Pinched from
calapine : People I Ship the Doctor With. This was rather a difficult list to put together, as it would be much easier to list the people I don't ship the Doctor with. I'll read Doctor/almost anyone if the fic's good. Maybe not Doctor/Susan. Or Doctor/Jenny. I'm oppressive that way.
But I decided to leave aside who I'd read and go more with the couples I actively ship, the kind where I point at the screen and go "look look they're looking at each other that is obvious solid canonical proof that they're totally doing it".
1. Cameca. Because it's quite canon, you know, and I like to think that at some point one of his incarnations went back for her and she became a proper traveling companion and it was lovely.
2. Steven. I never said it had to make sense. And they do have rather a lot of arm-grabbing going on. And the Doctor was all sad and lonely and introspective when Steven threatened to leave. Don't make fun of me, okay, I kind of just like shipping Steven with people.
3. Vicki, sort of. Mostly I think of their relationship as that of the indulgent grandpa and the adventurous granddaughter, but occasionally I'm a bad person and anyway ambiguously-paternal relationships between people who aren't actually related are my guilty guilty kink.
4. Jamie. I do not think anyone doubts this. Also, the mere existence of Season 6B means that most of fandom is aware of the fact that had it not been for the Time Lords Jamie would have never left so there. No matter who else I ship the Doctor with after that I think part of his heart(s) will always belong to Jamie. Also, clinging. And groping of Jamie's sporran.
5. Liz. Normally I like this best as part of a Three/Liz/Brigadier trio of hotness and awesome, but I'm amenable to the concept of Three/Liz. I can't help it. They're totally flirting to pass the time. And I do think the Doctor loves her, though in a selfish and immature way, the kind of love that doesn't really recognize that the other person has needs, too. And despite herself she has a bit of a soft spot for him but not enough of one to put up with him when he's being a git. Also I'm pretty sure he was looking at her tush that one time.
6. The Brigadier. I can interpret their relationship as ambiguously paternal, especially during Three's tenure, and the complicated power dynamics between them in the early days are just delicious. And then even after they get over the power struggles and straining against one another's authority they have this wonderful friendship that still isn't entirely easy but lasts through the rest of the Doctor's lives and they just get each other more than anyone else really does. And it's all very sweet in an understated sort of way.
Though what I would really like is fic where they share awkward emotional moments and are both really bad at it. Please produce some of that, fandom.
7. Jo. 'Cos they hug and cling and tug on each other's sleeves and she helps him get over his stuck-on-Earth angst. Also after reading far too many fanfics it has become my fanon* that she's his part-time dominatrix. I mean, she's kind of a sweet domme who doesn't do the heavy stuff, but not all dommes are into bullwhips and verbal abuse, dontcha know.
*Just because it's fanon doesn't mean I actually think it happened between episodes, though. My definition of fanon is flexible.
8. Benton. The Doctor has such a sweet spot for him and Benton will disobey any order if he thinks the Doctor needs his help. And the Doctor likes his coffee which obviously means they are in love. I sometimes ship Yates with the Doctor but not with quite the same frequency.
9. Sarah. I'm not sure whether I like them better as ambiguously romantic BFFs or as an actual proper ship but either way they balance each other out nicely and have this wonderful playfulness to them, though I think I might be alone in liking Four and Sarah as much as Three and Sarah. Also, Four has this tendency to flip out when Sarah's in danger, which I like.
10. The Master. Three/Delgado!Master is my favorite because I'm much more of a buddy-shipper than a rival-shipper or enemy-shipper and they're the closest Doctor/Master ever gets to that even though they in no way qualify as buddy slash, which I also like. They both want and even need the other in the worst way and enjoy each other's company far more than they'd like to admit and I kind of think both of them are getting off on the high-stakes games they play with each other, and on the ensuing stalemates. Also Three/Delgado!Master is one of the only D/M pairings where anyone writes the Doctor topping, or at least has written it more than, like, once.
11. Leela. Mostly because Leela is stubborn and fierce and independent and doesn't listen to Four at all, which is kind of what he needs. And it'd be hot. That's my argument, really.
