I got my lab all finished and turned in today, had nothing due tomorrow, and planned to spend a leisurely day writing today in order to recuperate a bit from the lunacy that the past few weeks have been.

Instead, I ended up watching The Fifth Element with [livejournal.com profile] rhia_starsong, who'd never seen it. She enjoyed it, naturally, and agreed with my sentiment that it was what the Star Wars prequels really should have been/were trying to be, but that wasn't the reason I got no writing done.

No, I got no writing done because I tried to hone my GLaDOS voice by listening to the Hellfire Commentaries Portal Playthrough. It actually helped, because you get to hear all of GLaDOS's lines in context; indeed, my GLaDOS voice might slightly have the edge over my Zoe voice at this point, sad to say. Plus, the commentaries were actually a bit funny; they're two British geeks chatting through the game and showing you how to solve the puzzles, and while they're occasionally crude they also made me giggle rather loudly quite a few times.

And then I found that they also did a playthrough of Sonic Adventure 2: Battle for GameCube. Which, shamefully, I loved the hell out of back in my 16-year-old days. I think there was some sort of objective level on which I knew it wasn't very good, because seriously any game that sticks Tails in a clunky, barely-mobile mecha for his stages is up against it to begin with, but I just loved it to pieces. I may have even written AU fic for it but it is not with pride that I admit that.

And then one of them made a commentary on how awesome the music for the Golem boss was. Which made me remember that, yeah, actually, it was. I mean, it was electric-guitar-heavy nineties-ish lyricless rock, and it was one of the standouts on a soundtrack that ranged from headbangingly awesome to appalling, but I confess: I used to put the game disc in for no other reason that to listen to that boss theme, along with the Pyramid Cave and Cannon Core level music, over and over again on the sound test.

Naturally, someone had uploaded the themes themselves onto YouTube (except for the third Cannon Core music, boo), so guess who spent the next hour or so with those on repeat.

I am not old enough to be this nostalgic. And I think the fact that I am nostalgic about video games speaks to just how insufficiently misspent my insufficiently misspent youth was.

---

In slightly less embarrassing news, there's a new Doctor Who-niverse fic archive out there, meant mostly for shippy fic: Children of Time. It's not meant to replace The Splendid Spoon by any means, but it's sorted by pairing rather than era, so if you feel like mainlining one pairing for the remainder of the day, or if you'd rather get your Five/Turlough fix without having to face the ABJECT HORROR of Five/Tegan (I kid! I actually quite like Five/Tegan! 'Twas meant in jest! Don't hit me!), that's where you'd head.

I've an account there, naturally. There's nothing actually on it at the moment, but my shippy* fic on the Spoon will probably end up cross-posted there, because I just like to plaster my work on whatever willing wall I can find.

I also realize that I never posted a link to my Teaspoon account even after I got it, so, um, here it is, if you for some reason want to find it but haven't yet. Yes.

*"Shippy" here meaning "actually properly romantic and/or dealing with a relationship of some sort", not "really probably gen but with a pairing label slapped on it to meet a ficathon/challenge/odd internal sense of obligation".

And on that encouraging note, I am going to finally clear the stuff off my bed and sleep in it for the first time in a week. Goodnight, ladies (and gents), goodnight.
Music:: Oh cheesy VG music, never forsake me again.

I just saw my first Turlough serial yesterday and I suddenly Get It.

I am of the opinion, however, that the only responsible way to deal with Five's harem is for them to have massive orgies all the time. Because Jesus Christ, he's got the most fertile succession of companions ever.

I NO, RITE? Which serial did you watch?

First, ICON LOVE!!! *ahem* sry.

Eee, that was my first Turlough serial, and I really just can't resist a snarky, slightly traumatised Turlough. Hee. Oh, Delgado!Master. He was lovely, though Ainley was my first.

I know, isn't it grand? And considering that the Five era is where the "no touching, no hugging, asexuality for all" mantra got written into the show, the subtext that still manages to get through makes my head spin.

You remember the serial with the Enlightened ones, or whatever? The one where Turlough gets his hands chained above his head in the cabin of a buxom Pirate Captainess? And he's, like, squirming and stuff? And she's menacing him? And has very red lipstick and thigh-high leather boots?

