I promise I'll answer comments at some nebulous point in the future.
But I did, first off, want to thank you all for putting up with my endless rambling on.
But. I finally finished my Highlander rewatch, instead of going off what I remembered from watching it ages ago.
And I want to write all the fics about it. All of the fics. Even about the sequels and the sequels were more or less total arsebiscuits. And I even got all teary-eyed at the bit where [SPOILER] died.
Why do I always get into fandoms that no one else cares about, guys; I'm pretty sure if there is a Highlander fandom it's mostly focused on the TV series, and I'm not as interested in Duncan at the moment because the only things I saw him in were Endgame and The Source, and squee outlet somewhere gaaaah. You know, I could have gotten into, like, Game of Thrones or something, but no, that would be just too easy.
Also I think the version I remembered must have been TV-edited, because there was an odd moment when we finally got to the big romance scene and I was all like "Aww, they finally got together HOLY CRAP I DON'T REMEMBER BREASTS IN THIS MOVIE." It's like to be in an Eighties action movie you had to have at least one scene of your silhouetted nipples (see: Terminator).

ahahaha yesss, the gratuitous nipple scene! Braveheart had one of those, and my brother kept to convince me that the gratuitous nipple scene was a vital catharsis. OH AND ALSO you know how I've mentioned The Wire a few times? It is indeed an excellent show, but it's HBO, so every few episodes or so there's a ten-minute long sex scene and I'm like GAH DID NOT NEED TO SEE THAT.And one season finale had, like, 5 sex scenes back to back. Like dude, give a girl a break. I came here for plotty drama, not porn!

That's one of the reasons I'm sort of reluctant to watch the stuff on HBO or Starz - not that I particularly dislike sex scenes, but I'm so used to them being elided or implied that when they're actually in the show they just feel sort of...there. Like they're just there so the show can be on HBO and don't actually have any reason to exist.
Though what I find most amusing about the Gratuitous Eighties Nipple is that it's always in silhouette, even when there's some lighting in the scene. It makes it more tasteful or something, I guess.

It depends on the show? Rome, iirc, was pretty good about having the sex scenes be important for character development and storytelling. The Wire had good reasons, too, but then the scenes go on for a few minutes too long. And the Season 2 (3?) finale was four or five trysts intercut. It went on for like twenty minutes. Sooo awkwaaaaard. I don't think it was necessary for character development that I know precisely what Lt. Daniels' preferred rhythm is. And of course I'm watching the series with my brother, so it's super awkward.
The silhouette thing is probably because of ratings regulations? Like, the ~shadow of a nipple is easy R territory, but a full 3D view would be NC-17.
