I used to have a "spontaneous orgasm" icon. I wonder what happened to it?
Anyway,
pixxistixx4meand I went out for an Epic Day Of Fun today, part of which involved seeing Iron Man.
Fic-related chitchat: Still clicking away at Chapter 2 of Memory. I've decided to just write out a "rough cut" of the chapter very quickly, for the sole purpose of getting the meat of the story on the page, and then going back and refining the whole thing later, rather than editing as I go as I normally do. Waiting for the perfect phrase to hit normally results in me staring at a blank page for days on end, and I need to learn to just go, to get the words out there and perfect it later. It's rather like hour!fic, really, only with more editing.
Also, have spent a while with the BBC photonovels, doing research for the Two/Polly request over at whoniverse1000. Unfortunately, it's hard to cultivate a Polly!voice since all of Polly's stuff got burned. For some reason, the loss of The Macra Terror makes me particularly bitter. I mean, yes, obviously, the absence of Evil of the Daleks stings most of all, and if it was a choice between getting back Macra or, say, The Highlanders or The Web of Fear I think dear Macra would lose out, but I have this huge soft spot for The Macra Terror and it saddens me that I'll never be able to see more than a few minutes' worth of hypnotized!Ben, protective!Polly, and Killer Crabs From Outer Space. :(
If I write that Ben/Polly fic, I think I want it to be post-Macra Terror. And for some reason I want to write Mission to the Unknown fic, because it looked like a fascinating story and I am ANGRY that it doesn't exist.
Also, Miami-fic mojo is starting to return after watching a few Season 3 episodes with my parents. I'm so easy that way. :D
Anyway,
1) A superhero movie with an actually sharp script and a "great power = great responsibility" speech that sounds like something a human being might say? Joy of joys!
No kidding, the script really was the best thing about this movie. The people talked like people, which in turn made the characters more believable; no huge, dramatic speeches, no pre-assembled monologues (except where such a thing would make sense, like at a press conference), and some very smoothly handled exposition. Well done, writers. Well done.
2) The Tony Stark/Pepper Potts relationship felt very Doctor/Companion to me, what with a kind of immature genius who invents for the love of inventing, but who eventually comes around and does good for others, and his patient assistant whom he occasionally insults or ignores but who sticks by him, picks up his loose ends, and saves his life when called for. In fact, it felt vaguely Three/Jo to me, but I think that's just because I'm a dork.
Would that make Obadiah Stane the Master?
I like these parallels. I think I'll explore them a bit more.
3) I love Tony's robots. I love them so much. Especially the one with the fire extinguisher.
3)a) While we're on the subject, I ship Tony/Jarvis hard. But that's mostly because I adore Jarvis, and I want to write fic where he and Pepper make each other coffee and gripe about their boss. Plus, he's got the voice of Paul Bettany. What's not to love?
4) Obligatory Shallowness: The "spontaneous orgasm" in the first line refers to Robert Downey Jr. throughout this entire movie. No exaggeration. But especially the bits where he's all dirty and bloodied up and backlit in those caves, wearing a wifebeater, hammering away at the prototype suit. Mmmmmm.
4)a) Dark Secret Shameful Confession: I wanted to do bad things to him even while he had the red-and-gold suit on. There is no reason on earth why I should find full-body combat armor sexy, but damn. (Yes, I am appropriately ashamed of this. Why do you think it's at the end?)

Well, there's also the fact that in the comic books Pepper ends up marrying somebody else à la Jo... *is a bigger dork*
Are you still going to do the Ben & Polly tribute for
(no subject)
And yes, I'm still doing the Ben and Polly love post. I've been procrastinating a bit on it, but I've got the pictures I want and most of the descriptive portion; I'm collecting the fic recs and icons now.

I'll sent you an e-mail with the council, troop number et al. Can I still use your college e-mail?

I desperately want Evil of the Daleks to fully exist but after that I would take a Ben'n'Polly in a SECOND. They just do not have enough. I really want Power of the Daleks to see their reaction to regeneration. I haven't watched the recons yet cos recons eat a little bit of my soul. :(
(Sorry for the super-late reply, am working through my tabs...)

I haven't seen the recons of Power of the Daleks yet; all I've seen of it have been the surviving clips, which show some of the Doctor's reaction but very little of Polly and Ben's. And I want a Polly/Ben serial back very badly - I'd take any of them, really, since they all look so fun. I suppose we're fortunate even to have the audios, but...still.
