I know, right, I can actually sit down and put together a post instead of sneaking one in when I'm supposed to be working. Because I'm NOT SUPPOSED TO BE WORKING. Ha! I'm still getting used to that.
(Though technically I only have time because I'm staying up late because I spent all day packing and should really be doing my resume right now, but oh well.)
It occurs to me that I've never actually made a proper introduction post. So, a rather belated welcome, new folks from the friending meme, and a renewed welcome to old friends as well. Feel free to ask any questions if there's something you want to know (whether fannishly, Real Life-related, or logistically i.e. how long entries tend to be, spoilers, etc), but other than that...yeah. This is my journal. I write things in it.
1. So I was watching TV with my parents yesterday, and apparently the penultimate NCIS episode of the season was on. So I figured, sure, even if I really don't know what's been going on this season, surely I can figure things out from here.
And for the most part I could, but what also came to my attention was an ad for the season finale of The Mentalist. Now, for the most part I have mightily resisted the urge to pick up another show, particularly one that already uses the same gimmick as a show I already like, but this trailer reminded me why I still watch it when it's on: Simon Baker is really, desperately attractive.
This was particularly noticeable because near the end of the trailer Patrick Jane is tied to a chair with cling wrap, looking disheveled and scared. And his hair is doing wonderful things.
And because I'm a slightly pathetic person, my first course of action was to track this trailer down on YouTube and start capping. And since I know there are at least a couple of Simon Baker fanciers on my flist, I thought I'd share the fruits of my efforts even if it's only four pictures.

Mmm, curls. /shallowness
2. On the subject of said NCIS finale...well, predictably, as it was a tie-in to NCIS: LA, I wasn't all that aware of what was going on, other than that It's Personal This Time (true to season-finale form). However, there was one line in particular that I found interesting on a rather meta level: When Ducky talks to Gibbs about the NCIS agent's murder, he remarks that the killer is trying to get to Gibbs specifically. As he says: "It's not about her, it's about you."
Which, when you think about it, pretty much sums up in one line the whole idea of the Woman (or Childhood Friend, or Love Interest, or Hometown) In The Refrigerator: Not even the character's death is about them. It's about him. The other (usually female) character's own life is About Him.
And the fact that the line was just brought out so completely unexamined makes me a bit sad.
Somewhat less seriously, ABBY. Oh Abby sometimes I forget how wonderful you are and then I remember again. Finally making Gibbs talk about Shannon and Kelly by locking him in the lab? Love. I am not sure how I feel about her offering to cover up evidence from an ethical standpoint, but from a character standpoint I love that she still had that conflict and addressed it honestly.
Also, oh my wee Gibbs/Abby shipping heart. I was half-expecting my ship to suddenly become canon right then and there, and I'm not sure how I'd have dealt with that. Not in a dignified manner, I expect.
3.a. Apparently Peter Cullen is returning to voice Optimus in the upcoming series Transformers: Prime. And The Fandom Rejoiced. (On a completely silly note, by the way, look at his mustache. That is the mustache of a MAN.)
You know what would be amazing, though? If we could somehow have Peter Cullen, Gary Chalk, David Kaye, and Neil Kaplan all doing voices in Prime. I don't care if their respective agencies make that impossible, I want it. They could have themselves an Optimus-off and I would probably squee myself clean out of existence.
Of course, now that more announcements regarding Transformers: Prime are being made I must ask the obligatory question: Who do I have to bribe/threaten/offer sexual favors to to get Elita One in TF: Prime? How much more extravagant do those threats/favors have to be to get her in for more than one episode?
3.b. However, on the subject of robot ladies, TF: Prime is supposed to be somehow tied to the upcoming War for Cybertron, and not only is Arcee in that one (and looking badass, might I add) but there's the distinct possibility that Slipstream might be in it, and that means that she might be in Prime as well, and that means I have to go dance about and throw confetti now.
Sure, War for Cybertron does have a create-a-character mode, so it's distinctly possible that the Seeker at the end of the trailer is just a customizable body mold, and even if that is Slipstream they can't possibly include every character from the games in the animated series, and besides Slipstream's whole existence is based on the cloning plotline in Season 2 of Animated, so unless WfC Starscream is also into cloning himself (not impossible but somewhat convenient) I'm not sure how they'll justify her existence, but you know what? I don't even care. She can be his sister this go-round or something. There's a possibility that not only will Hasbro be acknowledging that Animated existed, but SLIPSTREAM. I cannot be unhappy about this.
3.c. And in a final bit of Transformers news, reportedly Alan Tudyk has been cast in Transformers 3. (How many people are even in this movie? I mean, there are going to be some robots in it too, right? Sheesh.)
...crap. Crap. Now I'm obligated to go see this thing, I have to go see everything Alan Tudyk's in in the hopes that he'll start getting more substantial film roles and TV series that don't get canceled! Crap!
Fine, Bay, you win. This time.
4. Even though the only Supernatural episodes I've seen have been before the introduction of Castiel I seem to be well on my way to becoming a Misha Collins fan. No, I don't know why either. I think it's the fact that F!S seems to be abundant with amusing macros of him.
5. The Glee Cast version of Bad Romance is almost as addictive as the real thing, although it jolts me right out of the song every time they sing "freak" instead of "free bitch". I get that the FCC is hanging your head with a hammer, FOX, but that's a whole syllable that drops out of the line every time you make that replacement. It doesn't bloody scan, okay.
The version of "Dream On" with Neil Patrick Harris, however, is so gorgeous it darn near makes me weak in the knees. It helps that I love the song already, but their just both such forceful singers and they don't sound like they're rasping on the high notes and eeeee. :D Even if I don't watch the show, I'm so glad it exists so it can keep giving me lovely music.
6. And I still haven't watched all the new Doctor Who (though I might be rewatching the first two Eleven episodes with my Dad and that thought makes me warm and fuzzy inside) and now TGWTG is having their two-year-anniversary supercrossover fiesta and I can't watch either because I'm not supposed to spend too much time on the computer. Fandom is so stressful sometimes.
And on top of that I need to go to bed an hour ago. Good night, flist.