12. Romana. All of her. Because...well...it's Doctor/Romana. It might as well be textual. Also I love watching her and the Doctor match wits and be intellectual and just spark off each other like a couple of eccentric academics in love and unaware of the world. I'm not so crazy about post-War Doctor/Romana but that's just because I'm a little burned out on Time War fic at the moment. Surely that'll change later.
13. Adric. Stop that, I warned you I liked ambiguously-paternal ships, and there are so many complex issues that go with Four's regeneration into Five and the paternal relationship getting pulled out from under him and Romana leaving and...you're judging me. I can sense it.
14. Nyssa. For some reason I think Five and Nyssa complement each other really well, and have a kind of understanding that I think Five needs given his conflicts with his other companions. I feel like if I watched more Tegan and Turlough I would ship them with Five, but Five/Nyssa struck me right away. Plus, see above re: friend-shipping vs. rival-shipping.
After that point I haven't really watched enough of the episodes or read enough of the EDAs to know if I ship anybody else with the Doctor in the Five-Eight era (though I'm tempted to include Iris in this list but I have only read a bit of her canon, so I shall resist), so I'll skip to New Who:
15. Donna. I am amenable to shipping him with Rose and Martha, but the Ten/Donna relationship is so much fun I can't resist it. I feel a bit guilty for shipping them since Donna wasn't supposed to be a love interest and I feel bad taking that away from her, but they're exactly the kind of pairing I like - could be friends or could be lovers, call one another on each other's faults but get along just dandy most of the time, stand by each other in times of crisis, etc.
16. Lynda-with-a-y. BAD WOLF ROSE TOTALLY BROUGHT HER BACK WE JUST DIDN'T SEE IT.
Those are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head. I'm sure as soon as I hit "post" I'll think of a bunch of others involving one-shot characters that I forgot, such is life. And even if you didn't see a character mentioned here, there's a good chance I either sort of passively ship them or would at least be open to reading fic about them if it was good, so hopefully I am not oppressing you all too hard.

8) Totally unrelated, but you started talking about Mike and then I thought of Planet of the Spiders and then I thought of Sarah and now I'm having other thoughts...um.
11) BUT SHE'S HIS UNRULY BABY SISTER. I cannot get it out of my head. They exchanged two words and it was cemented.
12) I wish I could get more into them. (Or maybe I just want to wish so?) I really, really, really crazy ship them in the Power of Kroll. Other than that, my reaction ranges between "I see why others see it and I recognize the canonicity" and "I wish I'd gotten to see them before hearing so much about the shipping getting transposed on them because right now I'm looking and I'm seeing an estranged father and teenage daughter coming to terms with each other and you put the two ideas together and I'm A LITTLE FREAKED."
14) EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
15) Ten had a pseudo-crush on her for sure. Though she probably would've punched him in the face if she knew anything about it.
(no subject)
Personally, their moment in the middle of Curse of Peladon is the one that reliably makes me warm and fuzzy. She teases him about acting all important and he calls her princess and why isn't this story on DVD yet omg. :D
8) If this meme asked me about all my Doctor Who ships, Mike/Sarah would so be on there. It makes me a bit sad that we didn't see any more of him after Planet of the Spiders.
11) I know, I know, but I kind of ship them anyway. I can't help it.
12) I used to really, really not get the Doctor/Romana thing, and I still don't ship them quite as enthusiastically as, say, Two/Jamie or Three/Jo or Ben/Polly. But watching more of the Key to Time arc and early Romana II (because the first I saw of Romana was the E-Space trilogy, and by that point she and the Doctor are going through one messy, drawn-out divorce) helped me see it a little bit more, and I really like the bickering and battles of wits that go one between Four and Romana I. Plus I think they're the couple that most likely happened offscreen; for all that I adore the ships I listed I'm pretty sure most of them aren't canon per se. Except for the ones that are.
15) Ten just looks so smitten with her in The Unicorn and the Wasp; I had to ship it, even if he's way more into her than she is into him.

11) For a brief moment near the end of Horror of Fang Rock, I could see it. Then they went back to being siblings.
"Move over!" "MOVE OVER--" "That's enough."

