Do you realize that the Brigadier has no character tag on AO3?

Seriously. I typed in almost every variation on his name I could think of and nothing came up. Which means that either someone forgot him on the character tags or there isn't enough fic about him up there yet to merit him getting his own tag.

Either way, I think that's just wrong.

So, yeah. Have spent a lot of time in which I am supposed to be reading Cymbeline uploading stuff to my AO3 page. Pretty much the only thing that isn't up there is Memory, because I tried to add character tags for the Brig and Benton, realized there didn't appear to be any, came over here to complain, and then realized that it was almost one in the morning and I still wasn't even done with Act One, oh criminy. Possibly I will upload it later tonight when I inevitably get bored and tired, which I wouldn't do if I didn't put things off for a ridiculously long time. Rrrgh.

Of course, after that I have to decide which of my Law and Order drabbles, CSI: Miami fics, and miscellany should go up on the archive. I'm not actually ashamed of most of them (except for the fact that some of my Miami stuff is embarrassingly fluffy/syruppy even by my standards, and I feel no shame in owning up to Staying so that's saying something), but the L&O stuff is all really short (which feels strange and insufficient now that I can't write anything less than 1000 words) and the Miami stuff is...well, does anyone on AO3 like CSI: Miami? I'll have to check, but if no one else there is going to read about my candy-colored guilty-pleasure show, there's really not a whole lot of point putting it there except for completion's sake.

One in the morning. Must work now. Goodnight, flist.

[ETA] Although it does brighten my mood considerably to know that Robert Lindsay apparently played Jachimo in a BBC production with Helen Mirren as Imogen. Most relevantly, during this performance he has a rather dashing beard and is, at some point, not fully dressed.

I'm not normally one to find scenes like Jachimo's appealing (the scene where he sneaks into Imogen's bedroom is even more uncomfortable than it sounds), but I think I would have to make an exception here. No principles, none at all.
Mood:: 'annoyed' annoyed
Music:: and now it's stuck in my head, help.

Thank you! I thought because nothing came up in the "characters" field when I started typing his name, there wasn't a tag for him, but I guess it just didn't show up for whatever reason. Also, I'm relieved to find I used the right variation on his name for the tag. :)

...sorry, my brain stopped working at undressed Robert Lindsay.

He's playing a completely perverted, very discomforting character and I normally can't bring myself to like characters like that, but I read the lines in the play and imagine him saying them and...brrr. I'm so confused.

CSI:Miami! Love of my life! Tragically neglected by fandom! (Yesyesyesyes upload!)

But what I really stopped by to say is that I'm a tag wrangler (among other things), and it's all a fairly manual process, so if you don't see a pre-existing tag (or if you don't like the pre-existing tag or you think it's wrong), please go ahead and upload anyway with whatever character/fandom/etc. tags you want. In some cases, we've been pre-populating fandoms with tags, but only some of us do that, and I personally am more likely to do so if 1. the total number of important characters in the source is really small and 2. I'm pretty sure everyone is going to spell their names wrong or call them "Bob" instead of "Bob [really distinctive last name]". (Coding-wise, we're still working on handling ambiguous names.)

But our main activity is wrangling tags users have already used. When someone uploads a fic with a new character tag, that tag shows up in our list of un-wrangled tags. Assuming the name is unique (i.e. not "Bob"), a wrangler will add it to the appropriate fandom. Then we'll either mark it as the canonical version of the name or hook it to the canonical version so it will sort together with that.

What's happening with the Brigadier is that other people have uploaded fic with him, but no wrangler has made his tag "canonical" yet (maybe because it's a huge fandom and people are still discussing how to handle it?), so he's not showing up as a suggestion when you enter tags, and you can't filter by him, but you can still do a text search. (It's currently like delicious tags--you can search on an individual tag someone used, but that will only get you that exact spelling and format. If we make the tag canonical, we can attach misspellings or unusual variations to it so you can search for all of them at the same time. Canonicals also have advantages like telling the archive that "Jane Smith" is related to "Jane Smith/John Smith", but I digress...)

Oh thank god, someone besides me! *jumps for joy* Though I suppose I should finish some of those year-old WIPs before I post them, ahem.

Ah, thanks for clarifying the tags for me. I figured that tags for every character wouldn't exist this early, but I thought the names that popped up in the window were those of all user-created tags; now that I know they're the canonical tags that makes things a lot clearer. Thank you!

Super H! \0/

I really can't understand why it doesn't have more of a fandom fandom. It's certainly popular enough in general...

Sunglasses so powerful they create their own theme music. :D

It has the least of a fandom of the three shows, from what I've seen - not that either of them have much, but NY and Vegas get more fic. Possibly because both NY and Vegas at least pretend to be dramatic sometimes whereas Miami's gone in more of a "Screw realism, let's blow something up" direction, so the sort of fans who'd fic for the first two don't get inspired by Miami? I don't know.
