During my computer breaks, I make icons!

Yes I do.

So far, so good with the cut-down-on-internet thing. I actually studied for my Religion test, I got my reading and such done on time, and I've remembered to do almost every major task I had today.

Also, I managed to drag [personal profile] kayliemalinzainto Doctor Who. Merci, "Genesis of the Daleks".

So, um. After Genesis, I was inspired to do some iconing, particularly of the Four and Harry variety. (it's surprisingly hard to find good Sarah Jane caps for that serial. There are a few good shots of her, but none from the segment I was looking for.) To facilitate my iconing, I finally relented and downloaded GIMP, and am finally starting to learn how to work it.

Of course, I could hardly stop after the Who icons, so I turned my shiny new computer toy to my stockpile of Miami images.

Behind the cut are:

8 Doctor Who icons (Mostly Fourth Doctor and Harry, mostly variations, plus an edited version of my earlier Delgado!Master icon because he's cool.)
15 CSI: Miami icons, (Horatio, Yelina (some H/Y), Alexx, Calleigh, one Eric and Ryan, mostly variations)

Doctor Who Icons:
Notes:
1) 1 and 2 are quotes from "Genesis of the Daleks"
2) I am excessively fond of 5. I don't know why. Is it bad form to use one's own icons? Because I really like 5.
3) Lyrics in 8 are from "Still Alive", by Jonathan Coulton & GlaDOS. Yes, aka the ending theme from Portal. Expect more Portal quote icons once I can find some good screens to go with 'em.

CSI: Miami icons:
Notes:
1) #1 was my firstest icon ever. :)
2) I've no idea why none of my Calleigh icons don't show her eyes. Expect a rectification of that come next icon post.
3) I started out with as many Horatio caps as I've Miami macros and I ended up with ONE workable icon base. Maybe two. The man's suprisingly hard to iconify.
4) I swear #8 didn't look that grainy when I was making it.
5) I was really fond of the black-and-white filter. Can you tell?
6) I think I like my "No icon!" placeholder better than I like my actual icons.

Textures from [profile] pinkmelons, [profile] bassviol, and [profile] 77words.

More to come, so soon as I clear up a little space on my poor, overloaded hard drive.

d'awww, I like numbers 1, 2, 5, 7, and ESPECIALLY 3 of the Who icons. ^_^

If you need temporary holding space for some stuff, I can lend you my Seagate or MAXTOR. Also, I have an external DVD burner and blank DVDs, if your laptop doesn't burn DVDs internally. sylvia doesn't. :/

I feel like I've seen the curly haired actor from somewhere. Is he in another movie and I'm just missing it?

You mean the one in the scarf? He's been in other movies, but none that I've seen (and he has short hair in most of them, anyway). I do believe he was in a version of The Canterbury Tales at some point...

Hmm. *goes to trawl IMDB*

Glad you like them! I'm fond of #3 myself - the screenshot was just so cute!

I think my computer has a DVD burner, but I'm not certain - I should probably call Dad and ask. Thanks for your offer, though. I may take you up on it at some point in the future. :)

Actually, the disc drive itself should tell you, in writing or a symbol on the flap-- Mine says "compact disc rewritable" and "dvd rom." I hypothesize that if your drive can burn DVDs, it'll say "dvd rom rewriteable." And if it doesn't tell you, oh well. It takes like, 5 seconds to check. ^_^

(another idea is to see if there is DVD burning software in your start menu, although that is not a fool-proof indicator.)

...late reply, because you caught me right before I headed off to class.

Um, my disc drive says the same thing yours does, and I see a CD burner in my menu but no DVD burner. So I guess that's a no.

It is not at all bad form to use one's own icons--most of mine I made. ::squee:: Who icons! They're lovely! If you have questions about gimp, let me know; I'll see if I can answer them. You're really good at iconning, though.

Oh, I will most certainly be calling on your knowledge from time to time. The tutorials and things work fairly well, but it's just not the same as being shown what to do.

Glad you like the icons!
