Which is how I justify my reaction, anyway - I screamed, slammed my laptop shut, and then continued screaming when THAT DIDN'T MAKE THE SOUND GO AWAY.

And then the image went away and a SpongeBob laugh started playing.
I think the SpongeBob part might be the most horrible thing in all of that. Ugh, that sounds quite unfun. And I sympathize with the screaming, because I would have done exactly the same thing.

And apologies for my ignorance, but what is Rickrolling?

The SpongeBob laugh really was the worst part of it, becaise (since the computer was shut) I had no idea if it was coming from an insane clown or whatever and so was still too scared to look. It wasn't fun at all. *shudder*

Oh, I didn't know what Rickrolling was until today either, so it's not ignorace, don't worry. "Rickrolling", apparently, is linking to a video of Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up", while Cleverly Disguising the link as something else. It seemed to be the April Fools prank du jour this year, but I've no idea why.

Oh, so that's what the LJ news was about. I didn't even realize that was a joke. I just saw there was a video (which naturally I ignored), shrugged, and promptly lost interest in finding out whichever new person they'd hired. The only thing I didn't get was how/why they made a link to a community go to a personal journal.

Yep. I ignored it the first time too; I'm inclined to ignore lj_news posts unless/until people in the personal journals I watch start complaining about whatever was in them. It wasn't until someone pointed out that there was an April Fools' joke involved that I bothered to click the link. And thus began a long, long string of the same damn joke. All day.

It wasn't until someone pointed out that there was an April Fools' joke involved that I bothered to click the link.
That would be me, I guess. But yeah, it was funny then, as it was a solitary situation, but it's the kind of joke that very quickly outstays its welcome. For that same reason, I refused to check out YouTube's April Fool's joke, as I'm sure it must have involved some Rickrolling as well.

Er. I hope it didn't sound like I was mad at you or anything; I just know some people don't like having the content of their journals mentioned, and I didn't know how you felt about that.

But no, I did get a giggle out of it when you showed it to me, and I wouldn't have seen it otherwise. It wasn't until every other LJ community started doing it that it got old and annoying.

Don't worry, it didn't sound like it. And I appreciate the thought - I don't usually mind when people mention this kind of entries, but I know a lot of people who get upset so I'm always glad to find people who respect that.

Yeah, even the funniest things usually lose their charm when repeated ad infinitum - and in this case the fun factor is much more limited.