Seven: IS THERE FIC LIKE THAT? I'd enjoy that. :D
(& what does it say of me that as soon as I read two, I THOUGHT OF FOUR? I'm so far gone when it comes down to Two/Jamie. I love it.)
(no subject)
7. THERE IS. Sort of. In most of the fic I've read where they do the sex, Jo takes the lead even if she isn't actually dominating. I suspect that's mostly because it makes the age difference a little less skeevy-looking, but there's one fic on the kinkmeme where Jo finds the Doctor tied to a chair and...ah...leaves him that way. *ahem* It was awesome. I'll see if I can link you to it once I get off work.
Also I am maybe writing something like that but I am deeply ashamed of it and it will probably never leave my hard drive....I am not sure how you made the cognitive leap from One/Steven to Two/Jamie, but whatever works for you. :D
(no subject)
It most certainly is. & yes, there were a few tears & massive sadness after it was over. ::clings to Victoria:: I'm glad she's happy & it could have been so much worse . . . but I didn't want her to leave either.
(& it's totally okay! I know you've been WAAAAAAY busy & your back is healing up, so it's all good! You can drop a comment on any of them whenever you can. :D Plus, at the end of every set, I post links back to the others. ^_^)

I actually quite LIKE the age difference between Three & Jo - I just like older gentleman/younger girl relationships overall, so I'm not disturbed by it at all - she's pretty much the ONLY companion I can ship Three with happily. (Jamie doesn't count, because I ship him with all of the Doctor except One, Nine & Ten.)
& ASDFGHJKL;LKJHGFDSA I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO READ THAT FIC PLEASE & THANKYOU. ::tries not to look like a creepy little lady & smiles:: If you could link me to it, I'd quite adore you!
& uh . . . YOU SHOULD WRITE IT. I think you'd do a good job! Better than me, anyway. :D...I am not sure how you made the cognitive leap from One/Steven to Two/Jamie, but whatever works for you. :D
I think it's because male companion that grabs onto the Doctor often = Two/Jamie in my mind. Hell, if you'd said Five/Turlough, I still would have done the same. :P

Oh, I certainly don't mind it myeslf. A lot of my favorite ships are between two people with a large gap in age or authority, but part of the thing I like about those ships is that the younger person in the relationship (often a woman, but a lot of my slash and femslash ships work that way too) is often the assertive one, the one pursuing the relationship. That way it doesn't look like the older person is taking advantage of them or anything; the subtext of power and authority kind of balances. Of course, it helps if the older person is the sort of decent human being/Time Lord who *wouldn't* take advantage of a young lady/man, too.
Ta da! (http://community.livejournal.com/sizeofthatthing/3359.html?thread=2510367) It was...um...actually one that I requested, because I figure if you can't be an awful, awful person on the kinkmeme than were can you, but I never thought it'd actually get written. More or less made my day when I saw it posted. :D
But I know nothing of kink! Not really! And I've already posted Three/Jo smut; I'd look weird and obsessed if I did it again. And please give me more excuses to write it because I know I'll end up doing it anyway. :DEven though neither Five nor Turlough is particularly grabby...though I suppose Turlough does call out for the Doctor fairly often, I suppose it's sort of the same thing. XD
(no subject)
EVERYTHING YOU SAID. The only GOOD thing about it is that I got a Jamie/Victoria idea from it, amidst the total sadness. (but it's kind of born out of that sadness, in a way. Alas.)
& o, SO many of my favourite ships are like that as well, though usually, & I never thought about it til now, the younger one isn't the assertive one, generally, but I think it's just because I've never thought of that until you mentioned it. I do believe I'll keep this in mind for any Two/Jamie I may write. Um, 'MAY' being the operative word here.
ZOMG, THAT FIC WAS GREAT. It was hot, funny & fabulously in-character, I thought. THANKYOU FOR BOTH LINKING ME TO IT & REQUESTING IT. :D :D You have made me a VERY happy girlie.
