Dammit, naps are supposed to last longer than that.

Anyway, I've got a whole bunch of writing memes set aside for once ficathon season is over/I finish up the undone writing memes I've still got/I have less schoolwork, but that never seems to actually happen.

And, since I have a feeling I've got another long night ahead of me, I'd like to humbly request that you provide me something to distract myself with at periodic intervals throughout my studying, because if I try to work on the ficathon pieces I'll end up spending all night on them and the whole "hurrah, you've completed two annotations! Have another Who episode!" doesn't work so well with essays.

Give me a pairing and I will write you a sentence or two (possibly ficcish, possibly discussion-ish) about the characters' love for each other. Whatever I write will be all about the happy stuff -- no breakups, no angst, no irony. It doesn't need to be a romantic/sexual pairing, either.

It's dark, and rainy, and gloomy outside, and I'm feeling the need for some happy, aren't you?

He's used to keeping secrets. That's how they started, really. The mole in the lab. The gambling. They've learned to trust each other before anyone else.

But he doesn't really realize it until the evening when they're sitting on the couch together, doing nothing more hidden than watching TV. And Horatio laughs, easy and calm.

And it occurs to Ryan that he's never seen him that relaxed before.

Roger looked up from the script, incredulous. "A speedboat chase?"

"Why not? It'll be fun."

"Jon, you know how I feel about boats."

"I know, but..." He adopted a slightly pleading look. "Well, you'll have a life jacket."

"I'll have a BBC life jacket."

"Look, I promise, if you fall off, I will come round and rescue you myself."

"Comforting," he sighed. "I suppose if it's already written in..."

"You're a sport, Roger," he laughed, clapping him on the shoulder.

"You're welcome."

...I hate myself. :(

Asgard is more beautiful than he remembers. The sunset turns the sky deep gold and bronze, and the breeze clears paths through the evening heat.

They assembled their picnic all over the galaxy; champagne from the far markets of Hyspero, fresh fruit from Deva Loka, chocolates from Pavaada. They've crisscrossed galaxies just to sit here under the open air, because what fun's a destination without a journey?

River pours him another glass of champagne, and they laugh as night falls.

"I don't care how safe it is, Doctor. There's naught holdin' it up but a string and I'm not gettin' on it."

"It's not string, Jamie, it's a cable; it's much stronger. There hasn't been a rope break on one of these for near twenty years."

"Still awfully little t'be carrying something so big, if you ask me."

"Jamie, you are just as safe riding in a cable car as you would be in a taxi. Now do hurry up, there are people in line behind us."
---

It was perfectly safe, of course, and the view was fantastic, just like the Doctor said it would be. But Jamie figured as much; people wouldn't keep riding cable cars if they were really that dangerous.

But he liked the argument, all the same.

I don't have a pairing for you-- ok, yes I do. Jamie and the Cybermans from The Moonbase.

I just wanted to let you know that my brother watched all of Torchwood S2 (no reason for you not to, now!) and is asking questions about how TW fits in with NuWho. The family is watching the first half of The Sea Devils tonight (at my urging, natch) and John is asking questions like, "Which Doctor is the one with the fro again? What number is Jamie's Doctor?" and suchlike. I am so very proud. ^_^

Jamie and the Cybermans from The Moonbase.

Every Cyberman was once human. Every Cyberman's brain is built from a human base.

Even after the glands and chemicals responsible for emotion have been surgically removed, Cybermen can still recognize fear, and pain, and sickness.

Cybermen do not pity. But they can exclude a weak and sickened specimen, and leave the boy on the bed for another day.

The things I do for you, Kayliesaurus.

There is the small matter of the people with the Torchwood DVDs not being here anymore and all that. :/ But I'm glad your brother is expressing an interest! More people to geek out at is always a good thing.

And how did they like The Sea Devils? I must know.

She giggles at him as she slips off his shirt. "I figure you'll need it, anyway," she says, with a sly smile. "Six months at sea and no girls in sight, you poor thing."

She teases him and laughs all the way through, but at the end she takes his hand in hers and says, quietly, "I'll come find you when you get back."

Six months later, he gets off his ship and finds that she has.

You know, if you want to, you can request something you'd rather see. Don't have to ask for something just because you think I'd like it.

Not that I'd object if you really would like to see the Doctor and Jo, of course.

He's only going along with her because of the crowds, he says. Not that he has any interest in a magic show of all things, I mean, really, they could have gone anywhere in the universe - to the edges of existence itself - he could have taken her to meet Harry Houdini even if she liked - but no, she just wanted a magic show.

No, he's only going along with her because there's a swarm of people gathered to watch Houdini escape from a box underwater, and he wouldn't want her getting lost.

But when Houdini resurfaces and waves at the crowd, she glances at the Doctor, and catches him grinning.
