I find it amusing that I've come to the same conclusion about robotporn, but from a very Doylist perspective. :P

As in, I don't care if it makes sense or not - it's canon that they show affection in physical ways. There's lots of hugging! There is at least one canon kiss I remember, Ariel kissing Orion... on the cheek, yes, but right after they established them as a couple. And sure, they don't need to have sex for biological reasons, but listen to Rattrap for five minutes and it becomes really clear that they do something. XD

(And, really: why are we expecting a cartoon about giant space robots to make sense? I feel the same way about femmes. They probably don't have genders in the biological sense, no, but there are robots who identify as male and robots who identify as female. And I like that because it means girls get cool female characters to identify with, too. And now I've gone on a tangent.)