You'd think I would eventually run out of ways to talk about how much I love "Dream On," but no! Because I am, naturally, playing it right now, and experiencing chills. They both have the most gorgeous voices. And as often happens with songs I only vaguely know by chorus, I was delighted to discover that this had magically lyrical verses. The performance clip is even better in context, so I firmly believe that you should go about watching this episode post-haste, even if you have no plans to take in the entire series. (...then again, the quality level would only spoil you for further episodes anyway)

I only knew this by the guitar riff for the longest time, and while I like the original I think the song actually benefits both from having two people sing it and from having less rasp on the falsetto section; it sounds less strained on the high notes and they both have a really, really good high voice. And they both convey such intensity and force and I just love it so much I want to give it a hug.
Given that FOX tends to strike down YouTube performance clips of Glee so soon as they're uploaded, it probably would be not only better but even easier for me to see the entire episode. Also, I am really easy for anything Neil Patrick Harris has ever been in, so. To watch Glee I go!

b) I've only been watching Transformers G1 for the past few weeks (have never seen it before) and haven't seen the Bayverse movies, so by all accounts, I shouldn't be excited that Peter Cullen is coming back as Prime. And yet I am. I really am.
c) Misha Collins saved Supernatural for me. I never got that attached to Sam, so by season 3 I was losing interest. Until Castiel. Mmmm~
d) TGWTG!! \o/ "Kickassia" is hilarious to me but according to the comment pages for it, I might be in the minority? WHO CARES. It's adorable. I hope you get to see it soon!

Abby is one of my favorite characters in anything, ever, and I adored her here, all assertive and compassionate and conflicted. Can we please have an Abby Show spinoff? I'd watch that.
b) I didn't grow up with G1 and have...mixed feelings about the Bayverse, so like you I shouldn't be as excited as I am about Peter Cullen coming back. But...he just is Prime. That's Prime's voice, and it's authoritative and comforting and vaguely paternal and grown men squee when they hear it, and that (especially the last bit) makes me happy.
It helps that, from what I've seen of him from convention videos, he's a pretty cool guy, has a good sense of humor, and seems to like the fans and especially the role, which is always nice. Also I heard he wants one of the trucks they used for Prime in the movies, which makes me giggle.
c) I shied away from Supernatural because of the very public fandom drama, but what I did see of it was interesting but not something I could see myself being fannish about. But there's something about the sheer fannish silliness surrounding Misha Collins that just gets me. I'm a big fan of silliness. It helps that Castiel has lines like "God isn't on any flatbread"; to be honest I'd be all over Supernatural if it were a comedy.
d) I can't imagine a six-part whole-site crossover not being fun. The people in the comment pages are obviously just wrong. :D And people like Film Brain, Cinema Snob, and Lee are getting some spotlight, which is my favorite thing about it. I mean, I love the Critic and Linkara and the Chick as much as anyone, but it's nice to see some of my other favorites get some love. Now if only they could get the guys from Bargain Bin Horror in there...
Anyway, I still haven't got a chance to see it yet since we've got all kinds of nonsense going on at my house that needs to be prepared for, but at least now that Part 6 is out I can watch it all in one go and I won't be held in suspense.

I OFFICIALLY LIKE THIS SERIES ALREADY. ♥

6. How much have you watched?
(no subject)
6. I've only seen three thus far - the first two episodes of Eleven's run and "Vampires of Venice", which was the latest episode broadcast on BBC America. So I've still got some catching up to do, mostly because I have the episodes but haven't had the spare time to watch them with all the packing and unpacking I've been doing. But now that I'm almost completely unpacked I should be able to see what I've missed!
(no subject)
Depending on how the finale goes, I may have to just give up the show because it's getting to where the stress is about to outweigh the enjoyment. Michael Ausiello (the EW.com TV spoiler guy) has been dangling a blind item about an out-of-nowhere pregnancy in a series finale for a couple of months now, and NCIS was one of the show candidates. I found out last night that it was actually Gossip Girl (which I have never watched) and I was so relieved I could have cried.
(no subject)
See, this is why I only watch reruns. That way by the time I ever see a plot development it's too late to get mad about it. And ugh, can I just talk about how much I hate pregnancy as a plot device in TV shows? Hate it, hate it, hate it. I've never seen a show that handles it well, it always comes across as a cheap ratings grab, and it always involves a whole episode devoted to pushing and screaming and gruesomeness. I wish I could ban TV pregnancies.