Yeah. Subtext. Otherwise knows as, "Is everyone else seeing the porn that I'm seeing? Because that's porn. Right there. Yes."

A ha ha ha I'd forgotten about Captain Wrack. Enlightenment was quite an entertaining episode, but not, I think, for the reasons it was supposed to be. If I recall correctly, that was the serial in which Tegan wore a dress that gave her actual honest-to-goodness cleavage, and rather impressive cleavage at that.

In the process of carefully keeping the Doctor's hands off everybody, we apparently forgot to check what the rest of the cast was doing. :D

Hee, to add to the pathetic here, as Muppet can attest, my hands-down favourite character from the movie was definitely the white cat. From the squee of 'Kitteeeeeeee!' at just about every appearance to actually attempting to pet the screen, you are not alone in patheticness (is that a word?).

Oh, the explosions. And random British geekery, and Glados. *g*

"Don't watch that all day, sweetie. It'll rot your brain."

I don't know. I'd say that the cat was my favorite, but that would mean neglecting Leeloo. And Ruby Rod. XD

Well, those two probably come in second and third respectively by a couple of nanometres, but come on, you were there. The reaction alone suggests--oh. You mean all it suggests is that I'm a hopeless cat-lover and have been deprived of furry companionship lately? Damn. Well, guess Leeloo nabs number one then.

Oh. Um. I just realized what you meant by 'GLaDOS' (only played Portal once, soz) and then I remember Zoe in The Invasion and, well.

I'll just be over here. In this, erm, bunk-like contraption.

Hey, keep it on the DL, but Muppet is totally working on a fic where Zoe and GLaDOS meet. Just imagine the hotness and lollery that will ensue.

Hmm, need to make a Zoe icon...Well, Sarah Jane is awesome, so you get a Sarah Jane icon (plus, we have the same initials! Sort of...)

::sniffle:: I has a migraine, and I was all excited b/c I found one last pill from my stash, but it's clear that that won't be enough, so I thought, well, that's okay, because I have insurance now.

But I CAN'T FIND THE FUCKING CARD. Thing is, I remember getting it in the mail at home 'cause it was ghetto paper and folding it over and shit, and I'm almsot sure I put it in my wallet, but IT'S NOT THERE!!! Major epic frowny face and sobs may have just issued forth.

Hopefully I'll get it when I drop by home tomorrow... ;_;

That scene in The Invasion is exactly what made me start writing for them. Because Zoe can blow up a receptionist computer with her brain, but what happens when she tries that with a cake-obsessed psychopath prone to stalkerish fixations on its captives?

It also manages to be a fixit. Sort of. I have Rather Epic Plans for this one, I must say. :D

Tell me the portal gun has a 'vibrate' setting! Or is that too obvious?

"Your companion Hitachi loved you... and then you wore out the batteries!"

Apparently, in my mind Epic = Porn.

I shall stop sullying your creative process with my prurient imaginings and wait patiently for the finished product.

Let's just say I've had a few, erm, interesting ideas, but most of them are a bit too X/1999-flavored for me to actually write in good conscience. (Damn you, childhood anime habit, and the irrepairable damage you wrought on my sexuality. :P) Plus, a Who/Portal crossover is already looking at a teeny tiny audience; I'm not sure I want to shrink that audience even further by involving supercomputer sex.

Of course, now that I think about it, writing a "clean" version for [livejournal.com profile] whoniverse1000 and a...different version for elsewhere would solve this problem. They could be two chapters!

I'm not sure I want to shrink that audience even further by involving supercomputer sex.
You think bizarre erotica will shrink your audience?

Darling, let me introduce you to fandom. Fandom, that thing in the corner humping a modem.

Normally, I'd agree with you, but the truth is the Who fandom is one of the most vanilla I've ever seen, with the possible exception of the L&O/CSI fandoms (which have plenty of sex, at least the latter, but little imagination re: the aforesaid sex). I've rarely seen anything bizarre outside of the kinkmeme, and even it's kind of tame. And this is me calling it tame, you realize, so it must be like page after page of missionary position by a normal person's standards

I'm still going to write it, though, because someone somewhere is just craving computerpr0n and I am at heart a filler of needs; the only debate is whether it'll be the main fic or a pornographic "remix" posted seperately, perhaps on an anon account or under filters or something. I favor the latter at the moment.
