Just late enough to watch more TGWTG videos of cheesy horror TV shows and post a meme!

'The iPod Shuffle Meme

No, not that one. Let's be honest, when we need inspiration, the first place we go is our music library. So let's try something a little bit different. My music library is no help to me, but maybe it can be for someone else. Here's how this thing works:

1) Comment to this post, and I'll give you a prompt in the form of whatever song shuffles up next on whatever music player I've got going at the time.

2) Turn on the music player of your choice to shuffle, post this to your own journal and dole out prompts. No, you can't hide your shameful music. If it shuffles up, that's the gig.

3) Write/draw/whatever way you create for the prompt you've been given: post it. Again, no hiding the shame. Even if you think it's awful, post it.

4) Link your finished product to the prompt comment, because it's always lovely to see the results.'

I may skip a song if I can't find a YouTube link, since then I won't have a convenient way to link you to the music!

Alas, I have not finished my own prompt because I am still slow. But again! Day off tomorrow. If I don't spend it napping (which I might) I may do some writing! Or just waste time on the internet, y'know.

stunt_muppet: (Default)
Honestly, not much has been happening that I'd talk about here! I haven't managed much writing (or at least I haven't managed to finish anything), I've drawn on occasion, I've piddled around on a fanmix and tried to work on a vid...nothing really complete or definitive. I've also been working more hours at my shop, which is good because it means I've been able to accrue some savings but also means not as much fannish downtime.

So...partly popping in to say I'm still alive, yeah. I've been commenting more than updating, and I've been more active on Tumblr because it lets me post pictures of puppies and pretend it's content, but there are also memes and stuff to do. I'm slowly going through all the meme backlogs on this journal and trying to finish them up for completeness' sake.

Also I've been spending an absurd amount of timing reading Homestuck. And reading about Homestuck. Time Sink Award Winner right there.

So, things:

1. If Movie: The Movie is not a Yuletide fandom by this December I will be disappointed in Fandom At Large.

2. contemplating getting into Mass Effect? And I fully admit that this is down mostly to the pile of awesome fanart, and also Garrus and Legion who look really cool. And also the prospect of Sheppard/Garrus, because I'm just horrendously predictable that way. Really, the only thing that stopped me from seeing if my computer was up for it on Steam was hearing certain spoilers regarding the ending of ME3 that I am not sure I am down with. Maybe I can just play the first two and leave it there?

There's also the point that I want to support BioWare after they basically told homophobic gamers to GTFO after someone complained about the m/m romances in Dragon Age. I'd like more game companies to do that! It'd be nice. Maybe I could play Dragon Age instead? Hmm.

3. I've been beading! A lot, actually, though mostly simple stuff. Here, have some pictures!

Pictures! )
You can find most of these (save for the paper beads, which I'm not finished with yet) on my etsy page if you'd like to wear them for yourself! Or just look at more pictures.

4. I always want to write fic based on my fannish dreams and then I remember that a) nobody cares about other people's dreams and b) the whole reason they're dreams is that even in context they don't make a whole lot of sense.

...It was a Generator Rex dream wherein Noah had to go on a mission to the bottom of the ocean for some reason but then his radio cut off and no one knew where he was so Six went down after him, busted through the ocean floor, ended up in a grey lobby with someone who was either Death or one of Death's assistants and then dived out a window into a featureless void. And after that I had to leave for some reason (because the whole thing was something I was watching on a movie screen) and when I came back no one else in the theater would tell me what happened. My dream projections are dicks. :(

5. A meme answer! From [personal profile] caiusmajor , one of those seven-questions things wherein you comment asking for questions and I ask you things for you to post.

Cut for length and discussion of robotporn. )

6. I have some other stuff I guess but I've been typing this entry for far too long. See you later flisters.

stunt_muppet: (Solitaire: A writer's best friend)

There's like five writing memes going around and I would like to do them!

Two pinched from[personal profile] spacehussy:

Post the first sentence (or three) from every WIP you're currently working on, even if it's very short. Then invite people to ask questions about your WIPs. With any luck, you'll get talking about writing, and the motivation to take that WIP one step closer to completion will appear as if by magic!

A ha ha ha like anything will make me finish stuff but it's worth a shot.

WIPs! Lots of them! In Doctor Who, Transformers Animated, Transformers Prime, and Homestuck fandoms, plus an origfic! )

And the other meme: If there was a kinky scenario you could request me to write, what would it be? Please be as specific as possible reasonably specific without going onto pagelong kinkmeme-prompt lengths.

No promises, but, hey. I always like to see what people would like for me to write. Or like to see written.

Not that I don't have bajillions of prompts to write already. Um.

The other meme tomorrow, maybe, as it is quite late and I am tired.
stunt_muppet: (nom nom nom)
Because everyone was doing it and I was feeling left out:

In honour of All Hallow's Eve, I'm inviting trick-or-treaters to my 'door.' Comment "trick-or-treat" to this post and...well, you know the drill. Treats can be anything that strikes my fancy (pics of fave actors or pairings, one sentence fics, doodles, a few words why I'm glad to have you on my flist, etc. etc.). The more "houses" to visit the more fun it'll be, so go ahead, open your journal and help spread the fun!

