches. Particularly, I want to do a Hirschfeld cartoon of Six and Mel meeting the Algonquin Round table. But then I want to be consistant. Which leads into things like Byzantine icons, Chinese art, and German cinema posters...! Any good online resources for that period?

My final prompt was shamelessly stolen from part of the scenario for the Tom Stoppard play Travesties. I will be delighted to have only Tzara and Dadaists should inspiration strike! I am equally delighted to find you interested in my long-shot prompt, as I am with yours. <3

Hee! That icon is amazing. And while I'm afraid I can't point you to any particular resource regarding posters (I just wiki them as I do so much else), the German Expressionist movement in film (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_Expressionism) had a very distinctive look to it that should lend itself to imitation. (I did find this site (http://www.greencine.com/static/primers/expressionism1.jsp) very helpful.)

The thing is, I find German movies nowadays a cross-section of amusing and incomprehensible, but I fall over myself for German Expresisonism and the films of 20s-50s Berlin. Maybe those are just artsy and incomprehensible in a way that I like?

Ooh ooh ooh, pastiche art would be amazing. I am especially excited at the thought of Who characters in Hirschfeld style, but I love the idea of sampling from a wide variety of art styles to represent a different Doctor's adventures. For some reason Ten seems like he would fit right in a Futurist painting. XD

I'm a bit ashamed to admit that my Stoppard reading is limited to Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, but ever since I had to study Dada for a thesis I've found them fascinating. Still, I think I could at least manage to work in Joyce as well; we covered a bit of his biography in English, so a little more research won't hurt.

Don't be ashamed, I don't expect anyone to be familiar with Travesties, as it's the least-frequently performed of his major works. I'm just a HUGE Stoppard freak, so I've read and seen it.

The production I saw included a list of obscure references they make in the program. And corresponding to that list was a big display of more information in the lobby. But yeah, it's not that well known, but you'd probably like it if you like Dada.

XD I've been a Yankee for longer than I've lived down here, really, so I can't berate them us too much - but I wish so badly that I could transport Southern autumns up into my northern home states. I like it when it stays warm.

I don't know about the Cliche Swap-a-thon, sorry. I haven't received anything, but I'm not sure whether or not I actually count as I fear I signed up after the deadline.

So actually, there is no point to this comment. Hmm. Except to break the habit of lurking I fear I'm falling into. I'm just excited to see my flist for the first time in months rather than just checking a couple of places. Hello!

Ah good - if other people haven't gotten their prompts yet, then that probably means they haven't been sent out yet, so I'm still okay. I just wanted to make sure I hadn't missed a deadline or had the e-mail slip through the cracks or something. It's happened before, and I'd rather it not again.

And hello again to you too! It's always nice to hear from people. *waves*
