nanananananananaBATMAN!
...so, yeah, I spent most of today watching Batman.
Surely this is a sign of a misspent life and wildly mislaid priorities, but when I get a job and stuff I probably won't be able to indulge in evenings full of Batman anymore, so I may as well do it now, right?
Anyway, so that this didn't feel like a complete waste of time, I thought I'd take a few screencaps and make a picspam for you, mostly on the topic of why Aquaman is awesome, why Batman/Aquaman is completely plausible and you should ship it too, and why Blue Beetle III is adorkable. Caps are mostly raw, and a few come from Veoh/Dailymotion, where the little pause icon in the middle of the screen won't go away; sorry for that. Caps are located here if you feel inclined to use themto make icons and are from the episodes "Rise of the Blue Beetle!", "Mystery in Space!" , "Night of the Huntress!", and "Journey to the Center of the Bat!".

This is Batman: The Brave and the Bold's version of Aquaman. He's basically the antimatter version of his JLU appearance, much more cheerful and boisterous and prone to making his voice spontaneously echo. And to writing his memoirs.

He also occasionally talks directly to the camera (though not at the viewer, as he's monologuing), leading to my own personal pet theory that he's the only one of all of them who realizes he's in a camptastic Silver Age pastiche and is playing it up for all it's worth.
Also...

...he hugs Batman. This probably makes him the only person to have done so and lived.

He's...not the deepest thinker among the Brave and the Bold crew, but he makes up for it in sheer enthusiasm for the superheroing life and just about everything else in the show.

For instance, his reaction to the Atom appearing through the phone is to clap him on the shoulder and boom "Outrageous! Do it again!"
But Aquaman isn't always so cheerful, which is how I get round to shipping him and Batman. The beginning of "Mysteries in Space!" sees him moping on a beach, singing "the sad song of the sea, as interpreted by the beluga whale". Basically, speaking whale. But sadly.

He even refuses Batman's offer of an adventure with Adam Strange! Something must be gravely wrong!

Batman asks what's bothering him, and he dodges the question. But not before drawing a sad face in the sand with his foot. Dawww.

Batman is puzzled enough by this to insist he come along, if only to snap him out of his mood.

But Aquaman does little on the mission but sulk, ask when they can go home, and make pronouncements like "All is lost!".

He doesn't even punch with his usual enthusiasm!

Adam Strange eventually asks what the hell his deal is...

...whereupon Batman takes him aside for "a moment alone" and asks him what's wrong.

It turns out Aquaman is depressed because he failed to save some beluga whales from whalers, and feels that their deaths were a consequence of him not taking himself seriously. "It wasn't a daring exploit or a heroic adventure. It was a tragedy, and it was my fault."

"You know it wasn't." And again I saw awwww.
Aquaman hasn't quite snapped out of it, but then Adam Strange starts to despair when the conqering aliens (who, incidentaly, have his wife held hostage) acquire a doomsday weapon...

...to which Aquaman responds with "What has gotten into you, man?!"

He then stands on a rock and gives a rousing speech (complete with "While there's life, there's always hope!" and, in response to the assertation that they're outgunned, "So? We don't even use guns!") encouraging Adam to step up and be heroic even against impossible odds, because dammit, man, that's what superheroes do.

Batman seems rather pleased to have the old Aquaman back.
And then there's some business with stealing Earth's moon to block the sun on Rann so the solar-powered Doomsday Device will crash, somehow without casuing any damage to the Earth's gravity or tidal forces because when you're that super, the laws of physics are your bitch. And the episode ends with Batman and Aquaman watching Adam Strange and his wife Alanna kiss while Aquaman recites the title for this chapter in his memoirs in an echoey voice. And I walk away shipping them, because, you know, I do that.
The other character I find myself attached to is this show's version of Blue Beetle III, Jaime Reyes.

Jaime is something of a Batman fanboy. Yes, those are Batman posters all over his room.

Batman is mildly creeped out by this.

At the start of the series, Jaime already possesses the Scarab that makes him the Blue Beetle, but he can't control it very well, and his suit tends to just do stuff without him having much say into what it does. But most of the time, he makes it work just long enough for him to Kick Ass.
"The Rise of the Blue Beetle" is a very fun and very funny episode, so I recommend watching it yourself if you can; it's a good way to get introduced to the series. So instead, I'm going to use this picspam to show off the many expressions of Blue Beetle.

"Jayne Jaime, you wanna tell me why there's a big statue of you here lookin' at me like I owe him somethin'?"

This is his victory dance when his suit functions long enough for him to score a temporary victory.

And then there's the episode where he develops a rather inopportune crush on Huntress.
And so, in conclusion, go watch Batman. Because it's a whole lot of fun, that's why. And it has Blue Beetle making funny faces. And only 9 fics on FF.net, so, you know, you should look into that and all.

Sorry. That's probably the lager talking.
I love your posts. :)

This Aquaman is kind of an emotive guy okay (which is one of the things I think I like about him, but hey). Watching the brutal harpooning of his underwater friends is very distressing! :(
I'm glad someone else enjoyed this post; I worry my Batman squee is turning off people on my flist or getting annoying, so it's nice to know I didn't just set this up for no reason at all.

This show is MAGICAL! And now I know what to do today. (I've been sick all weekend and am going insane with boredom. This is guaranteed to cheer me up!)
I'd only seen the Huntress ep and the MusicMeister ep, so now it's definitely time for some Aquaman.
