I still don't like chemistry.

I just...maybe it's just that I've been staring at this textbook all day, but I am so sick of chemistry. I'm sick of memorizing formulas and memorizing which compounds have which oxidation numbers and which compounds are and aren't soluble - because it's all memorization! Every damn thing! And to no obvious point and purpose. If I had any reason to care about which compounds lost electrons in a redox reaction, I might be able to do the memorization. But there's no real-world application, no practical purpose, no reason for me to care. Oh, and yet I STILL have a problem set to do, and I haven't done any Bio this weekend either. And I don't feel like doing pilates on Monday.

Oh, and that pan-asian place I used to visit whenever I could afford isn't all that good anymore. I suppose they changed recipes over the summer or something, but...I don't like their food anymore, not even my old favorites, and I used to live off the stuff. This is not something you want to realize when you've had a depressing day full of Chemistry.

And so, a meme. I wasn't going to do this initially (I posted it, then deleted the post), because it was self-indulgent of me and I barely have any fic written anyway, but I am not feeling good and am looking for something to do: Request any fic of mine and I will provide you with a commentary/annotations, like a DVD extra.

Click on the fic posts tag for all the fic that's posted here; there's also my FF.net account and my Teaspoon account.

*stomps back to Chem textbook*

[ETA] And it turns out that I have the wrong edition of the textbook in question, and it's too late to get another copy right now, and I can't ask for an extension since I was supposed to be working on this problem set all this week.

I hate this class. It's too early for me to hate it this much, but I do.

than are dreamt of in your philosophy, please :)

(Strangely enough, I'm developing a bit of a soft spot for Adric despite thinking he's an annoying little brat. I think this is because ever since listening to The Boy That Time Forgot he's become an interesting annoying little brat.)

Will do. *salutes*

I've not yet heard The Boy That Time Forgot, given that I am still breaking into this whole audio thing, but thus far reactions seem to range from 'pretty good' to 'meh'. Something for the To Listen To Later list, then.

Chemistry was pretty rough in high school. My favorite part sad to say was learning about 3 mile island, because my family ended up visiting the island when we ended up taking a wrong turn, when we were going to Harrisburg. I feel that way ( no real purpose) when I have to learn about how paper is made for my book design class, except memorizing how paper is creating isn't as tedious or as difficult as complex formulas. I guess I could say the classes that are the most tedious is the business classes I have to take for my masters of science:/ ( again they don't beat chemistry)

Really, any time there's just straight-up memorization involved with no practical application involved, I can't get it through my head. I have no reason to.

Good luck with your business class, though.

Bummer about Chem. Hope it's your last semester of it. Is there any way you could share a textbook with someone?

It's early enough in the year that I can exchange textbooks, so that should be okay. I'm actually enjoying chem a little more now that I'm learning to take better notes, but...

The thing is, the teacher's really nice, so I feel bad about not liking the course. But it should be the last semester I need to take.
