- Dammit all, I always do that. I ALWAYS end up falling for the one-episode love interests and then I get all wibbly when they inevitably die. I mean, of course I do. They're always written to be an absolutely perfect boyfriend/girlfriend so we'll feel sad when they die. And I keep on falling for it, because I'm an idiot.
...bye Peter. You really were a bit lovely and I find myself wanting fic* of you and Sarah, and I was very glad you weren't evil or secretly the Trickster, and I was very sad when you died. *sniffle*
*Or porn. I'm not picky. Well, a week is plenty of time to get your sexy on, and it could either be sweet and fluffy or skeevy dubconny mind-control-engagement-ring complicatedness, whatever your pleasure.
- Clyde is a Big Damn Hero and I love him lots. That bit where he walked out into the nothing and faced down the Trickster? I cheered. Why isn't he a companion on That Other Show? Actually, no, I take that back; I don't trust That Other Show to be awesome enough to handle him yet.
- That's another week where Luke and Rani didn't have much to do, though. But Rani had the last two-parter and Luke was awesome in the one before that, so I'll let it slide for now, I suppose.
- Needs Moar Gita. Most things do.
- Can we just keep Ten on SJA forever? Because I did actually for real like him here and I'd forgotten just how lovely that was. I was all afraid that they were going to trot out the trowelfulls of Lonely God Emo, and then the Trickster said "Who are you to talk of loneliness?" and I actually cringed waiting for the manpain parade and it never came. I might have punched the air a bit.
And Ten knew who Rani was even though she wasn't there last time Ten met the kids which means obviously he and Sarah are still in touch and Sarah brags about her kids all the time. And he was ever so enthusiastic about meeting Clyde and Rani and all affectionate towards Lukebecause he is still kind of expecting Sarah to demand child support and I choose to mean that this means all three of them become famous and heroic in the future and Ten is all starstruck.
I also loved that he didn't solve today's problem all on his own - Clyde and K9 and Sarah and Peter had to solve it too with help from him. I was worried that he'd swoop in and steal the show, which would ruin Sarah's whole "I love my life" monologue at the beginning of the season, but everyone still got to do stuff! I was happy.
- Things I was less happy about: the episode dragged a bit in the middle, I thought (yes, we get it, they're stuck in the next second, let's move on) and Sarah's "there's always another man" thing. Okay, I wasn't just "less happy about" that. I hated it. It almost undid my good will towards the Doctor when she started muttering that, because STUPID STUPID SCHOOL REUNION RETCON WHY WON'T YOU DIE. But! I can fanwank it as Sarah thinking of how the Doctor tried to warn her, and through the hypnotism of the ring (which was trying to give her a normal life) she understood him as a familiar, "normal" figure, like a previous boyfriend, rather than "the alien I traveled with". Kind of like Verity under the Chameleon Arch, only different.
This is my fanwank and I'm sticking to it. *nods*
tl;dr This is the best show in the whole franchise. It is wonderful enough to revive my stone-dead New Who squee to the point where I might even bother watching The Waters of Mars. Huzzah, I say!
Must try to get my 600 words in tonight; will try to complete a few memes later. Ta.
