Is it ridiculously self-absorbed, or simply Not Done, to post meta to a general fandom comm? I don't see it very often, but I'm also not in very many general fandom comms; from what I can tell it's more commonly linked to on a fandom newsletter if there is one, directly from one's journal.

Thoughts?

Check the posting rules on the general fandom comm you want to post to: if they don't specifically outlaw meta, I say go ahead and post away.

Doesn't say no to meta, though the fact that there doesn't appear to be any other meta posted there ever makes me somewhat nervous, but I suppose I can go for it.

Um... I have never quite figured out what "meta" means, and I'm curious. What is meta? (And why would one not post it on a general fandom comm?)

Meta is thinky-thoughs about a show, book, whatever. It's where you talk about characterization, plot holes/plot threads, what the events of a certain episode mean in the larger context of a character's overall arc, certain themes that the show/book/movie's been exploring, stuff that would be in-universe but isn't shown onscreen, that kind of thing.

I have a meta blather tag (http://stunt-muppet.livejournal.com/tag/meta+blather), for examples' sake.

The only reason I can think of not to post it on a general fandom comm would be that I haven't really seen many other people do it, so I'm worried it'd come across as "my very important Thoughts On Yaoi (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=but+what+are+your+thoughts+on+yaoi%3F), let me show you them".
