First off, the movie rec:

On Saturday, my uncle, my brother and I went to see The Band's Visit. It's a very quiet, independent film set in Israel, where a ceremonial police band from Alexandria, Egypt (complete with ridiculous uniforms) find themselves stuck for the day in a moribund city, reliant on the kindness of strangers whose language they don't speak (they communicate in English for much of the time). The film, which is in Arabic, Hebrew, and English, is very funny, especially in the awkward opening scenes. However, as it progresses, it  becomes deeply sad as well as deeply funny, as the members of the band and their hosts begin to open up to one another. It's very slice-of-life, even if it's slice-of-unusual-day-in-the-life, and I highly recommend it if you can find a theater that's playing it.

(Of course, that'd be the hard part, since it's a very small film and was only playing in three theaters in my area. If you don't have an arts theater or independent theater nearby, you might be out of luck. However, if you do, it's well worth whatever drive there may be to see this film.)

A thought: I keep forgetting how much I love Potbelly's sandwiches until I come back home (we had them for lunch before the movie). But really, I think their roast beef and provolone might just be my favorite sandwich ever - it even beats out the Union's chicken sandwich, which is saying a lot. Why, oh why aren't there any Potbelly's back in Collegeland? I think someone needs to rectify this immediately.

Now, a question: Have any of you downloaded the DivX player? If you have, how does it work? Is it really buggy? Does it draw a lot of viruses or Trojans into your system? Any that your average security program couldn't deal with? Anything else I should know about it? There are quite a few online videos I'd like to watch that require DivX player, and I'd like to know what I'm getting into before I go wantonly downloading things. :)

I'm headed to bed soon; spring break thus far has consisted of occasional writing, watching my brother play Guitar Hero (and attempting to get back in practice myself), conversing with family, and generally lounging around the house being useless. Feels pretty good, it does.
