Happy Belated New Year to everyone! I hope New Years Eve was fun, and best wishes to everyone for the year to come.

I decided not to bother with resolutions this year, since I never keep them, and because Pixxi, Cain, Wolfie and I were way too busy watching Labrynth, eating chocolate and gingerbread cake, and ringing in the New Year on Telemundo for a variety of complicated reasons for me to remember to make resolutions.

Speaking of movies, I finally saw Sweeney Todd today. I shan't spoil it for anyone still hoping to check it out, but I enjoyed it. Some of the choreography lacked the punch and energy I thought it required ("A Little Priest" in particular seemed a bit stiff), and I am disappointed that "The Ballad of Sweeney Todd" and "Ladies and Their Sensibilities" got cut, plus I was a little put off by how young Toby was. However, I think all the leads were quite well-suited to their roles, despite my initial doubts (particularly on Helena Bonham Carter's part), and the "By The Sea" sequence was absolutely inspired. All in all, I had a good time.

The sad thing is, I kind of want to write dark and twisted Sweeney Todd fanfic now, especially dealing with Mrs. Lovett, Lucy, and Toby - oh, especially Toby. But that would make me just like every other squealing Johnny Depp fangirl, barging into what used to be a small fandom because I was drawn in by the movie, wouldn't it. I feel like I have no right to start writing about Todd. After all, I never saw the play in any incarnation - I just listened to the Broadway Cast recording, which isn't the same.

My voice is almost back now, though I'm still coughing a bit. Unfortunately, I've also managed to spread my germs to everyone else in my house, so my mom's just about lost her voice. Bronchitis: The gift that keeps on giving.

Also, while my parents were away, I managed to finish up The Claws of Axos, and while I fully intend to type up an in-depth review later, I just have to say that a switch has been flipped: Doctor Who, especially old-school, might just be my newest shiny fandom obsession. Several years of Mystery Science Theater mean that I'm completely acclimated to 70's special effects, and a guy in a rubber suit playing a monster doesn't faze me even in the slightest. I'm still quite fond of the Third Doctor, who along with Seven strikes me as very similar to Nine in certain ways (more on that later). I find I rather like getting used to all these different Doctors, finding aspects of previous and future incarnations in each Doctor I see.

Also,

I love Roger Delgado's version of the Master. He's a very far cry from who the Master became under RTD and John Simm (not that I didn't love Simm!Master, of course), and I think I might just like this calculating, coldly polite Master even better than the slightly manic, completely-off-his-rocker Master of Utopia/The Sound of Drums/Last of the Time Lords. And, yes, you can still sort of see the Doctor/Master thing between Three and Delgado!Master if you really want to, although theirs is much more of an intellectual homology than any sort of emotional attachment. Honestly, I wasn't looking for it all that hard. I saw the lines that could be interpreted as such, but I didn't go into my usual subtext happy dance. I'm getting a bit sick of Doctor/Master, really. Fandom's kind of killed it for me.

As with Sweeney I'm struck with the urge to write Third Doctor fic, but I'm not sure if one serial is really enough for me to familiarize myself with his voice and personality. I really want to, though. I've got ideas for post-eps lined up and everything.

The Christmas decorations still aren't taken down. I still haven't done much by way of writing. These past few days have been taken up primarily with recovery, relaxation, and eating leftover veggies and cheese from the New Year's party.

Good night to you all.
