I figured out how to make icons.

And I just wasted THREE HOURS doing just that.

Why didn't anybody tell me macros were a gateway drug graphic? Why?

After my first few attempts at iconizing were a success, I decided, in celebration of the new Liz Shaw community

[profile] legsofscience (which wins my vote for Best Community Name in the History of Ever), to direct my icon-making efforts towards Miss Shaw. So...underneath the cut are ten Liz icons, including variations and some Liz & Three, one Evil!Brig icon and variations (that took a million zillion years to get right), a One, a Delgado!Master, a Seven, and a Five/Turlough. Note that these were done solely with Microsoft Photo Editor and Open Canvas. They're pretty plain, and have no fancy textures/backgrounds/etc, because I don't know quite how to use those yet. All image edits, such as the text in the Brig icons, were done by hand.

The real fun's gonna happen when I cut loose on my CSI: Miami picture archive, and start color-filtering and gamma-tweaking with wild abandon on Miami's already ridiculously saturated color pallate.

Take what you want, but please credit if you do.

ETA: Four more - three Three/Liz and one Three & Brig (mostly the same type of icon). Because I'm addicted.

ETA: Four more. Also, I don't know why Liz is in red and the Doctor's in blue. They just looked good that way.

Notes:
1-3. The image these came from was pretty grainy, but I liked the effect it created, so I opted against fixing it.
5-7. Come from the prettiest picture of Liz ever.
11-12. Text: "You won't feel the bullets."
14. I'm sorry. I know it's all grainy and messy-looking, but I couldn't not make an icon of that.

Enjoy!

Maybe now I should do some actual work.

Ooh, do share over at [livejournal.com profile] legsofscience! We could use the activity. ;)

Woohoo icons! :D One of these days I'm gonna teach myself to do them properly.

Done and done!

It's not really that difficult (okay, I'm lying, it is) - just time-consuming. Hence the three hours of silliness.

Oh those are *lovely* cropped. I still have seen hardly any 3rd Doctor so I won't be snagging any, but all the same, job well done.

Glad they turned out okay! Getting the right crop at the right size without it looking smushed or wierd at 100x100 was the hardest part; playing with the coloring was much more fun.

Speaking of icons, I cannot get over how adorably smug the Master looks in yours.

Macros as a gateway drug graphic...hee.

But they are! You start out with simple captions, and then you start thinking, "Hey, some of these screencaps would make really spiffy icons! I wonder how I can do that..."

And then next thing you know, it's three hours later and you're getting cross-eyed from squinting into your image editing software. GATEWAY, I tell you.

5-7: I agree. That's the one pic I have autographed and hanging on my wall.
One of my treasures. :)

Convention, long time ago.
(1998, to be precise, when I admitted to her that Liz was my first childhood crush at the ripe old age of 4...)

Well, I've got a house meeting at 6:15 that should be over by 7-ish, and dinner before that...but I've already done my reading for class tomorrow, so after then I'm good.

Wanna see if we can either watch them with Kaylie or borrow the DVDs? I have to tell you that Paul McGann isn't in the first several. But they are still quite good, and yummy. Check out my new icon!

I like this plan. Shall I stop by your room after house meeting?

Hee. Icons involving that quote will always be a Good Thing.

(COMPLETE OFF-TOPIC COMMENT WARNING!)

My beloved used record store has s.1 of Fraggle Rock for sale for $30 +tax. Worth buying?

I'd say YES YES DO IT RIGHT NOW, but $30...*thinks*

...Is actually pretty good for a whole season of a TV show. Go for it!
