Also, someone please tell me why I never end up liking the Big Popular Pairing What Actually Has Fic in any fandom I get into. It would make my life so much less frustrating if I could just ship what everyone else ships for once.

The really sad thing is this appears to hold up even in cartoon fandoms where the characters are robots who don't have skin. A and B are voiced by white guys; C and D are voiced by black guys. Between A/B, A/C, and A/D, guess which one has more fic. No, go on, guess.
Granted I have no objection to A/B (not into it, but whatever), but there you go.

Join the club, this happens to me quite often. *facepalm* The real reason I wrote all that Ian/Barbara fic a few years ago? Because I couldn't find any.

That's as good a reason as any! Heck, one of the reasons I write fanfiction at all is to fill in gaps in the existing fanfictional landscape. Though considering that Ian/Barbara is EU canon and they have their whole lives ahead of them for things to happen in, it surprises me that there isn't much more fic about them.

I shipped Bob/Dot quite strongly at first too, when I first got into the series in high school. Though the season 4 wangst kinda soured me on the pairing... I do still ship them, though. But nowadays it's more the cute, bantery season 1-2 Bob/Dot than the later relationship.
To be terribly honest, I'm probably more of a Dot/Mouse shipper now than I am anything else. One episode of arguing, then they suddenly clicked. And once they did, they were barely out of each others' sight for the rest of the series. :D

It's quite frustrating too. You haven't enough time to read them all, most of them are not the characterization you're searching for, and you've got this nagging feeling that you've never found the better ones...
I like some kind of middle ground for my pairings. :-)
And, since we're in it, my fannish questions : what would you like to see more in fanfic world ? Can be pairings, genres, themes, tropes, maybe listing a few fics-I-always-wanted-to-read-but-never-found, with details.
