I read this twice because...wow, some of that imagery is just beautiful.

Just before she falls asleep he plays with a lock of her red, red hair, his fingertips just missing the skin of her cheek. She doesn't reciprocate, doesn't even open her eyes, but she does smile.

I love the way you've written them - so close and yet so distant at the same time, both thinking they understand exactly what this is when it's far more complicated than they'd like to admit.

I'll admit it - I love any Liz/Brigadier fic - but when it's this well written, who could resist?!
