My thoughts and prayers are with all the students and victims of the shooting at Virginia Tech. 

Remember when we were young enough to think that anywhere was safe?

[EDIT] So...so nobody even sent out a warning e-mail until TWO HOURS after the first shooting? While the gunman was still in the building? And they didn't go into immediate lockdown?

And then the White House pipes up with "The president believes that there is a right for people to bear arms, but that all laws must be followed"?

What. Just fucking WHAT. 32 people are DEAD, and the very first thing our government does is try to hold off the gun-control lobby at the pass, because that's what's important.

Everything sucks.

I remember those days, I think they were shattered by the slew of violence in the past decade...and now this...

Last I heard, the death count is ambiguous, the networks are reporting 32, including the gunman, while Tech is reporting 22. The Prez of the US gave, and might still be giving, a briefing, starting at 4:30 about this, that might reveal more, I haven't caught it, i'm in the library now

They do there, that's where I heard about the breifing and all that, it was up when I was running some copies for work-study. Also, apparently some of the Tech students posted blog entries during the crisis, while they were locked down in the building, I dunno if any of those might be on LJ or not...
