I second your headdesk, and I vote we just don't replace her at all. The crime lab doesn't really need a coroner, do they?
Unless they replace her with NY's Dr. Zao That would be excellent. I miss that guy.
4. Ooh! *perks up* Perhaps I shall read part 1 after all. Can you point me in its direction? Because while I'm sure it's obvious, I seem to be failing spectacualarly at finding any of the fics you mentioned. (Ten/Donna too, since yes, that is exactly what was going to scare me away.