And now, let's get some spookiness up in here. :D Since there's a lot of scary movies and stuff out there, I'm going to be focusing on video games. And music.

The Path: A dark take on Little Red Riding Hood, short on actual gameplay and long on mood, atmosphere, and metaphor. Not jump-out-and-yell-boo scary, but unsettling and strange nonetheless. I really recommend you play this one yourself, rather than watching a Let's Play, since the game changes every time it's played due to the randomization of environements and there's no way to duplicate any play experience, and it's all much more fun if you go in without knowing what's going on. However, there is a Let's Play available here.

Pathologic: ...this one's a little harder to get your hands on; it's originally in Russian, and the only English translation available is rather poor, but...honestly? Just read the review of it. It will make you want to learn Russian so you can play it as it was meant to be played. And then download it and play it anyway despite the fact that it will bring you nothing but pain. Marvellous pain.

Shade: Always one of my favorites. A creepy, oppressive Interactive Fiction that manages to terrify using only text.

Speaking of old favorites, have you checked out The SCP Foundation yet? It's a marvelous little alternate-universe urban-fantasy-deconstruction wherein the titular foundation contains and monitors paranormal creatures and phenomena ranging from the hilarious to the more darkly hilarious to the mindbending to the ghoulish to the extremely fucking horrible.

I was going to put some more in but my goodness it's late. Maybe tomorrow/later today.

Happy Halloween, flist!
stunt_muppet: (nom nom nom)
I've also learned that Matt Bomer (from White Collar) was in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2: The Beginning. The modern version, not the original.

Neither of them could elevate the pain parade movies they were stuck in, sadly.

I don't know why, but organizing and labelling the scarf section at the shop made me feel quite accomplished. It was a big section! And I organized it and labelled it and restocked it and made it look tidy! Apparently I'm now in charge of the scarf section and keeping it stocked, as well as in charge of the Facebook page! FUCK YEAH I AM THE BEST EMPLOYEE EVER.

Which makes me feel kind of terrible about going to a job fair yesterday and actually having people ask for my resume, establishing contacts et al. I've been working at the shop for over a year now! I've got more responsibilities! I'm good at what I do! Oh, wait, you say there's a full-time position somewhere else? Okay bye guys. Don't forget to say nice things about me to prospective employers!

I know there's no real reason to feel guilty about this - I had never planned to stay at the shop forever - but I don't want to just jump ship when I'm good at what I do there. Maybe I can volunteer on nights and weekends.

Or maybe, just like every other time, no one will hire me and the point will be moot. But hey, there were some organizations at the job fair who were actually looking for communications people to translate medical literature! That's pretty much what I do and they seemed pretty excited about my applying, so. We'll see what happens.

So the "DVD Commentary" fic meme is going around, and while normally I skip it because I don't write nearly enough to justify using this meme, but it's been a while, so:

Pick a one-shot or a single chapter from one of my multi-chapter fics and I will do a DVD-style commentary on it. You know, writing process, places the story might have gone, scenes I ended up not writing, stale know, stuff.

Sleeping time now. I'm actually getting back on track with schoolwork! It's amazing. Everything feels manageable.

In fairness it's because I'm doing laundry and had run out of undergarments.

Anyway, another meme going around the flist, because I like saying nice things to people:

Post a comment, and I will reply with a reason why I think you're great. In return, you might like to post this same meme on your blog and comment for other people. Circle of positivity!

Also, you know a canon really has a dearth of women when you're trying to do a "Five Girls [X Character] Hasn't Kissed"-type scenario and you can only think of three people to pair her up with. And two of them aren't even in the same series.

Yes, I wanted to do something like that for my next Miko fic. Don't worry, it's all wholesome and nonsexual and stuff. Of course, now that I'm in my twenties it feels wrong and perverse writing a sixteen-year-old in a romance of any sort, even if in most of the ficlets she's aged-up. I know that people have boyfriends and girlfriends when they're even younger than sixteen, but, still.

Thus far, I have her paired up with Sierra, Sari, and Mikaela, the last two in future or post-robocalyptic scenarios, but after that I'm fresh out of ideas short of a Doctor Who crossover. Looks like a picspam instead.
stunt_muppet: (nom nom nom)
Maybe if I do some memes my head will stop hurting. And my homework will disappear. It's a thought.

Ganked from all over the flist:

Give me a character name (and an 'verse*, if relevant) and I'll write you a drabble about how they lost their virginity**.

*Which can be a canon 'verse, an AU I've written, or something you made up on the spot but think I might actually have something to say about.

