And no real reason to be so, other than I appear to be unable to sleep at night until about two hours after I go to bed. Not cool.
For one week, recommend/share:
Day one: a song
Day two: a picture
Day three: a book/ebook/fanfic
Day four: a site
Day five: a youtube clip
Day six: a quote
Day seven: whatever tickles your fancy
One of these days I'll do a proper fic rec post with all the stuff I've read and loved organized neatly by fandom and such, but for now, here are four:
Venusian Lullaby, by
eponymous_rose . A quiet scene between Three and the Brigadier, in which they communicate, in their own sideways and dysfunctional way, and without saying much at all. Recced because every single time I read it it makes me cry, so you know it's doing something right. ;)
Scenes From The Domestic Front, by ellisbelle. Four/Sarah from the Cliche-Swap Ficathon, with the two of them stuck in WWII-era London. The story is told in vivid, beautiful fragments, perfectly fitting the two of them, and alternates between sweet and sad and mysterious.
Round the Prickly Pear, by elliptic_eye. Double-drabble, Simm!Master/Doctor/Lucy Saxon. One of the first fics I ever read in this fandom and still one of my favorites, with stunningly surreal imagery and a beautiful way of reconciling the "drumming" mentioned in The Sound of Drums with the Doctor's and Master's history.
Morning Tea, by Primsong. Another quiet, poignant scene, this one between Three and Jo just before The Three Doctors. Given the silliness of the serial as a whole I think it's easy to forget just how significant the ending is to all the characters involved; this fic highlights it, as well as the melancholy that's always under the surface during the Third Doctor era and the subtle, complicated, but caring relationship between the Doctor and Jo.
If you liked them, please go leave the authors feedback and tell them so (and kindly do not point out how bad I am at that myself). And one of these days I really will assemble a fic rec post, I promise.
Also, I shall take this opportunity to quietly self-pimp and quietly direct you all to Sentencing once more. *cough*
