1. Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] eryaforsthye!

2. DAMMIT, LJ, Scrapbook has the most bleeding unhelpful interface I have EVER SEEN. I think I just deleted about half my images, but the nutty thing is I can't even tell for certain. And setting up galleries should not be this difficult, augh.

3. Apparently, John Levene is going to be at Gallifrey One this year. This is in addition to all the other guests, including Wendy Padbury, Frazer Hines, Colin Baker, Nicola Bryant, and PAUL FREAKING CORNELL. Why do I not have the time and money for this, why why why.

One day. One day I will have a convention attendance to my name. I feel like there's this whole huge slice of geek culture that I'm missing out on, and everyone I know who's been talks about how fun they are.

4. Memes, because they're fun (this one stolen from [livejournal.com profile] kindkit ): Name one or more characters from any of my fandoms, and I'll tell you every pairing I've ever written them in, read them in, or even just thought about.

That's all for now.

Wow, Gallifrey One is right in my backyard. Maybe I can wrangle something last minute for Saturday. O___o

Okay memery... in honor of John Levene's presence at Gally, how about favorite pairings for Benton?

Go for it. I always here amazing things about Gally after it closes - it's still the biggest U.S. DW con, I think, and the panels are usually supposed to be at least entertaining. Also, JOHN LEVENE. And FRAZER HINES. And PAUL CORNELL. :D

For some reason, I always think of Benton as harboring a quiet crush on everybody. I haven't written him yet, except in Memory, which is genfic (but I shall!), but I've read Brig/Benton, Benton/Yates, and [livejournal.com profile] livii's Sarah/Benton, Jo/Benton, Harry/Benton and Sarah/Harry/Benton (I only name hers specifically because I've never read those pairings from anybody else); but out of all of those Sarah/Benton and Brig/Benton are probably the ones I'd be most likely to write myself. I absolutely ship him with Three (he just trusts him sooo much and looks sooo proud when the Doctor compliments him!), but I've never been able to find much of any fic for it. And, for some reason, I love the idea of him with Polly - if there were one pairing I'd break up Ben/Polly for, it'd be Polly/Benton. She'd flirt with him over drinks one night and he'd be a perfect gentleman to her and she'd be so spirited and vivacious he'd take right to her. :D

Hee hee, I know the circuit of SF cons from birth. The only thing between me and Gally is transportation. I told Paul Cornell at last year's WorldCon how much I liked Scream of the Shalka and he was a bit boggled. He always looks rather worried-- especially after he just lost the Hugo to Moffat-- I wanted to give him a hug. :3

Now I think I will go read Benton fic when I get home. Excellent! By Memory, do you mean The Memory Always Lies, because I do hope you return to that awesome premise some day. All in good time, of course.

Seriously, I think one year I'll just up and move to California. Temporarily, probably, but that's where all the good cons are!

Conveying my own love for Shalka is one of the reasons I want to meet Paul Cornell. That, and to argue a bit with him on the Time Monster daisy vs. the rose in the Human Nature and Timewyrm novels, although doing so would mean I'd have to, you know, read them first, which I've totally already done, ahem.

And yes, that's what "Memory" refers to. And I've been working on it periodically since then, but I've run into this problem where Chapter 2 will not *end* already. But I've only got a couple scenes left to do, and I did a bit of work on them today, so hopefully I should get Chapter 2 up before a bleeding year passes. :P

I feel like someone else has worked on those pairings too but can't remember, which leads me to some small amount of embarrassment if I'm the only one who has, um, gone all Benton-tastic on the world like that, heh. I'd actually completely forgotten I'd ever done Jo/Benton and had to go look and remember, oh, right! A ficlet for them! Hee.

...I've written Benton/Rose too, but I'm not the only one who's done that! Doyle did it too when writing in a ficathon for me damnit.

In conclusion: I love Benton. :D

Eeek, I forgot about the Benton/Rose! Foolish of me. Although I didn't know Doyle'd written any herself, so now I know where I'm headed next, thank you much. :D

And, hey, there is more Benton-fic in the world because of you, which is something to be quite proud of because the man just doesn't get nearly enough ficcish love. So go you!

Oh my god, it is the most epic, wonderful, amazing fic of all time! It has Benton/Rose AND Martha/Harry and K-9 and a neat AU turn and the Brig and and I will let you read it for yourself, hee. As Ordinary Things Often Do aaaaand now I have to go read it again for possibly the eight hundredth time. :D :D

I went on a huge Benton kick at one point, if you can't tell. I still love him but I tend to be fickle in who I fic frequently, so lately it's Hex, heh. I loved going back to Benton for the Sarah/Harry/Benton one, though. I do want to write another Rose/Benton someday - I actually ship it even more than Martha/Harry - only it's easier to write Martha/Harry because they are in the same flippin' universe, hee.

Thanks much for pointing me to it! I've got it bookmarked and ready to go when I'm not supposed to be doing Ecology reading!

I do the exact same thing as regards fic - focusing on one character at a time, rotating my focus occasionally, that sort of thing - so I know what you mean. And besides, that means more Hex-fic and more Hex-fic =/= bad thing. :D And yeah, Rose's storyline sort of eliminates any of the convenient narrative gaps you can fit fic into, unless it's fic in the alt!verse. Why don't the writers' think of the fic when they write these things, honestly? :P

2. Ack! I had thought it might be easier to use than Flickr. Obvs. not.

3. *petpetpet* No hurry - whenever you get the chance. I only got to my first convention - a Gallifrey - last year.

