Aaaaaaand the internet exploded. Predictably, but rather messily nonetheless.
Mah thoughts onyaoi the Eleventh Doctor, let me show you them:
He's Matt Smith, apparently.
And he's a baby. Seriously. I don't know anything about Smith as an actor, but I'm freaking the fuck out about the Doctor being only a few years older than I am. I'm used to the Doctor being older than I am by at least a decade if not two or three. Wee Baby Time Lord is screwing with my head.
However, other than that, my outlook is a hopeful one. I haven't seen him in anything, so I'm reserving judgment and hoping to be pleasantly surprised. At the very least, I think his youth lowers the chances that he'll play the exact same character type as Ten, since he'll have to distinguish himself from his predecessor somehow. And while an older Doctor would have been nice, my desire for an older Doctor was a subset of my desire for a different Doctor, and if it's a young different Doctor, well, I can deal with that too.
We'll see, she said, stroking her chin thoughtfully. We'll see.
Now will someone please sweep up the bits of internet from my floor? Thanks.
(Also, as my family's going to dinner way earlier than I expected, I'm afraid this'll have to be another drive-by post. Replies to come when I'm home again.)

Think how you'd feel if he were thirteen years younger than you!

Which is going to make it hard for me to take him seriously, I have to admit, but then there are very few Doctors I can take seriously all the time. :D

Anyway, I...um, like his hair in the main imdb picture? I don't know this person. Trying to find stuff to say other than "he looks a little scary." But maybe looking scary is a good thing for the role. Except he's scary in a weird-looking kind of way that is not remotely attractive to me, but perhaps this is also a good thing? Looks not eclipsing all other criteria.
I'd have been waaay more jittery than the really jittery that I already am if Robert Carlyle hadn't recently been revealed to be working on the new Stargate show and therefore taking himself out of the possible running.
THAT BASTARD.Too famous for a series role, my foot. But damn, 1982. o0 I could reach out and get my hand stuck in 1982. All I can do now is cross my fingers and go "ooh, he's an odd number Doctor, those tend to turn out well with me." ...when I toyed with the idea of Jesse Spencer, I never thought it'd happen, certainly not for years, because he's just so little, and this dude's even younger.
I've burst into giggles now. Good sign; I'm getting used to it.

I can't decide whether Smith looks like Crispin Glover or David Boreanaz. It's bothering me, but the Crispin Glover thing is making me really anticipate his inevitable Scary Time Lord moments. Because, you know...Crispin Glover.
I'm not sure I find him attractive yet. I'm sure I inevitably will, but at the moment he's sort of cute in a floppy-puppy way. It makes me want to scratch him behind the ears and give him treats. Which is probably not what Moffatt has in mind, but there you go.
I'm taking some comfort in the knowledge that Twelve is now REQUIRED to be a fiftysomething. YES HE IS. I will hear no argument on this point.

And I was discussing elsewhere how Eleven being a grumpy old man would be a fabulous constrasting personality to his appearance. So it really has to happen, yes. Nouveau One, yay!
I started out considering him decidedly the least attractive I'd yet to find the Doctor, and...while that's still true, once I saw him in motion in the interview rather than still shots it helped out, until the floppy puppy image worked itself into existence.

This would cheer me immensely. Also, Eleven = 11 = two Ones. So we're obviously going to get a Hartnell-like Doctor. The numbers don't lie!
I had the same reaction to Smith at first, but hey, eventually I learn to find all the Doctors attractive in one way or another, even if a couple of them get stuck at "cuddly puppy" for a while. And a lot depends on the clothes.

Just what I was thinking! XD

Its really very weird. I do not think I'm going to be able to suspend my disbelief that much.

Hmm.

Screwing with your head? This guy is my brother's age. Practically to the day. In fact, he's FIVE DAYS YOUNGER than my brother. Waaaaay too effing weird. I can only hope Moffat is doing this in order to really mess around with things, i.e., pair him up with an older man (Sherlock Holmes or Watson, in my fangirly dreams) as companion or something.
I just kinda wished they hadn't announced it so early. Tennant's going to spend his last year as the Doctor as a lame duck!
