The
who_remix authors have been revealed! As was probably somewhat obvious, I wrote The Strength To Hold On (The Halley's Comet Remix) (all 6,600 bloody words of it, which is sort of unbelievable to me), which is a remix of The Strength to Let Go,
atraphoenix 's Liz/Martha fic but told from the perspective of Liz instead of Martha. It's the longest one-shot I've ever written and God help me if I ever spend that much time inside one character's head again. It's exhausting. I really must investigate this new-fangled "ominscient third-person narrator" concept.
Despite my whining and last-minute frenzy, I had quite a lot of fun writing this one;
atraphoenix 's story is amazing and poignant, but I couldn't get over the fact that save for the Year That Never Was Martha didn't really have to wait for Liz; she could find her whenever she left the TARDIS. Liz, on the other hand...I mean, forty years is a long time, and that's a huge part of her life she was letting go of for Martha. It's really the opposite emotional development that Martha had in the story, and I thought their two stories complemented one another nicely. Anyway, I'm glad I decided to participate this year, and despite the hair-tearing and cries of I HATE FICATHONS I'M NEVER DOING THIS AGAIN I think I might just sign up for more next year, especially since the remix of my own fic (by
agapi42 , by the way, go tell her how amazing it is) was a thing of beauty and greatness and made me go like this: :D :D :D
However, perhaps next year I'll learn the valuble lesson of "Start writing before the thing's due in a week so it doesn't take up your vacation time", heh.
Anyway, I have two questions:
1. Because I suck, I 've read most of the remixes but have been terrible about leaving feedback to them, except for the one written for me because there's being an exhausted lazy fuck and then there's being rude. I know a lot of people are linking directly to the stories posted on the Remix comm, and for them I'm going to leave feedback on the Remix comm, but those of you who are posting to your own journals or fic comms, would you rather recieve comments on your journals or on
who_remix ?
2. I posted my story unbetaed, as I was already a day past the deadline (though
eponymous_rose 's and
livii 's help was absolutely invaluable, and I'm sorry I didn't say so on the fic post but I was a dink and thought we weren't supposed to post our betas or anything because that'd give away who we were and it didn't occur to me that the mod would excise them. I'll try to fail less hard next year. D: ). I've already caught a couple of errors in re-reading it, specifically a few repeated phrases and a tense switch (why do I always accidentally switch tenses? You have no idea how many times I caught myself doing that while writing; lucky for me that I only missed one), but more generally I think the fic could be about 1,000 words shorter.
I'm still debating whether or not to cross-post it unbetaed, becuase once I correct those errors the rest of it seemed to work out okay for people, and if I do cross-post it it won't be the same fic I posted, but I feel bad about submitting unbetaed fic to ficathons, or submitting unbetaed fic in general. Plus, if I get it betaed that means I probably won't fix and cross-post it until after I get back from school, whereas cross-posting as-is = instant gratification, and you know how I'm all over that.
So. Um. Does it need beta-ing? (Stupid question, of course it could use it, but does it need beta-ing badly?) If I already asked you about beta-ing, can I still send it to you?
So that's that. I think one of these days I'm just going to take a whole day and devote it to commenting on fic. It'll be useful.
Back to work.

1. Either! Well, push comes to shove, probably my fic journal. But really, leave it wherever you'd like. (If you liked mine, that is.)
3. Not badly, no :)

I did love yours; it was sweet and heartwarming and all tied together at the end. I'll be sure to leave something more detailed when I comment, but don't worry, I liked yours a lot.

I noticed a few small errors, so if you do want it betaed, I'm still happy to do that for you, but if you don't, no worries.

Thanks for offering! I've corrected most of the mistakes I found myself, but if you wouldn't mind giving it a look-over I'd be really grateful. I'll send it to you today or tomorrow, as I'm quite exhausted and I may not make it through work, yikes. D:
