There's like five writing memes going around and I would like to do them!

Two pinched from[personal profile] spacehussy:

Post the first sentence (or three) from every WIP you're currently working on, even if it's very short. Then invite people to ask questions about your WIPs. With any luck, you'll get talking about writing, and the motivation to take that WIP one step closer to completion will appear as if by magic!

A ha ha ha like anything will make me finish stuff but it's worth a shot.

WIPs! Lots of them! In Doctor Who, Transformers Animated, Transformers Prime, and Homestuck fandoms, plus an origfic! )

And the other meme: If there was a kinky scenario you could request me to write, what would it be? Please be as specific as possible reasonably specific without going onto pagelong kinkmeme-prompt lengths.

No promises, but, hey. I always like to see what people would like for me to write. Or like to see written.

Not that I don't have bajillions of prompts to write already. Um.

The other meme tomorrow, maybe, as it is quite late and I am tired.
stunt_muppet: (Jo's in prison; woes)
Very, very slowly. I wrote a whole 630 words this week! And most of it was on the Ficlet Project fic! Hooray!

Miscellaneous things:

1. SARAH JANE ADVENTURES OMG. Maybe wanting something really really hard does make it happen after all!

Cut for spoilers from the video. )

So the upshot of all that is basically SQUEE. I am so glad this series is still going. So glad.

Also I've been informed that there is, in fact, a Three/Jo/Iris Wildthyme audio out there somewhere. It is now my objective to make this part of my life.

2. Speaking of squee, someone on the anonmeme mentioned my fic! \o/ They mentioned it by name and everything, which sort of implies that enough people have heard of it to know what the anon was referring to when then mention it - or that they knew to seek it out when they were watching a specific serial.

I know this'll probably make me sound like extremely eager for attention, but it made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Because I know you're supposed to write for yourself, but I wouldn't write if I didn't want people to read and enjoy these stories, if I didn't want to share them and send them out into the world. And the thought enough people like my little fic for it to get referenced in a place where nobody has any expectation of me seeing it just makes all the writers' block worth it.

< /sentimentality>

3. In the midst of Trying To Write, I've been seriously plotting out which of the Big Huge Crazy AUs I want to write first, which ones I think I could finish realistically, etc. Because I do want to write them instead of just having them float around in my headspace. And so I've been trying to hash out a plot for the more nebulous Holy War AU (which has fewer definite plot points) in the hopes of writing it down one of these days.

Cut for writing blather. )

So, yeah. Just an idea I've been tossing around. Plus, that gives me a venue to write some of the popular pairings in a new light - because I kind of feel obligated to write Sunstreaker/Sideswipe or Thundercracker/Skywarp, but I've never really felt that inspired to, if that makes any sense? And in this AU context I could do something new with them.

I need to make myself a schedule for which of these BHCAU I want to write first, so that I can assiduously ignore it and start working on something totally different instead.

BUT FIRST. Ficlet project. And then Springkink fic.

4. So I wrote about 140 words of "teaser" for the Holy War AU in freewrite. I decided to put it here.

142 words, to be precise. )
I feel like I should post a bit of the Ficlet Project fic, because I've got over 500 words of it, but idk. That feels like it should be a surprise.

5. Have finally gotten hold of a scanner! We'll see if it'll actually scan my drawings instead of refusing to see them if they're not inked, because I hate inking. I'm looking forward to posting clean versions of some of my sketches. Might give me some drive to draw again.

6. It's not 1 in the morning, wow. I should probably go before it is.
stunt_muppet: (nom nom nom)
Not the things I intended to accomplish, possibly, but I'll take what I can get.

Things I did yesterday:

1. Talked to Biology teacher about the classes I've missed; started setting up schedule for the long-term presentation so I won't fall behind. Bio professor was, thankfully, very understanding.

2. Walked outside in the sun (oh thank goodness, I've missed you, sun), generally felt a bit better about life and Impending Graduation and all, and decided to treat myself to dinner at a restaurant on Main Street I'd never been to. This ended up being a good decision, because they had tomatoes and mozzarella with basil and olive oil, which is possibly one of my favorite foods ever. And it's actually partially good for me! I love it when I don't have to feel guilty about eating something.

Also had what, at the time, seemed like the ingenious idea of taking the leftover bread that they give you before your meal home in a to-go box, because otherwise it's just going to get thrown away and if I'm buying dinner I may as well also get breakfast the next morning.

3. Finished Saya no Uta once I got back to my dorm that night. Don't laugh! Ticking off something on the long list of Media I Would Like To Finish is a big deal for me. Anyway, even though I'm not as easily scared as I used to be, there were times while watching Saya no Uta that I just had to close the window and go look at pictures of kittens or something because I was so creeped out by it. It's unsettling the whole way through. And the Just...woah. See, that's how you do Lovecraftian-esque.

Also the soundtrack. The creepy, creepy soundtrack. Eeeeh.

4. Watched the most recent Doctor Who Season 5 trailer! I grow ever more excited about Season 5, even if New Who's persistent problem with sound mixing is in full evidence in the trailer. Very minor spoilers for the content of the trailer. )

5. Cleaned the bathroom. I just feel much better about the world when the bathroom is scrubbed down, don't you?

6. Wrote 400 more words of my [ profile] springkink  fic! I haven't written that much in ages. I am not sure if I should post it like I planned to do with all my other snippets because I might actually finish this thing! I've even gotten to the maintenance that the prompt requested and I am feeling much less stressed about my Optimus voice. Write Or Die: A lifesaver. I should use it for my essay. In fact I will do that today.

But I am going to post the snippet anyway, because it makes me feel good about myself:

430-ish words, with a bit of the last snippet included for context )

Speaking of today, I should shower and make myself presentable so I actually can get something done today. Cheerio

I had kind of a productive day today - got some laundry done, cleaned a bit, went out for a walk in the 55-degree weather (hooray!) - so of course I spent much of the evening playing video games and otherwise doing nothing. That said, Skies of Arcadia remains fun. I remembered that one of the reasons I loved it so much back when I first got it was that it has a completely canonical (albeit nonromantic) OT3some at the core of the character lineup - there's ambiguous romantic tension between the two female characters and the leading man, but there's no competition or jealousy, and Childhood Friend is really quite femslashy with Mysterious Girl, and it's happy and affectionate and one of my favorite kinds of OT3 team relationships and it makes the game so much more fun.

But! I did try to do a bit of writing when I've been locked for the past couple of days. Fragments, mostly, but I tried doing that ficcing-to-music thing, where you set your iPod on shuffle and only write for however long the song lasts. Unfortunately I am so blocked I could only do eight songs, and most of the resulting fics are random fragments of disconnected story instead of anything resembling fic. So. Um. Here they are. I've linked to the YouTube posting of the song because uploading my music is a bear on this computer and inevitably results in skippy mp3s and frustration. Let me know if you want me to upload something for you.

"Winds of Sand" - Atlas Plug (4:00)

Original Fiction, 121 words )

"Sandstorm" - Darude (3:49)

Original Fiction, 102 words, was originally going to be a ficlet about Sari post-series but it kind of got lost. )

"Diamond Dogs" - Beck (4:34)

Original Fiction, 134 words, some overtones of BDSM )

"Back in Black" - Vitamin String Quartet (4:31)

Transformers Animated, sometime in Season 1; Sari, Optimus Prime, Bumblebee and Bulkhead; 104 words )

"Kernkraft 400" - Zombie Nation (6:06) (video goes to a different mix because there wasn't a video of the six-minute mix)

Original Fiction, 264 words )

"Topaz" - The B-52s (4:21)

Original Fiction, 146 words )

"Blue Dress" - Depeche Mode (5:42) (again, video is different than the mix I used because there isn't a video of the version I used; YouTube is cranky like that)

Transformers Animated, post-series; Optimus Prime, Blackarachnia; 176 words )

"Warbots" - Melora Creager (3:32)

Doctor Who, during Journey's End; Jo Grant; 67 words )

Things I have discovered tonight: I have completely forgotten how to write romance of any stripe - basic emotion, holding, kissing, intimacy, sex, anything. And I'm supposed to write it for that one ficathon I claimed, too. Blaaah.

And now I should go to bed so I can get some work done tomorrow.

Especially since this weekend has been really a bit crappy thus far. So has this week. :(

Lengthy and squeeish and very occasionally a bit meta thoughts on TFA Season 2, by episode:

In which there are a lot of EEEEs and OMGs and I LOVE YOU GUYSs. )

On that note, oh I am so very excited for Season 3.

And, so I am not a complete slacker, a tiny little bit of writing on that Blitzwing fic I nattered about earlier. I am still very unsteady writing in this universe, but managing to work on this fic at all rather than staring blankly at the paper was something of an improvement, so I thought I'd put it up here as a teaser or something.

a mere 243 words and no spoilers )

An additional point: I watched M play the end of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 tonight, and...well, without spoiling anything, I'll just say that those were some of the more harrowing cutsenes I've ever seen in a video game. I think that was the only time I've literally been on the edge of my seat and I wasn't even playing.

It's good to know it's earned that good reputation, at least.

Also, Lance Henriksen does a voice in it. The guy's everywhere.

I grow tired, so my ramblings about epic multiversal crossover fic will just have to wait for the morning. Or, um, possibly the evening, after I spend the morning and afternoon legitimately working. Yes.

All the homework I have to do today is either long-term projects or watching a film.

So, naturally, I spent the day having a freewrite instead. Typical.

Oh, and at one point I tried to post a meme and it didn't work because LJ hates me. And I tried setting up the antennae thing that promises to give me cell reception and that didn't work either. Pleh.

So in order to feel like I accomplished something, the results of said freewrite go up here. It makes me feel like I'm at least treading water during this long fic drought.

I am tempted to apologize for the content but I won't because "forced to share a bed" is very high on my list of favorite horrible guilty-pleasure fic cliches.

Oh and it's Three/Brigadier, except the / is probably invalid as they don't actually do anything. )

There is one additional line that does not fit in with the rest of the bit, or with anything else for that matter.

"I mean, look at me! I'm dancing, for Christ's sake. I'm shaking things I didn't even know I had."

I should go and do some work now or something.

Because writing helps me stay awake, but does not help me so far as writing things that could, you know, go anywhere, a snippet:

Doctor Who, Liz/Brigadier (sort of), PG-13, 275 words )

I'm trying to get into the habit of a) freewriting and b) writing something every day, even if it's not something I want to cross-post anywhere. I haven't written anything since November and I'd like to change that, but just stewing at the computer isn't going to help.

I'm not sure if I'll continue to put the results up here; this one's mostly just going up so I don't have to create a whole separate Word Document for it. Read it if you want, but bear in mind that it's all unedited and doesn't represent my best work.

Total time: 3 hours

Total words: 888 (!!!)

Original Fiction, ~600 words )

Doctor Who, Liz/Brig, ~300 words )

First off, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, [personal profile] silly_cleo!!! I hope the coming year is wonderful.

You remember that writing meme I did a while earlier, with the fics written in the time it takes for one song to play? As a way of warming up for more serious/extensive writing, I did a few rounds of those on vacation. There are fourteen in total; I figured I'd post them up here.

The rules, in case you needed a reminder:

1. Put your iPod or other mp3 player on Shuffle
2. Pick the first five/seven/ten songs that come up.
3. Write a short fic inspired by each of those songs. You may only write for the duration of the song - if the song lasts three minutes, you only write for three minutes. No cheating!*

*I still cheated. Mostly because I skipped any song where I didn’t know the language, because it was apparently Bollywood Day off in Shuffle-land.

1. "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen/We Three Kings" - The Barenaked Ladies & Sarah McLachlan (3:31)

2. "Amazonic" - Maksim (3:20; not uploaded because iTunes is having issues with finding the file)

3. "Arcus" - Amethystium (5:06)

4. “Never Let Me Down Again” – Tina Root (Depeche Mode cover) (4:25)

5. "Club Nowhere" - Blue Man Group (4:50)

6. "They" - Jem (3:16)

7. “You Keep Me Hanging On” – Kim Wilde (4:15)

8. "Tequila Mockingbird" - Vanessa-Mae (3:29)

9. "Song 2" - Blur (2:01)

10. "Truth Be Known" - Atlas Plug (4:35)

11. "Scorchio" - Bond (3:31)

12. "Hijo de la Luna" - Sarah Brightman (4:27)

13. "To The Pirates' Cave!" - Pirates of the Caribbean Soundtrack (3:30)

14. "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" - Bono (from the Across the Universe soundtrack) (4:23)

To bed.

Also, Middleman? Is AWESOME. If you're not watching it, please begin doing so.

In an effort to kick-start Ye Olde Writerbrain, I thought I'd do a few rounds of the Ficcing to Music meme.

Instructions: 1. Put your iPod or other mp3 player on Shuffle
2. Pick the first five/seven/ten songs that come up.
3. Write a short fic inspired by each of those songs. You may only write for the duration of the song - if the song lasts three minutes, you only write for three minutes. No cheating!*

*I cheated. The hell I was going to stop mid-sentence.

I'll probably do another one of these, possibly with ten songs, and definitely with different fandoms, since I realize I pretty much fell back on my 'safe' fandoms here. But for now, here's Round One:

[ETA] Also, I'll be happy to upload any song you want to hear; just give me a poke.

1.“Walk on the Ocean” – Toad the Wet Sprocket (3 min)

2. “Salsa No. V” – Klazz Brothers and Cuba Percussion (5 min 11 seconds)
3. “Gypsy Rhapsody” – Bond (3 min 34 sec)
4. “A Day Without Rain” – Enya (2 min 37 sec)

ETA: Now with Spoiler-blocking White Space!
5. “Up to the Roof” – Blue Man Group (3 min 51 sec)

Goodness, it's been ages since I've written FFX fic. I kind of miss it. And hey, lookit that, I went and wrote post-Journey's End fic, which I was pretty dead-set on not doing.

Um. I guess that's progress? Like I said, I'll probably do another one tomorrow.
ETA: Journey's End spoilers in the comments.
