Over the Fourth of July weekend, I made sauteed mushrooms. All by myself. I even sliced the mushrooms on my own.
My prior cooking experience has been limited to baking and instant pasta. But lo! I have made an actual proper dish that people can actually eat!
I feel so competent. :D

That said, I didn't get much accomplished, in that none of the various fic projects I set out to complete are finished. Some of them are close, though - the Ben/Polly kinkmeme thing is almost done, save for a few sections where I need to adjust my Cockney, and the Lucy/Brig fic has almost been edited enough to put up on t'Teaspoon.
Related topic: Would anyone be willing to beta the Three/Jo kinkmeme thing once its done? Yes, yes, I realize that having a beta defeats the whole purpose of the kinkmeme, but I have some specific concerns re: whether the dream imagery I use for the Doctor is too human. Besides, I'd appreciate it if someone could let me know whether or not I'm failing at sex scenes (never really written a proper one, you see). Also, I'm probably not going to put this one on the meme itself, as I suspect I missed the point of the prompt (it's a kinkmeme, not a weird-ass psychosexual thingermajob meme), but I rather like it on its own and could probably own up to it enough to post it proper.

Have I mentioned that I love Science Centers? We visited one over the weekend, and even though they're meant for people about half my age I love them still. They help me to re-learn stuff I've forgotten, like how an engine works, while simultaneously making me look smart because I know how to distinguish between a plant and animal cell. Not to mention they're inevitably all hands-on and exciting and let you pull levers and push buttons and mess with stuff. And this one had an exhibit on the Segway. I got to drive one and everything.
Segways are really quite fun to drive; once you get used to the lean-forward/pull-back control scheme, it's intuitive and simple, almost instinctive. And they're efficient, too. Shame they never really caught on.

One of the things I really missed while we were on vacation? Like, more than the internet? Diet Mountain Dew. Diet Coke and its ilk are just not the same.