Funnily enough, for those late-staying Gally types, Levene did actually make it to that Gallifrey - but only because people were gathering at the Marriott for the fan-cruise, which he was taking part in.

4. Jo Grant.

2. Nope. No way to display images without opening them separately, organizing images is a pain, and designing and organizing your galleries requires having a chart already put together of where you want everything to go.

Maybe I'm just doing it wrong, but it's terribly confusing.

3. Thanks. And I'm sure - well, I hope - I'll be able to go at some point, but I am impatient. :) It cracks me up that there's a fan *cruise*, however. I think that's next on my list after going to a convention.

4. Despite only writing her in one ship (Jo/Three) I ship Jo with quite a lot of people - I've read Jo/Benton, Jo/Yates, and Jo/Rose, and was writing the latter for someone's Fandom Stocking before I ran out of time. My random crackships for her are Jo/Victoria and Jo/Jamie; I think she'd be so good to Victoria as she learns to adjust to her new life and new time (how they actually meet is, er, never quite clear), and Jo/Jamie...well, it could either be very angsty (the Doctor gives in to temptation and fetches Jamie and Zoe out of time, and it's Jo that a very confused and somewhat angry Jamie turns to - because the Doctor who retrieves him isn't the Doctor he knows) or very fluffy (Two and Three travel together again during Season 6B and Jamie and Jo gang up to tease their Doctors whenever they do something stupid), but either way I think it'd be very cute.

I've read a lot of Liz/Jo, and while I kind of ship it on principle, for some reason I'm just not feeling it the way I do Jo/Victoria. I don't know why. And I'm usually quite okay with Cliff/Jo, the novels notwithstanding; after all, she got the Doctor to behave himself, so Cliff should be no problem, right?

Let's go totally random and say: Catherine Willows.

Ah, CSI fandom. :D While I tried shipping her with Grissom and have read some fic to that effect, I'm not feeling it all that much; I like them better as partners than as a couple. I ship(ped) her with Warrick while he was still on the show because I thought they absolutely sparked off each other even after he got married, and I still ship Catherine/Greg because I can't help but think that Catherine has an excellent dominatrix lurking somewhere in her soul and you know Greg would be all over that. (Lady Heather's comments in Slaves of Las Vegas might have had something to do with that particular ship.) I kind of shipped her with Keppler while he was around, but since I kind of figured he was going to die I never got attached enough to him or the ship. I thought she and Horatio Caine had good chemistry in the CSI: Miami pilot (which was, conveniently, long before I became annoyed with Horatio and the Miami writing team in general), and for some reason I've never been able to figure out I think she and Ed Green from Law and Order TOS would be awesome together. No, I don't know how I arrived at that conclusion either.

4. Jack Harkness, because I know what at least two of your answers should be and I will delight in reminding you should you forget. >P

ADRIC AND SARAH. AND DONNA. Did I get it right? Oh, and the Ten/Jack/Liz/Martha foursome. That too.

Although, for some reason, since then I ship Jack/Sarah kind of hard.

Anyway, as I've still only seen that wee handful of Torchwood, I'm not sure what I ship there yet (except Jack/Ianto and Jack/Tosh, because I trust your judgment about these things) but...see, Jack's funny in that I'll read him with just about anybody, and there are very few ships with him in them I actively dislike (I'm sort of turned off of Jack/Ten since so much of it is really, really bad), but there aren't that many ships with him in it that I seek out, either. The ones I'll go looking for are probably Jack/Sarah, Jack/anyone at UNIT (because they're all so repressed, the darlings, and I kind of want to see him team up with UNIT while he's stuck in the 70s and have them all go on adventures together even though I know he was working for Torchwood at the time. Wasn't he?), Jack/Donna (they'd get along so fabulously), and Jack/Four (no idea). And probably still Jack/Adric, especially if you wrote it. :D

But I'd not say no to the Jack/Ten/Liz/Martha foursome, either. :D

That con sounds EPIC. There's no way I can go, but I'm starting to really regret that, whereas before I was more "eh."

Doesn't it, though? I mean, I'm normally sort of resigned to my inability to do conventions, but the guest list for Gally just keeps getting more awesome. This is the first year I'm actually depressed about it. :(

3. Grah, I wish I could go too.

4. Jamie, Jamie, Jamie...

3. Frazer Hines. Doing panels. With Wendy Padbury. I am partly dead from the anticipated awesome.

4. I'm kind of stupid OTP-ish for Two/Jamie, I'll just admit it - it takes a bit of mental navigation for me to ship either of them with anybody else, especially in a serious fashion. But I've read Jamie/Victoria as well, and I do think Jamie loved her (he just loved the Doctor more), and there've been a couple really good Ben/Jamie fics I've read (including a Ben/Jamie/Two). I kind-of ship him with Polly in a "I'd read it but I haven't found any yet" kind of way, and (as I mentioned in the reply to [livejournal.com profile] brewsternorth's comment, there are circumstances under which I could ship him with Jo.

Oddly enough, I can't ship him with Zoe; I like their dynamic so much better as friends/surrogate siblings.

Stupid OTPish for Two/Jamie is good, I think. And I'm with you when it comes to Jamie/Zoe - they're my absolute favourite companion duo, but I can't see their relationship beyond that of siblings.

One day I, too, will go to a con, and be drunk throughout and not give a fuck about any of the fandom politics going on. Then I will make 20 new LJ friends. :)

From what I can tell, that's what mostly goes on at cons anyway. Except that some people sober up for panels. Sometimes even the panelists sober up for panels. :D