**For many possible values of 'virginity', 'lost', and 'drabble', depending on the character, situation, or my whim.

And another, although I'm not sure I understand it or what we're meant to do with it:

"If I made Cinderella, the audience would immediately be looking for a body in the coach." Alfred Hitchcock

If I wrote a story today, what would the readers immediately look for? Original story or fanfic, either way.

Back to labs, dum de dum.

ETA: And now Mom's watching Blade Runner and it's got the damn voiceover on it. I saw the uncut version first and I did not realize how frakking horrible that voiceover is. Ugh. Take it away.
stunt_muppet: (ben and polly en rose)
Ganked offa [ profile] bodyline , because this is totally what I should be doing with my time:

List 50 of your fandoms including your favorite characters (and pairings).

Except in this case "fandom" is defined as "something that I have either written or sought out fic for" and  "favorite" means "whoever I think of first" because fuck picking favorites, meme, you don't tell me what to do.

Fifty Freaking Fandoms )

Why do I have so many fandoms you guys. ;___;
Mood:: 'bored' bored
stunt_muppet: (ben and polly en rose)
Brief fannish points preceding actual content:

1. Digging through more or less the entire archive of the Highlander slashfic comm rendered exactly zero fics about the original movie. I haven't checked the main fic comm yet, but dammit why don't fandoms cater to my every whim, it's not fair. *stomps about pouting*

I mean, it's not like I dislike Duncan or Methos or Joe or anyone - I've never seen them in anything, except Endgame and The Source, and that's not really anything to go on, and heck, Joe even managed to be really awesome in The Source, which considering that the whole movie is a big "fuck you" to the franchise and anything anyone loved about it is quite an accomplishment. But nothing at all for the original movie? Nobody else wanted MacLeod/Ramirez? Nobody else came away from Endgame wanting Connor/Duncan? lol nobody saw Endgame, there's your problem.

Nobody else realized that, if MacLeod and ramirez are ~ancient aliens~ in The Quickening, this by extension means that all the other immortals are exiled aliens too, which means at some point MacLeod and the Kurgan were on the same side, which might just account for the Kurgan personally tracking down MacLeod? Well, of course not, because even the other movies pretend that The Quickening doesn't exist and rightly so because it's silly, but come on, stop making me write shit I actually want to see.

I'd try to do a fifteen-minute condensed version of the first movie to drum up some interest except I am positive none of you care.

2. Finally saw the Half-Blood Prince movie today! And yes, I am that far behind. For some reason I just can't make myself watch the last two. I'm not super depressed that the franchise is over, because I doubt the fandom's going to run out of steam, but I really did grow up with Harry Potter, and even if I was never very fannish about it it was a big presence in my life as a reader and a fan. I'll miss having more movies to look forward and it feels weird to watch the last two.

But on to my main point, I found that the movie was much, much better at making me feel sorry for Draco than either the book (probably because it's all filtered through Harry's POV) or fandom-at-large has managed to do. I kind of chalk it up to my being in a more charitable frame of mind towards Draco now than I was when the book came out, by which point the Draco In Leather Pants phenomenon had become widespread and extremely annoying, but I think the movie actually does a really good job of giving him all the spotlight it can, and Tome Felton does a similarly good job playing him as scared and angry and backed into a corner. And for the first time after a long time of sticking to the Power Trio, Luna, and Neville fannishly I find myself wanting to write Draco redemption fic wherein he begins working through some of his issues post-Deathly Hallows and maybe even comes to a sort of understanding with Harry.

I'm not sure how to feel about this. (Also, yes, simple statistics tell me that this fic must already exist, but I'm scared to look for it. It's a big terrifying fandom okay.

And some memes to round it all off, both ganked from several flisters:

Give me a pairing and I will:
1. Tell you who I think tops
2. Who has the prettiest hair
3. What their children will be named
4. Which one would be the loudest during sex
5. My ideal scenario for them

Pick one of my fics and I will give you five Tropes that appear in the fic. Or Tropes it averts, plays with, subverts, etc. if there aren't five I can think of.

Good night.

It's all over the flist, I couldn't not post it!

Comment with any ship (romantic or platonic or maybe even non-existent!) from a fandom that I am or have been been involved with, and I will rant about aforementioned ship. This may be incoherent gushing or exclamations of disgust, depending on your ship of choice.

Two other points:

1. Saw Pirates 4 today! And it was a lot better than I thought it would be! I really benefited from being free of all the entangled subplots of the last two movies and starting fairly fresh. And also Penelope Cruz was fantastic and I don't know why she wasn't in all the movies. And I have some spoilery thoughts but they'll have to wait till tomorrow when by some chance I may have caught up on comments or something.

2. Have been keeping TGWTG reviews on as I work for background sound, and in light of the recent crossovers I am discovering another reason why I love Phelous so much: he's basically the No Sell of the cast. People keep trying to construct plot threads and events and tie-ins around him, and no matter how dangerous or eventful said plot thread is it loses power simply because he ignores it. If he weren't already a Time Lord I would want to write a fic where he's a part of a different Lantern Corps whose rings are powered by skepticism.