I should maybe go over there & request some Three/Delgado!Master/Jo fic - WHERE IS IT, REALLY. Or maybe just some Delgado!Master/Jo fic, 'cause I'm twisted like that. :POMG, YOU WOULD NOT LOOK WEIRD & OBSESSED. I'D BE OVER THE MOON IF YOU WROTE MORE! I want more & there just isn't enough out there! THEY'RE CHEATING THREE, O.M.G. & um, all I could offer you is my undying happiness & promises to pimp it out if you wanted me to & rec it like CRAZY. :DEven though neither Five nor Turlough is particularly grabby...though I suppose Turlough does call out for the Doctor fairly often, I suppose it's sort of the same thing. XD
Hee - the verbal version of Two/Jamie, perhaps? :P
(no subject)
I just think about my ships too much. :D I mean, in the case of Two/Jamie, he's not exactly the one pursuing the relationship unless he's written that way in fic, but he's a strong personality in his own right, freely disagrees with the Doctor, and is capable of initiating some sort of action on his own, which I think is key - especially in a relationship like Doctor/companion, where one partner has so much power.
WASN'T IT JUST?
There's already a request for Three/Jo/Delgado!Master, actually - and it's a request for the pairing without dubcon or noncon, which makes me extra-specially happy because while I love the threesome I am squicked very, very hard by noncon. I'm not sure how one would actually go about writing it without making a really long AU, but I do keep on trying. And there are two open requests for Jo/Delgado!Master! And one that's already been filled! Truly the kinkmeme is a glorious thing.I keep telling myself that - there's nothing to worry about, there are people who write stacks of Ten/Rose smut or Doctor/Master smut and no one thinks they're weird and obsessed, why would anyone think that of me? But the fact is that there's a lot of other writers for those pairings, and while there's porn aplenty for Three/Delgado!Master (and most of it's actually good) het smut involving Three is very nearly a nonexistant thing and it'd mostly be lil' old me and I'd get a reputation or something. Possibly I will post it under flock one day; putting it out there, even if not everyone can see it, might help some of the anxiety, and eventually I'd get up the nerve to post it publicly, maybe. (That was far too long a paragraph for me to strike out.)
the verbal version of Two/Jamie, perhaps?
Well, Five is a much less grabby person than Two in general; it makes sense. XD
(no subject)
Agreed with doubly! I only know maybe two or three people that actually WRITE some kind of Jamie/Victoria & when I go looking for it, it's almost impossible to find. So I might as well write a bit myself, you know? (I just hope neither of them such as much as I think they will. Eeep.)
I mean, in the case of Two/Jamie, he's not exactly the one pursuing the relationship unless he's written that way in fic, but he's a strong personality in his own right, freely disagrees with the Doctor, and is capable of initiating some sort of action on his own, which I think is key - especially in a relationship like Doctor/companion, where one partner has so much power.
All very true, of course! But I think that's what would be so nice to, well, set the stage for Jamie being a bit more dominant in fic - it would be rather a nice change of things.
& I just like the idea of Jamie being all dominant. Why lie? :PIT MOST CERTAINLY WAS! O, kinkmeme. NEVER STOP HAPPENING PLZ. ::dances::
You know . . . maybe I'm just not looking hard enough, or I've let my brain be eaten by Two/Jamie, but I can't really remember FINDING any nice Three/Delgado!Mater smutty fun, I really can't!
& if you'd worry about getting a bit of a reputation for dealing out the Three!het (which would NOT be a bad thing, ever!), then I think I might end up with the Eight!het rep, since I write him with Sarah Jane & on occasion, Romana. (I um, just haven't shared it anywhere.)
Possibly I will post it under flock one day; putting it out there, even if not everyone can see it, might help some of the anxiety, and eventually I'd get up the nerve to post it publicly, maybe.
That sounds like a good strategy, I think, though usually, I'm all in favour of people sharing their uncommon ship fics. But I suppose I should try that with some of my things - maybe my Jamie/Victoria stuff, if I'm still all panicky & nervous about showing it elsewhere.
Well, Five is a much less grabby person than Two in general; it makes sense. XD
HEY, I GOT SOMETHING RIGHT FOR ONCE! :P YAY ME.
(& speaking of Two/Jamie & Five, have you read
