Me: So, I really must insist that you all watch Umineko no Naku Koro Ni with me.
J: Isn't it a sequel to Higurashi? I'm not done with Higurashi yet.
Me: It isn't related; it won't spoil anything.
R: Isn't that the one where the naked guy gets torn apart by jackals?
Me: ...well, yes, sort of -
R: I knew it!
Me: But it's really good! And the jackals thing doesn't even happen until later!
R: WHY ARE YOU ALWAYS MAKING ME WATCH THESE FUCKED-UP THINGS.
Me (and J): Because they're fun!
R: A guy gets torn apart by jackals!
Us: ...morbid fun!
Me: Besides, you can totally see the jackal thing coming and have time to look away.
R: How would you see something like that coming? Why would I ever expect a guy to get ripped apart by jackals?
Me: YOU JUST DO.

Later that evening, J, Other J, R and I are discussing the Nostalgia Chick's "Smurfette Principle" video:

Me: So eventually she gets to Transformers and Elita-One -
R: Who's Elita-One?
Me: Optimus Prime's girlfriend. Anyway, she -
R: ...His what?
Me: Girlfriend.
R: He doesn't have a girlfriend!
Me: Yes he does! *joking* What's the point of being the leader if you don't get a little action?
R: That's not canon.
Me: Is too. They even call her his girlfriend in the episode.
R: I don't believe you.
Me: Look, I'll look it up. *opens TFWiki, goes to Elita-One's page* See?
R: ...what.
Me: Why is that so hard to believe?
R: Because they're robots! They shouldn't have romances!
Me: They shouldn't be able to turn into handguns either, R, why are you insisting on scientific rigor now?
R: ...
Me: Also she's kind of his sister.
R: 8O
Me: >:D

Speaking of these two fandoms, you all wouldn't shun and/or refuse to speak to me from shame if I maybe doodled crack fanart of Animated!Optimus and Blackarachnia dressed as Battler and Beatrice on my notebook margins? Oh good, I just wanted to make sure.

...it made some kind of sense while I was drawing it, anyway.

Bwahahaha, this entire conversation made me laugh SO HARD. "How would you see something like that coming? Why would I ever expect a guy to get ripped apart by jackals?" Heeheehee! Please tell R that they are my favorite person in the entire world right now.

I'll be sure to let him know. :D The thing is, this is the guy who'll play zombie video games with all the lights off, and yet he can't fathom the idea of violence in a cartoon. O hai, R, did you see what those dogs were doing to your player character? Yeah. XD

But the "naked guy torn apart by goat demons" part is one of the finest in the series! I only wish the "naked guy used as a footstool" part had made it into the anime, but such is the way of the universe.

I know that, you know that, even J (who is used to Higurashi and all its murderous grade-schoolers) knows that, but some people just don't understand.

aaskojsajd I must fix up my computer so it'll play the VN now. Such images must not remain in my imagination. :D

Heh, unfortunately that particular part--and all of the nudity, really--is merely described, not shown. The art is mostly static poses of the characters with different facial expressions. (Battler does get the OBJECTION! pose, but most of the others just stand still all the time.) The devoured-by-goats thing, though, is almost creepier that way--you'll just have to wait and see. *g* Also, the VN takes crazy-long to get through the first round, because it bothers to give background and personality to all the characters. Just thought you should know.

Yes, but it's *there*. It actually happened in the canon. That is a luxury I am not used to.

I like the sound of that, actually. I quite like the cast; it'd be nice to have an opportunity to get to know them better before half of them get their heads caved in. Also that means that they payoff is better when people do start getting killed. There is emotional impact and such!

Oh, there's some very interesting canon, to be sure. :D If power dynamics are your thing, then hoshit is this the series for you...

Indeed! Not to spoil, but there are some relationships that greatly benefit from being given actual backstory, and the adults in general are much more interesting when you can remember their names. Another bonus of the VN is the music--the anime has the same stuff, of course, but it's quieted down to make room for the dialogue, whereas in the VN the music and occasional sound effect are all you get, and it's much more effective that way. I may or may not tend to dance in my seat whenever the Battler Has Actually Made A Good Point theme starts playing. >.>

Oh, god, it's so true! Whenever I have to explain the concept of fandom/fanfic, people just look at me very oddly, and I never even get to the part about slash, het, and gen. And forget trying to explain a particular fandom to other people.

...now I kind of want to see that doodle, just because.

This is why I have never, ever tried to explain fandom to someone who didn't already know what it was (well, except for that one time). So much of what fandom and fanfic are are just self-evident to me that I'd have no idea where to start explaining anything.

I just hope I am never called upon to explain why I've drawn a robot-spider-lady in an elaborate dress alongside my bio notes. It'd take some doing, I'll tell you that. XD I'll see if I can photograph it.

Because they're robots! They shouldn't have romances!
... every time I hear/see someone say something like that, I get the mental image of Wall-E's puppy eyes. :(

Exactly! And did anyone not get warm and fuzzy during the "define: dancing" sequence? No. No they did not. And that was between two robots! So bah, I say.
