I've just realized that, save one, I've posted every day this month. I do not like what this says about me.

Lengthier post, regarding some...interesting RL activities and today's Five-Hour Shakespeare Marathon of Wonderment and Joy, to come later, probably tomorrow since I've got studying to do. In the meanwhile, I have a quick question regarding fic titles...

What do you all think of "The Archimedes Butterfly" as a title for a lengthy, mystery-oriented Doctor Who fic?

The title popped into my head very early this morning, and it sort of fits for what I had in mind. The "butterfly" in the title refers to chaos theory and the butterfly effect, on which some of the content of the fic is based. Granted, it's based more on the pop-culture perception of the butterfly effect at this point - I'm still refining it so as to either explain away the discrepancy or make it more theoretically accurate. The "Archimedes" refers to Archimedes' priciple of levers - "Give me a lever and a place to stand and I will move the world". Both concepts come into play at some point during the fic, so the title seemed appropriate.

So why not use it? I'm wondering if it sounds too pretentious, especially since the fic probably won't end up being nearly good enough to warrant such a poncy moniker. Plus, I'm concerned that the reference to the butterfly effect might be too obvious, and thus give away some of the plot developments and/or later revelations. Also, if I change the fic at all, the title will have to go, and at the moment I'm none too certain of the way the plot's going to progress.

Of course, at this point, the fic exists only as a plot outline which is at this moment in flux. Odds are it won't end up written anyway, especially given that I still haven't progressed beyond the note-taking stage for that Genesis AU. Even if I do start writing it, the title is the least of my worries.

But I figure I should at least start here, so I don't end up spoiling the story in outline form before I write any of it.

So. "The Archimedes Butterfly"? Or does a different title present itself?

ETA: Thanks to all of you for all your help! I guess I'll stick with the title, then, since it seemed to go over well. However, after consideration, I think "Archimedes Butterfly" is going to end up being a Three-Liz-UNIT fic rather than a Three-Jo-Master (which is what I originally had in mind). That ties up the plot I had in mind much more neatly...though it does mean I've yet to think of a scenario for that earlier drabble to take place in. Hmm.
