FUUUUUUUUCK.
Ahem.
*furious scribbling*
So this post is not entirely pointless: Our film studies class watched Devdas today in the evening. I'm not a regular viewer of Bollywood movies, so it was an interesting experience - the main impression I took away from it was that is was a whole lot of movie. It was very long, and there was a lot of movie packed in every minute of it. Oh, and that Shahrukh Khan is really pretty. As is Aishwarya Rai, but I already knew that.
I'm not sure if I just have shipping goggles on too tight, or if the plot itself annoyed me, but I kind of want to write fic for it. I mean, I shouldn't; there's a whole culture there that I can't even grasp and even trying to via fic would probably be offensive and approach cultural appropriation. And yet I can't help but think that the movie would be so much more satisfying if the two women competing for Shahrukh Khan resolved their differences by running away together and saying screw their societal standing and love interest, he doesn't deserve them anyway. And Shahrukh in turn finds happiness and spends his remaining days with his perpetually-drunk fun-loving friend in the red-light districts - hey, said friend is the only person besides his love interest to get him involved in a dance number! Surely that means something!
I'm too ashamed to check to see what the Bollywood fandom is like.
(Also I think I like romance scenes better when the leads in question aren't allowed to kiss. Things have to get much more metaphorical.)
