Flist, I need you to do me a very, very important favor.

I need you to come over to my dorm and tie me to this chair until I cease to be tempted to sign up for Yuletide. Ignore all my protests to the contrary.

I've managed to resist the shiny, shiny lure of Yuletide for four straight years now; I don't know why it's suddenly so tempting. Maybe because I've had such an unproductive writing year this year? Maybe because I've already taken the plunge with NaNo Lite and I signed up for the [livejournal.com profile] dw_femslash ficathon which I conspicuously didn't last year on account of how I fail a lot at ficathons? Maybe I'm tired of failing at ficathons? Or I went and did [livejournal.com profile] who_remix and managed not to fail at that so I am feeling all swaggery and overconfident? Or I'm finally realizing that my best stories are the ones written under deadline pressure, time restrictions, and/or blind panic?

This is another thing where I'm not sure I want to be talked into or out of it. Although I skipped out on my NaNo wordcount yesterday, so that's really not a good sign.

Oh, and then there are those trivialities like schoolwork and mocking up a resume and having a life. You know, those.

I'm not sure what makes me feel more badhorriblewrong as a person - the fact that I'm seriously considering listing thatguywiththeglasses.com as one of the fandoms I can write or the fact that if Classic Who RPF or Dr. Steel was one of the fandoms requested I would sign up without a second thought. Oh fandom, you've warped me so. :(

Advice?

Post of some substance to happen soon, I promise.

DO ITTTTTTTT

YULETIDE IS THE BEST

FOR REALZ

This year I only offered a really small # of fandoms since i am so time- and I hand-crunched but requested lots of femslashy goodness or at least girl power! I love Yuletide. I got Biggles fic and Corner Gas fic and TSCC fi and Cherry Ames fic over the last 3 years. I had a bit of wank last year but it was my own fault and so this year just am requesting/offering fun tiny little fandoms.

If I can do it with a baby who wants to be held 99% of the time (I am typing this one-handed!) then you can do it, rah rah rah!!

but but but you're a way more disciplined writer than I am, mainly because if I had a bebbeh who wanted to be held all the time I can't imagine going anywhere near the internet until it could walk. :( And I'm already doing a ficathon and I probably won't be able write much after I go home for winter break and and and...

Fuck it. I can always back out. *goes to fill out form*

"my best stories are the ones written under deadline pressure, time restrictions, and/or blind panic"?
OK.
Pick a timeslot when you can be online uninterrupted.
People post prompts.
See how many you can fill in one hour.

I've been trying to do similar things - writing a single fic in a set period of time, or using Write or Die - but I hadn't thought to request prompts rather than working on extant fic or using stuff from [livejournal.com profile] prompt_party. Thanks for the suggestion!
